Why Former Disney Musical Stars Should NEVER PLAY SUPERHEROS!

The rumored role that will taint CBM's for generations to come

Follow Doug:
By Doug McCausland - 5/14/2014
I bet you heard the news today about a certain person who was known almost ten years ago for his starring role in a certain Disney musical being up for the running of a major role in a superhero movie.

I am probably just as pissed as all of you are. Seriously, how the hell are we supposed to take a movie like this seriously when all I can think of as he's punching up bad guys is his pretty boy voice during those fruity, childish musical segments?

And that is my editorial on why Christian Bale should NOT play Batman.

--The internet circa 2004

Yes, Bale probably had the chance to turn his career around with American Psycho, but just because he played in American Pyscho first doesn't mean that his role as Batman would have been any different if he had that role first. Just imagine what the internet would be like today if Bryan Cranston was rumored for Lex Luthor and didn't have the chance to play Walter White first.

So, give Zac Efron a chance. Its just a rumor for crying out loud.

Well said man. At first I was ready to call you out until I saw that twist.

Thumbs up !!!
SniktBub - 5/14/2014, 4:44 PM
Lol

Actually, Newsies was pretty good
CherryBomb - 5/14/2014, 4:51 PM
Zac Efron is a talented guy, he's proved it with his more dramatic roles and is really a star that's only getting bigger, so nerds can shut up and deal.

He's in like, peak physical condition too, both qualities make a CBM hero.
ruadh - 5/14/2014, 4:53 PM
@CherryBomb

I also don't see the issue. I mentioned in the News item comments (which of course are exploding with hate now) that a lot of actors start out with stuff you aren't into. Soaps, etc. Doesn't matter, since they can easily shine in the one role you really care about.

This editorial is brilliant.
BenderBendingRodriguez - 5/14/2014, 5:04 PM
A lesson Hack Snyder knows all too well lol

ruadh - 5/14/2014, 5:08 PM
@BenderBendingRodriguez

And see, that's the first time I'd ever seen that chick, was Sucker Punch. I guess I'm smart to not pay attention to movies I'm not interested in.
BIGBMH - 5/14/2014, 5:16 PM
Nicely done. Seeing the headline, I clicked ready to argue against your point. Good to see someone thinking about this sensibly. Past roles don't define all that an actor is capable of.
CaptainAmerica31 - 5/14/2014, 5:31 PM
Yea you're right. The point is if the roles were reversed the marvel die hards on here would be so against it. That's what's so stupid about this whole situation.
CaptainAmerica31 - 5/14/2014, 5:32 PM
@gliderman I assume you don't know how to read?
sikwon - 5/14/2014, 5:47 PM
I have a 17 year old daughter. That means that I've pretty much been forced to watch Zach grow up. He's not bad at all. High school musical was straight from he'll but the kid has charisma and talent. And marvel has been good at casting outside the box.
CherryBomb - 5/14/2014, 5:50 PM
Haha if only these trolls new that the majority of actors start off in musicals. It was just that Zac happened to be part of a pretty famous one.

yossarian - 5/14/2014, 5:51 PM
But...Bale sucked as Batman so you kind of ruined your whole clever point.

Nicely done.
CherryBomb - 5/14/2014, 5:56 PM
Robert Downey Jr began his career starring on musicals.
CherryBomb - 5/14/2014, 6:00 PM
@ruadh

Exactly! Some of the best actors began their career as a soap actor. Does it make them any less talented?
If you are one of the lucky people to be cast in a Disney phenomenon movie franchise, are you going to say no? NO.

And out of the whole cast it was clear to see that Zac would be the breakout star, he was so charismatic and has a magnetism on screen.
Objectivelybiased - 5/14/2014, 6:16 PM
How do we get something to the main page? I believe that MANY people need to read this. Its clever and there is a nice twist that even haters would have to consider. Nicely done.
ruadh - 5/14/2014, 6:24 PM
@Objectivelybiased

I agree. It's a good editorial, but the twist is what catapults it. This is how April Fools ought to be as well.
DigDugFunny - 5/14/2014, 6:34 PM
@Objectivelybiased

You would have to click the red thumbs up in the bottom left corner. Not sure how many it would need to reach the front page though.
acorsi11 - 5/14/2014, 6:41 PM
Thumbs Up! I think that Efron could play a good Iron Fist if anyone.
Pedrito - 5/14/2014, 6:52 PM
Haha. I love that pose.
TheManFromMars - 5/14/2014, 6:52 PM
Now I want to watch "The Musical Newsies"...
Objectivelybiased - 5/14/2014, 6:58 PM
Okay, I did the thumbs up when it was first posted...hopefully it gets enough to hit the main page.
TheManFromMars - 5/14/2014, 7:08 PM
I thumbed up too.
CCR - 5/14/2014, 7:18 PM
Ha, good one! Thumbs up
Scorpion8125 - 5/14/2014, 7:20 PM
Okay

Maybe 15-20 years from now.

But right now ZE looks like a total pus$y, and the general audience will not take him seriously at all as a super hero.

Unless he bags that part in the Ambiguously Gay Duo.

CCR - 5/14/2014, 7:23 PM
@Yossarian

Lol, good thing most people disagree with your dumb opinion.

Nicely done.
ruadh - 5/14/2014, 7:35 PM
@scorpionn8125

The general audience doesn't have as nearly a difficult time as comic nerds. Comic nerds have a hard time accepting anything.
CCR - 5/14/2014, 7:45 PM
@ruadh

CYNICAL and CLOSE-MINDED comic nerds have a hard time accepting anything, of which there is an abundance around these parts.
WYLEEJAY - 5/14/2014, 7:46 PM
Lol. Thumbs up from me. This made me happy. Plus im drunk. I also loved the part where it went right over Glidermans head. Lol.
ruadh - 5/14/2014, 7:46 PM
Trudat. I stand corrected.
silverdog - 5/14/2014, 7:53 PM
And dont forget "the princess diaries of catwoman" or " the fastest man alive ... on glee".
Ramiel - 5/14/2014, 7:56 PM
Haha! You got a thumbs up from me.
MiracleMe - 5/14/2014, 8:02 PM
Well played Doug McCausland! I've never seen any of Efron's Disney stuff and I learned a loooong time ago with Michael Keaton/Batman to not be knee jerk judgmental about casting. Doing so is what my dear departed mom called 'smelling yourself' haha
PunkRockJesus - 5/14/2014, 8:03 PM
Comedian03 - 5/14/2014, 8:11 PM
So because of where an actor gets their big break, we're suppose to judge them for the rest of their career and completely ignore any valid films and performances he's done in recent years?......Sounds good.
FoneBone - 5/14/2014, 8:11 PM
Zac Efron would be awesome as Daredevil, or any Marvel role given to him. It's very immature to object against an actor playing a role because they got their start from something you aren't used to or don't like. He would be great, show me a role he hasn't been good in. Calm down.
BlindJustice - 5/14/2014, 8:13 PM
I guess I never think about that stuff since I never saw any of those High School musical movies. Sorry, my kids just aren't into that stuff.

All childhood stars have to grow up eventually. Drew Barrymore is from my generation, but I don't still think of her as Elliott's little sister.

Sometimes you just have to forget and forgive.
BlindJustice - 5/14/2014, 8:15 PM
If we're to judge actors from past performances then I guess a good chunk of the people on this site better start hating on the new Batman...

Just saying.
SoSayethTheSpiderman - 5/14/2014, 8:17 PM
Don't forget Tony Award winner Hughbert Jackman in The Boy from OZ as well. Seriously go look up the synopsis of the musical on wikipedia and tell me it's not the farthest thing from comic book movies as possible. Just goes to show that performances in musicals doesn't preclude someone from playing an iconic comic book character.
TheManFromMars - 5/14/2014, 9:17 PM
Some people don't seem to get the joke.
Kyos - 5/15/2014, 4:25 AM
Haha, okay, that was nice! :D
