Michael Fassbender On Magneto's Bad Guy Status; Still Unsure Of Matthew Vaughn's Return!

Talking to MTV Splash Page, the actor has revealed that despite the ending of X-Men: First Class, he still doesn't view Magneto as a full on villain. "I don't think he's a bad guy. I think he's all right, isn't he? Human beings having been doing some bad shit to him."

In fact, it sounds like he's more interested in exploring the origin story of Charles Xavier (played by James McAvoy) in the sequel after a movie where the spotlight remained almost entirely on him. "I'm very interested to see where we pick up with Charles Xavier, to be honest. In the film we just did, 'First Class,' we got to see how Magneto becomes Magneto, how he leaves Erik behind and takes on the persona of Magneto. We've yet to see how Charles develops into Professor X. I think that's going to be interesting to take a look at."

"I bumped into James literally just before I came over to the States to do all this press, and we're both pretty keen to sit down with [the director] Matthew [Vaughn]," he added. "Hopefully Matthew's going to be interested in doing the next one, if that's the case, and really getting in there at the ground level with the writer and get some of our ideas in there."

"I really hope they introduce Cable. He is one of the few good X-Men left to explore, and his arrival via time-travel could explain why there are continuity issues. This way they could continue with more movies that retcon all the iconic characters and still have it makes sense"

Froggy knows.

Loved XFC, but I want BETTER COSTUMES!!!

I want a real "Metal" look for Magneto.

I love the fact that he really seems to love the character and the story!

I have a question . Since Gerald Butler is doing cameos in the next 300 will you be doing the same ? Also froggy i do agree with you 95% but I do have to say i would like to see other cast members in the next movie. Honestly if you look at it when it comes to Xmen for some reason people always focus the story line to just magento, prof x ,logan, jean ,angel ,beast and cyclopse . There is nothing wrong with those characters it just would be nice for them to expand the basic story line to more characters like iceman, storm ,shadow cat, Colossus Boom-Boo Dazzler ,Sunspot and Hope Summers . They barly went to any back story at all in the first movie . And honestly i hate the ending of first class because it didnt even show the epic fight between Magneto and prof x against Shadow king. Or any refrence to the scrulls . I just hope in the next movie the go bigger with the story itself and add a new twist to it instead of just focusing on Magento and Prof x

@Zigggggy, I think McKellen worked well for the original series because it was more about the younger mutants, now we can see what Professor X and Magneto were like in there prime.

and Froggy, that Cable idea is gold.

Without Vaughan not sure who else can be put into the director role, all except one but most fans hate him and not sure why, but as movies goes, singer will be the right guy or even a producer/writer.

Or this is what fox should do, x4 with singer and first class with another director, very, very simple. Xmen universe has so many stories to tell that they can do both.

@zigggggggy (so many g's) I really liked the 'oh hes just a cute old man, OH SHIT HES KILLING ME WITH MY OWN BLOOD' type of idea, who do you have in mind for a fit older guy? Just wondering.

why does every actor feel like they have a right to "get in" at ground level to develop the character...Actor...not writer
marvel72 - 11/18/2011, 12:56 PM
x-men first class 2,will be the same group of villains led by magneto instead of shaw.

it needs new characters because the mutants it does feature are piss poor to say the least.

heroes

-cyclops
-marvel girl
-cable

villains any of these,we don't need magneto all the time.

-sentinels
-mr.sinister & the marauders
-apocalypse & horsemen

I loved X-Men First Class. Regret not seeing it in theatres. I was ticked when I learned that it wasn't the real First Class from the comics. Still a good film. Can't wait for the next one. I want to see Scott Summers and Jean Grey introduced. I want more from Azazel, Riptide and of course Magneto. Strangely enough, I kinda miss Sebastian Shaw as a villain. He was kind a cool, but once Erik put on the helmet... it was over. That was easily his most defining moment ever captured on film.

From what I have seen of Fassbender he is an awesome actor -- I especially enjoyed his portrayal of Magneto, the raw intensity was fitting IMO. I hope to see more of him in the future.

I want Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth!!! He was great in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'.
Ryguy88 - 11/18/2011, 8:33 PM
Oh Marvel72, you kill me! You had already made up your mind that you weren't going to like this movie a year before it was released so why would your opinion about it after the fact have any weight?

Ziggy - "they could have cast a fit, imposing old guy though. I would have loved to see Rutger Hauer in the Role."

Ian done well with material he was given but when we heard rumours of X1 I always thought Rutger should have got the role of Magneto.
