Guillermo Del Toro was Just a Hammer's Throw Away from Directing Thor!

The 'Hellboy' and 'The Hobbit' director has told MTV that he was approached by Marvel to direct the Thunder God's big screen outing...
Del Toro told MTV's Splash Page, They approached me for ‘Thor'. And for a long time we talked about that, because the mythology and the images were very attractive to me. This was before ‘Hellboy II’”

He also went on to say why he was so attracted to the charatcer in the first place, “I’m a fan of Jack Kirby and the power he has, and I’m a fan of the original mythology," explained Del Toro. “So I thought we could go back to the original mythology a lot. I love Loki, I think he’s a great figure.”

So, would Del Toro have been a better choice than Kenneth Branagh? I dont think so, but what do you guys think?

Ehhh. Definitely wouldn't have been a bad movie if he directed it. But he's pretty busy he wouldn't have had the time for it in the first place and Kenneth Branagh seems to know what he's doing.

Not necessarily the better choice but visually you know to expect greatness. This one is tuff.

he would have been good, but i have faith in branagh

I'd rather have him doing The Hobbit. Thor will be just fine with Branagh

i think del toro would have made Thor too mystical making it then too hard for him to fit in in the avengers-i think brannagh will find a good balance!

I agree with joshw24, I love Del Toro but I think it would have, from a stylistic point, to hard to integrate del toro's Thor into the main stream. Don't get me wrong it might've been a great movie, but he would have had to water down his directoral style to make it work which would have been bad for del toro as an artist and thor as a property. I'm extremely happy with him working on the hobbit and Branagh working on thor.

I go with branagh but if they let go of him then del toro would be fine.

Branagh will be fine. Del Toro has enough on his plate and maybe he's a little too dark for Marvel anyways.

I also read in "Wired" Magazine that he might be doing a Dr. Strange movie as well as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Frankenstein.

LOL, I remember when everyone on here was so sketched out about Brannagh directing this!!

I'm happy with the current director, however, i don't think Del Torro would have failed, it just would've been different.
