IGN TV report that the ABC portion of the 'Television Critics Association' saw the networks president Paul Lee reveal that a Marvel comic book character will be turning up in the next season of Castle, starting actor Nathan Fillion.

"You know, I don't know if I'm allowed to say it, but we've got a really cool storyline with a Marvel character that appears on Castle this year. If you guys haven't seen the finale for Castle from this past season, it's extraordinary. [Castle creator] Andrew Marlow is really hitting his stride. And that was an underrated show that really found its momentum. And there's one episode, and I'm probably giving away a secret and I shouldn't because Andrew is going to kill me, with a Marvel superhero character. Andrew is so smart. He's always thinking ahead. He's got an amazing Halloween episode, so I think I give Andrew all the credit – although the Marvel guys are superb."

Of course, Castle is a show set firmly in the "real" world, so I doubt we'll be seeing the Hulk or Captain America paying a visit. While it's most likely that this appearance will be a regular person in a fancy dress costume, it IS possible it could be an actual comic book character. With ABC developing A.K.A. Jessica Jones, might we see the private detective make a cameo appearance? I certainly wouldn't rule it out! Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

the1egend1ives - 8/7/2011, 11:10 AM
Wait.... are they talking about an ACTUAL Marvel superhero? Suggesting in a way that Castle takes place in the Marvel Cinematic UNIVERSE?
Rhys - 8/7/2011, 11:14 AM
Might have to watch my very first episode of this...
STYGR8dotCOM - 8/7/2011, 11:15 AM

Braveheart - 8/7/2011, 11:24 AM
Fillion was quite funny and cool in Super, which was a brilliant and overlooked film!!!
jjmeylar - 8/7/2011, 11:32 AM
I wish that they'd have Jessica Jones make an appearance, but it's probably just something like Castle dressed as Cap or something.
FrankGarret - 8/7/2011, 11:33 AM
Jessica Jones as a backdoor pilot, or Frank Castle.
AlanWarlock - 8/7/2011, 11:33 AM
Stan Lee as Willie Lumpkin.
SCOURGE - 8/7/2011, 11:35 AM
Ant Man?
Lokibegoodstick - 8/7/2011, 11:41 AM
Cool news! Love that show, started just for Nathan, but would watch it even without him, cause its that good, and I watch very little Tv.
Lokibegoodstick - 8/7/2011, 11:42 AM
Oh and yah it could be just a "costume" cameo I suppose as Nathan dressed as a "space-cowboy" once, hint-hint ;]
REDSTORM - 8/7/2011, 11:49 AM
Nick Fury is going to try to recruit him like the scary ghost.
TheIronHulk - 8/7/2011, 12:04 PM
cool
Chewtoy - 8/7/2011, 12:15 PM
If it's the Halloween episode I would not be surprised in the least to see Fillion dressed as Ant-Man. They revelled in in-jokes last Halloween, with nearly every cast member dressed as a former role each actor had played in a previous project, including Fillion in full Firefly/Serenity garb.

Or it could be an actual Marvel character... It wouldn't be the first time characters from wildly different kinds of shows have crossed over. I could easily see Agent Coulsin make an appearance... I think I even recall an episode of Castle that had a government agent that never identified what agency he worked for.

Foggy Nelson?
mpk1988 - 8/7/2011, 12:19 PM

Fantine - 8/7/2011, 12:23 PM
I right away thought Punisher.
HannibalKing - 8/7/2011, 12:40 PM
Won't make me watch the show. Even the wife doesn't watch it, and that's saying something.
Lokibegoodstick - 8/7/2011, 12:41 PM
@Chewtoy I guess I've only seen one Halloween special do you remember the others? Could be right about Coulsin and unknown agency, that would be soooo cool.

@ mpk1988 that would also be cool!!
ComicBookGoth - 8/7/2011, 12:53 PM
they are in New York

that'd be a site to see.

castle and castle
cartman87 - 8/7/2011, 1:09 PM
i Think Jessica Jones
ScionStorm - 8/7/2011, 1:38 PM
Wait, is Castle taking place in the Marvel Universe now?
TheDemonHunter - 8/7/2011, 1:45 PM
Agent Coulson. Seems like a no brainer to me.
Mr2099 - 8/7/2011, 1:50 PM
Oh I can see it now... while on the case of massacre of gangsters rapists and serial killers, Castle and the gang follow the clues and find the most likely, yet most shocking suspect: Rick Castle's long lost Marine brother Franklin, who has become known as the Punisher!!! Wishing to prove his innocence in this case and bring the REAL perp to justice (his style of course) Franklin and Rick must set aside their family issues and find the gangster killer before it causes a full scale gang war.

And THAT is why I am a writer.
DarthTesla - 8/7/2011, 1:50 PM
Agent Coulson would be flippin' awesome.

Don't really see the Dread Dormammu showing up to give Castle problems.
Brandonwlobo - 8/7/2011, 2:21 PM
It may just be him in an Ant Man costume for Halloween, just to screw with the fanboys.
JohnTom88 - 8/7/2011, 2:22 PM
Dr Doom!
DarthTesla - 8/7/2011, 3:02 PM
@Brandonwlobo: That would actually be hilarious.
Chewtoy - 8/7/2011, 3:07 PM
@Lokibegoodstick: Looking over the episode list, it seems they've only done 1 Halloween themed episode so far. The first season began as a mid-season replacement, premiering in the Spring, the second season featured the Halloween episode, and then the third season had a regular episode Halloween week.

It was last November where Lyle Lovett played a Man in Black in the investigation of the mysterious death of an astrophysicist. He showed up unexpectedly, never identified which agency he worked for, but had a lot of government pull and access/knowledge of some pretty advanced tech. They could suggest in hindsight that he was a SHIELD agent as easily as MIB, or simply play the same kind of thing with Agent Coulson.

And for people who think it's outlandish to tie Castle to the Marvel Universe, I always go back to Richard Belzer's character Det. Munch, who has been a part of or guest starred on just about every show imaginable, from gritty cop shows like Homicide, Law & Order, and The Wire, to stuff like The X-files and Arrested Development.

So yes, there are episodes that link the gritty realism of The Wire to the X-file's Flukeman, putting them all in the same reality if you care to be picky about continuity.
Jimdlux - 8/7/2011, 3:31 PM
Not much of a hit if it canceled...
Chewtoy - 8/7/2011, 4:19 PM
@Jimdlux:

Are you seriously trying to start a rumor that the show was somehow cancelled inbetween seasons under an article where the President of ABC Network itself is talking about how excited he is with this upcoming season and the Marvel cameo it contains?

Lokibegoodstick - 8/7/2011, 4:38 PM
@Chewtoy Thanks, I see what you meant, now that I think about it I've never seen the Halloween Episode all the way through just the beginning where he puts on the old brown coat and boots. Haven't seen the episode with Lyle Lovett either, guess I need to watch more.
CarlXVIGarfield - 8/7/2011, 9:36 PM
Howard The Duck, obviously!
Bread - 8/7/2011, 10:02 PM
punisher would be sick!

and it makes sense since Marvel just got the rights back
bgharcourt - 8/8/2011, 12:47 AM
@CarlXVIGarfield: that would be awesome!!!!!!
Lokibegoodstick - 8/8/2011, 12:54 AM
@ mr2099 one problem with your plot[it is a good one by the way] Castles real, birth name is.....Richard Alexander Rodgers that's Rodgers soooo you could be right but with Cap being his long lost uncle? naw probable not, still.....
shiftysharp - 8/8/2011, 4:26 AM
cousin frank pre punisher allowing the punisher TV series to be led into.........maybe
JackBauer - 8/8/2011, 4:41 AM
@Chewtoy -I was going to bring up the Belzer connection. That X-Files episode he was in was great and had a bit of realism to it since it only dealt with the people involved in the conspiracy, no monsters or aliens. They could do the same thing here.

They could have Agent Coulson or Frank Castle show up and it never has to be mentioned again.
Jefferys - 8/8/2011, 5:35 AM
That's awesome! Who they brining in!?
