SPOILER Discussion/Poll: The AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 Finale SPOILER Discussion/Poll: The AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 Finale

Last night's extended season 2 finale of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D, "S.O.S", saw Coulson and co. go to war with the Inhumans. It was an action-packed, funny, & pretty bonkers two hours of television, & we want to know what you thought of the betrayal, redemption, death and dismemberment on display...

At this point we all expect any season finale to be eventful, but I'm not sure any of us were quite prepared for what Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. had in store for us last night. Things kicked off with Skye VS. May, and from there the action barely let up for a second. Jaiying revealed her true colors when she murdered Raina in front of her daughter. Did the clairvoyant Inhuman sacrifice herself for the greater good here? She certainly seemed to be goading Jaiying into a death by cop situation. We know actress Ruth Negga has signed on to play Tulip in AMC's Preacher, but something tells me it won't be the last we see of Raina.

Jaiying's plan to finish S.H.I.E.L.D. extended to her unleashing Cal on the unsuspecting Agents aboard the aircraft carrier, and we finally got to see Mr. Hyde in all his... glory? I was expecting more than some extra muscles and a slightly exaggerated forehead myself, but aside from his appearance there's no doubt the scenes shared by Kyle MacLachlan and Clark Gregg made for compelling viewing. Cal agrees to help Coulson save Skye, even if it means havong to turn against Jaiying.

Elsewhere, Ward and Kara torture Bobbi in an attempt to get her to admit that she sold "Agent 33" out to protect her cover with HYDRA. Bobbi won't break though (well, she probably broke a few of Ward's ribs during her escape attempt), so the devious duo shake things up a bit: Bobbi doesn't seem to care about her own life, but what about Hunter's? Ward rigs a gun to blast the first person who walks into the room where Bobbi is being held, and when Hunter does just that, she maneuvers herself in front of the bullet. fear not though, Mockingbird lives to fight another day... which is more than can be said for Kara/Agent 33, who is killed by Ward when he mistakes her for May.

Back on the boat, it's a full-scale battle. Jaiying plans to release the crystals into the ventilation system, which will either kill every Agent or make them Inhuman. After various exciting hand-to-hand encounters with our new "ginger ninja" Alisha (an inhuman with Multiple Man-like powers), the team finally manages to prevail when Mac (getting all the best lines in this episode), Coulson and Fitz manage to trap Gordon in the room where the crystals are being kept. After a bit of teleport-tennis, "No eyes" inadvertently materializes right into the iron pipe Fitz is holding. As he dies, he drops one of the crystals which Coulson heroically dives to catch. The act saves the day but costs the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director his hand, as Mac is forced to take an axe to the limb when it begins to solidify.

Outside, Skye confronts Jaiying but she is too far gone to listen to reason and begins to syphon her daughter's life from her body. Enter Cal, who saves his little Daisy's life by... I think snapping his wife's neck and spine, though it's not really made clear. Would that even kill a woman who survived being dissected into pieces? Evidently it would.

After an emotional farewell with Skye, Cal leaves to begin his "sentence" -- a memory wipe courtesy of the Tahiti program. It's suggested that Skye will then be heading up a new division of powered people. The Secret Warriors? Only time will tell but I'd say it's a safe bet. We ten cut back to Ward, who's felling a bit lonely after Kara's death and decides he wants a team around him again. The new head of HYDRA? In the final scene, Fitz and Simmons make dinner plans but any romance for these guys will have to wait, as Simmons is "absorbed" by that mysterious Kree stone.

Vote below, then let us know what you made of all of this in the usual place.

A fitting finale to a good season.

(SPOILERS)
1. I was hoping for a little bit better action (it was okay, though).
2. I didn't want Agent 33 to die; I also hate that Ward is taking over Hydra.
3. WTF happened to Simmons? I thought that stuff neutralizes Inhumans. Why did it grab her, and where is she now?
4. Bobbi and Hunter aren't going anywhere. The spin-off series isn't happening.
5. Coulson joins the one-handed club. Probably will get a robot hand or replacement from Dr. Cho.
6. Kyle MacLachlan killed it, even though his Hyde make-up was pretty bad.
7. Looks like Secret Warriors is happening next season with Skye leading. They all but said that name out loud.
8. With no films arriving until Civil War at the end of Season 3, the show is free to do whatever it wants. Let's hope it continues to improve. It just needs a slightly higher VFX budget.

Well I forgot how horrifying that Simmons image was lol thanks. Like I said, the rock is either a Kree Sentry in standby or else some weird containment unit. Hyde transformation was fun, and Ward has a habit of whipping people into shape (Taskmaster)

absolutely loved it. And now they have a ton of time to deal with the consequences of the first two seasons and the cumulative consequences of phases 1 and 2 prior to Civil War kicking off phase 3. The Agents of Shield tie in to that movie should be pretty awesome.

Mr. Hyde was a bit of a disappointment, but I guess the makeup guys did a pretty good job, as I honestly thought (briefly) that it was a different actor playing the Transformed Cal. Kyle MacLachlan deserves an Emmy nom, but I doubt it will happen. Yes, his acting was over-the-top, but that was precisely what the role called for, and his presence raised the enjoyment level tenfold this season.

I actually thought the fish oil thing was kind of interesting. Because if you think about it, these things are going to kill far more people than they help...and in a way, Jiaying's plan was a success. Sets up a lot of drama for next season. I really liked the finale.

@supes123 Cavs vs Bulls game 5 was in the same time slot, could have had an effect. The series is already fighting everyone for second place in their time slot because of NCIS New Orleans so anything that might affect numbers is going to result in a big drop and probably a series low.

i talked to my friend earlier about that rock thing that ate simmons and i got the idea, what if it's like a symbiote? a kree weapon that needs to bond to a host before it can activate, although it's unlikely i think it would be cool.

Thought it was pretty well done. No major gripes. I think they could start the powered team off with Skye, Deathlok, and Lincoln.

Finally

SECRET WARRIORS are a go!

This show was unpleasant to follow in season 1, then season 2 got interesting.

But I'm glad I stuck with it for the payoff.

Was so glad to see Mockingbird kick some ass. She's one tough cookie. Glad she didn't crack, that would be out of character for Bobbi. Big Mac finally taking charge and owes Coulson an good old fashion.

SPOILERS: Great episode, good twists I didn't expect. I was totally surprised by Simmons, but I think the "Rock Goop Thing" might be Gravton. Think about it, it's a somewhat sentient metal shifting thing that has already been introduced partially.

Would've rather had the terrigen mist have been a bomb instead of fish oil...seems a little corny but it's still a cool move. Have inhumans be activated in the puclblic, deaths of those not descendants killed...can cause mass panic. civil war setup maybe??? New inhumans may cause mayhem with their powers and coulson and skye can't find them all

That rock/goop may be a variation of a KREE SENTRY.

"Sentry-459 accompanied a Kree scientific party that journeyed to Earth to experiment on sub-humans (which in turn created the race the Inhumans). When the Kree left Earth, Sentry 459 remained to monitor Inhuman progress, so that the Kree could later use them as a militia force."

I thought this season was about building Lance and Bobbi into characters we cared about and by the end I did. I was so blown away by that scene and Nick Blood killed it as an actor. She risked her life for him, he's the only thing she cares about and they did a great job of showing that it was the perfect way to end their on again off again love thing. She is totally redeemed as a character and the way they ended the season was perfect. I just want him to get a code name. Hoping for Black Knight.

Yeah those were great to. The coulson and cal moment was great, but the veins in his neck reminds me to much of my mom right before I got a ass wuppin back in the day.

Simmons ain't dead. I refuse to believe it. She is going to come back next season as a inhuman killing machine. She is going to get a death touch and be conflicted about using it being a doctor and all.

@Doopie- I thought He was one of the best parts of the whole season and I actually choked up when he was saying goodbye to skye, knowing that he wouldn't remember her. I love how in MCU they don't have to kill supervillains or throw them in jail sometimes they just reform and are better. It's kind of like real life.

I think Simmons being absorbed by the artifact is a foreshadow of Cao Marvel. I think Cap Marvel will get her powers from a Kree Sentry, which I think the artifact is, or from Captain Mar-Vell who we've yet to meet. I think the Kree artifact/ Sentry being activated will alert the Kree Science Corps and set up Mar-Vell coming to earth in The Cap Marvel movie. The Kree who came to earth before was a small precurosr...this Kree artifact and mass of inhumans being activated by the terrigen mist will call for Mar-Vell to arrive and the SWORD organization to be created. It's a massive problem that requires the Krees' best who is Mar-Vell.

Simmons will be some sort of vessel for the kree artifact/sentry. She may have some avilify to kill inhumans or be connected to the Kree supercomputer and ve a sort of spy for the kree without knowing. She may be a sort of human surveillance to scout thr Inhuman problem for the Kree Science Corps

After watching "The Flash" and then AOS, I found AOS to be severely wanting. It was anti-Climax and boring, though the only saving part was Sky's fighting skills have greatly improved (even if it's a stunt devil).

I really feel this show is going to start losing a lot more viewers when season 3 starts.
