This UK filming location was rumoured in the past and now it's been confirmed! Read on to find out where it is as well as details on a specific scene that's set to be shot in the city...
The Liverpool Daily Post
have confirmed that
Captain America: The First Avenger
will film in the UK city this Autumn. According to the site, the Liverpool Film Office have confirmed that the Marvel Studios blockbuster is on it's way while Bafta and Emmy-award winning producer Colin McKeown, the driving force behind the city’s LA Productions, had this to say about the production.
"I've known about it for some time because everybody talks. The last Hollywood flick that the city was heavily involved in was 51st State – but this promises to be five times what that was. From what I understand there is going to be an awful lot of community involvement."
"We are a city full of filming expertise and talent and it would be a crying shame if that wasn’t tapped in to. I think Marvel will be really pleased at what the city can offer and I’m sure this film will really bolster our film-making credentials."
However, the really interesting part from their interview with McKeown is that the WWII based movie will possibly feature a submarine as well as a specific location as to where it'll be:
"It’s been mentioned that they might be using a submarine in the Albert Dock, it all sounds really good."
Could this have anything to do with the well known scene from Ed Brubaker's run on the Captain America comic book where the Russians find Bucky's body in the ocean and bring him aboard their submarine!? Probably not, but who knows! If you're from Liverpool, be sure to get in touch by clicking on the "Contact Me" link at the top left hand side of this page to let us know here at CBM whether you manage to spot anything!

I like the news, but I think the Thor production did a better job of holding off information and leaving us on pins and needles.

Thanks guys! :) I'm still waiting to hear back from several people about both when they'll be filming in Caerwent as well as other UK locations like London so I'll be sure to let you lot know how it works out!
And as I said in my
10 Things I Want To See In
Captain America: The First Avenger
article...
Picture this: The credits roll and as is now standard with Marvel Studios’ movies, we get an after credits scene. The year is 1945 and we see a Russian submarine moving through the same icy waters that Captain America fell into. The sub comes across a body which they bring inside only to see it’s not Cap…it’s a one armed Bucky! The scene ends with the same lines (in Russian with subtitles) from Ed Brubaker’s
Captain America #8
as they loom over his unconscious body:
“It’s not Captain America…What is this Karpov?”
“It is hope, my friend…for the future…”
And fade to black! If
The First Avenger
is going to have modern day bookends there really is no need to use this scene up with more hints at
The Avengers
. The scenario I’ve written above, as seen in the comic books, is the perfect way for them to leave the door open for the return of Bucky even if that wasn’t until much later in the franchise. Bucky has become such a popular character with fans, Marvel didn’t hesitate in keeping him as Captain America despite Steve Rogers’ return to the Marvel Universe. It makes perfect sense for them to adapt the Winter Soldier storyline. From a storytelling point of view, an adaptation of this arc would lead to some great moments on the big screen and it could easily be tweaked in order to make a live action translation easier to understand. And I’m not sure about you, but I’d love to see more than just one movie focusing on Cap’s WWII adventures - bringing back Bucky along with a handful of flashbacks would be the perfect opportunity!

Hey Josh!
Great find once again!
How great would that be if we got the Bucky/Winter Soldier scenario out of the end of CA. I got back into collecting Captain America after years away, with the Brubaker/Epting run. It was incredibly epic and it would be equally as epic onscreen.

-
7/30/2010, 2:57 PM
they could actually do Namor's backstory in the 10 min short movies,
like the story and explain a "baby was born, hybrid, best of both worlds" and now show him until 20 minutes cap movie and wwii scenes

The sub could be the 'U-Boat experience' in Birkenhead. It was a German WW2 U-boat that was shot to shit and sunk by the RAF in the 40's.

Thanks again for your comments guys! Some great suggestions here - especially those regarding Namor! That would have never crossed my mind but makes perfect sense!
Roscoe182:
I'm not sure to be honest! If I was able to find out some definite filming locations with specific dates and times I most definitely would! So, you're from Liverpool then?
EvilTwin:
Words cannot describe how much I'd love to see that Winter Soldier scene make it into the movie! It would be truly epic and a great point for the present day Cap movies to pick up from!
tea:
Lol, now that is some great out of the box thinking bud! :P I'd love to see a scene like that...a submarine lends itself to many an epic set piece when you think about it!
Intruder:
Believe me, I'd love to know as well! Needless to say, if I ever heard anything, it would be posted on CBM quicker than it takes to do a Google search of "Blake Lively Cleavage"! ;D

If they're really going to ground these characters in reality...is Namor just going to be some dude who can hold his breath under water really long, for like 3 minutes? Is that his super power?
blinkuldhc
-

blinkuldhc@ Who said they are grounding them in reality?? :)
DDD@ LMAO :)

-
7/30/2010, 4:35 PM
blinkuldhc@ they can ground things in reality but they don't
necessarily mean they can't be way out ideas!
Just look what Branagh has done with Thor!
That looks to me to be very reality-based yet
believably way way out there!
Namor is a mutant! It has been well-established in
the movies and TV that mutants can realistically have
almost any ability!

I certainly hope you guys are right. While I do like that Marvel Studios has been leaning on depicting the characters and worlds as tech-based (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) and/or science-based (Thor, The Incredible Hulk), I do want them to keep some of the imagination of the comics.
Like they say, comic books are the modern version of Greek mythology, and the superheroes are the Greek gods. While I don't want it to be over-the-top like Superman changing the past by rotating the Earth backwards, I don't want it to be too grounded like Nolan's Batman movies, either.
I LOVE the Nolan Batman movies, but to me, they're more straightforward crime/caper/thriller/dramas than they are comic book movies. Nolan has even gone on record as saying he wants everything to be explainable and relate-able to the real world. I don't want that! I want to see modern day mythology.
That means I want to see the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 using mystical powers. I want to see Namor as a mutant. I don't want a scientific explanation for Thor.
Let the audience suspend disbelief, rather than hammer the audience with believable elements. Star Wars is the perfect example of having 100's or 1000's of elements that are just impossible, but as a whole, you buy into the movie. I want to see the same thing with the Avengers and the other Marvel films.

@blinkuldhc, I wouldn't worry too much. we know for a fact that we're gonna get the cosmic cube and the infinity gauntlet. neither of which could be explained scientifically.
and its also been hinted at that we're gonna see a certain doctors mystical eye.

Well Im from Liverpool and I'll tell you know Albert Dock has been very much contemporized over the year. that picture doesn’t show you that if they used the center piece you’d be able to see the shop fronts and if they use the actual river you facing either the sand logged side or the Wirral side where you can see all the oil boats. So I have my doubts they will put a Sub in there.
People film stuff around this city all the time. I live on Princes dock which is two minuets away from albert dock and even know at half nine on a Sunday morning there’s a small crew filming two people in what looks like WW” attire (I wouldn’t get excited though they don’t have any Hollywood esk film equipment)
And P.S some of Sherlock Homes and some of one of the Harry Potter Films were filmed here

Im getting confused is joshw copying what loundon is commenting??
Like i said i live near cammel laird ship yards, id expect them to film there as all the old building are like massive hangars, plenty of space for anything to happen really as its right on the river (google it and you'll see what i mean)....lets not get Wirral confused with Liverpool...2 totally different places just a river apart :D
Iv also found out that theyre filming in Liverpools Georgian quarter, someone i know lives there so as soon as she gets the letter saying they start filming shes gonna let me know!!ooooooh exciting stuff.....also im appplying for an extra role for it, hope i get called up!!!
