Anthony Hopkins Confirmed in Thor

You've just heard the rumors, but it's now official. Hannibal Lecter will play Odin in Kenneth Branagh's new Marvel movie!

According to Variety magazine, Anthony Hopkins has been officially cast in Marvel's upcoming movie, Thor. The movie is slated to begin production in January.

Hopkins will play the part of Odin, the King of Asgard and father of both Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddelston).

Paramount Pictures will distribute the film May 20, 2011.

Hopkins will next be seen starring alongside Benicio Del Toro in the Joe Johnston directed film The Wolfman, and the Woody Allen directed film "You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger.

	I think he'll get the personality right and all, maybe not as right as some other Odin candidates, but right nonetheless. But he just doesn't fit the physical requirements for Odin at all. He's way too short and small-bodied, and his voice just isn't as powerful as I want Odin's to be. Ah well, I'll accept it, damn shame though, I was really pulling for Stellan Skarsgard. 	It sounds as if Branagh is really taking Thor seriously. With special effects that they have now, Hopkins' look doesn't really matter. He's a class act and a great addition to an already amazing cast! It would be awesome if this could get Oscar buzz and complete what TDK did in making comic book movies more than novelties. 	I think we need to wonder about what kind of Odin is really being portrayed here- because if he is somewhat closer to the old Norse mythology, he doesn't need to be a massive bull of a man- I mean ultimately, size doesn't really matter when you're a god, does it? I mean look at Loki, he's small as hell and still manages to be one of the worst villains in the Marvel U. Odin was as much a god of tricks and knowledge as he was the all-powerful, he gave up an eye to learn secrets of the universe- he wasn't all hack and slash, he was also cunning. I think Hopkins can pull of a great Odin. He'll be different than we might have expected, but he's also a much more intellectual, mysterious All-Father- a man whose knowledge of the cosmos is beyond any Thor can fathom... 	Today there is so many cool special effects that i think they are trying to make the movie little bit as The Lord of the Rings! 	I'm going to be lazy and just copy and paste from the other Thor update.....(BALLS) I totally dig Anthony Hopkins as Odin. I think he would be great. Hopkins has such an awesome acting range. I was also thinking that he would've been awesome as Jor-El if they were to do a Superman Reboot and they do something with the Kandor / Godfall story. I love Thor and I'm actually getting excited to see this movie. It's been awhile since I've been really excited to see a movie. On a side note, I think I'm the only person at work who is elaborately dressed for halloween being in a full Hercules / greek warrior outfit. 	lol I grew up in the 80's when it was very common to call things gay. I know several people that still do say that, and there's a lot of disconnect between someone actually using the word as an insult, and actual homosexual people. Liek it's very rarely meant to denigrate gays. It's just something that's said for comedie's sake or a put down, but rarely reflects the individuals feelings toward real gays. I'll give you an example: If someone were to say "Yo, DarthMulder, you are a CRACKER. Or call me a himey or a honkey or ghost face, do you think I am going bust out with this silly PC nazi bullshit? LOL Not a chance. I might think up something clever to retort with but, other than that it's nothing at all. It's funny really, especially within the context of shooting the bull with people. 	@Josh : Yes I live in the US. That good evening thing is a perfect illustration of what I am talking about. So now saying "good evening" - something that to an American would just seem like a polite thing to do is not allowed. Nice so good manners is non PC now. It's a huge megatrend in society. It's been going on a long time and it's a sociological plague. A blight, a scourge. The same bunch that want to silence their least favorite political party, or anybody that doesn't agree with them will turn around and tell others not to use words to offend anyone. Generally speaking, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but cracking jokes with my friends is just different. If only word wise it's a green light and passing judgement on someone else's comments is just a big waste of time.
