I think the main problem is that it got made at all
Carl - 7/4/2014, 8:18 AM
Its the fourth movie.
swindler1985 - 7/4/2014, 8:18 AM
About to watch the video, but off the top of my head: Zero emotional depth or connection with the human characters, no "Marty McFly" protagonist for audiences to root for, complete mischaracterization of Optimus, 30-45 minutes too long.
MarkJulian - 7/4/2014, 8:19 AM
Never thought I'd hear Optimus Prime say "I'LL KILL YOU ALL, I'LL KILL YOU, I'LL KILL YOU."
CaptShipwreck - 7/4/2014, 8:24 AM
The designs ... Looks like scrap metal put together, it's tough to focus on them
Too many humans
Too many deaths
Everything prime says is pretty much a cliche
The length
And bay doesn't seem to care about not knowing enough about transformers

Just a summer popcorn booster
And the franchise could benefit from a fresh set of eyes behind the cam

MercwithMouth - 7/4/2014, 8:25 AM
I believe MrSunday counts the original 1986 movie...
TheTruthHurts - 7/4/2014, 8:28 AM
it was made. There's the answer to the question.
BaronZemo1 - 7/4/2014, 8:29 AM
Need to avoid watching this before I see that actual movie. Then again, I highly doubt it will impact the "viewing pleasure."
Klone - 7/4/2014, 8:29 AM
It's simple wasted potential. Yes, yes, I know you'll get the comments saying "har har losers Bay gets the last laugh and moneh!" or "all der cartoonz were shit!" but in my opinion, many of the ideas and basic mythos of the Transformers has the potential to create something really, really cool. There's some brilliant ideas and stuff there waiting to be tapped and made into a good film that is being utterly wasted and if there's one thing I really despise with films/television shows/games it is squandered potential.
BaneSmash - 7/4/2014, 8:30 AM
I totaly agree the Dinobots were wasted........ What a shame!
Scorpion8125 - 7/4/2014, 8:30 AM
Sh!t movie. They all suck.
Klone - 7/4/2014, 8:32 AM
How come the Autobots, the superposed heroes, come across as far more brutal, sadistic and merciless in these films than the Decepticons, the supposed brutal, sadistic and merciless villains?
GL - 7/4/2014, 8:35 AM
Guess I won't watch it
MercwithMouth - 7/4/2014, 8:37 AM
And to answer @MrSundayMovies question...

1 thing I like:

Megan Fox

1 thing I don't like:

Lack of Megan Fox
sinestrosmight - 7/4/2014, 8:43 AM
The only AMAZING scene in the entire series is when Optimus goes full beast mode on 10 decepticons in DotM. I can watch that again and again.
mmadadamm - 7/4/2014, 8:48 AM
"I WILL KILL YOUU!" - Optimus Prime
ManCalledSting - 7/4/2014, 8:49 AM
I wanna hear a drunk history type podcast from you guys. I think that'd be hilarious.
ManCalledSting - 7/4/2014, 8:54 AM
I thought the first two were okay, and the third was realllly good. To many people on here with crazy high expectations, that set then selves up to be disappointed. Id lovd to see Bay do Power Rangers.
Nivekian - 7/4/2014, 8:58 AM
This film just underlines so much that is wrong with the movie going audience worldwide.

What's Wrong With TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION?

It was made. ;)
MrSuperheromoviefan - 7/4/2014, 9:02 AM
Terrible movie
bayformers are twilight for boys
if you defend or like it than you are no different then twilight fangirls
SymbioteJoker - 7/4/2014, 9:11 AM
Yeah everyone already knows my opinion on this :)

@Klone Well said!
ManCalledSting - 7/4/2014, 9:12 AM
MrSuperheromovie: By that logic, anyone who defends any series that some don't like, are that bad. DC fanboys and Mavel fanboys alike.
knighted - 7/4/2014, 9:13 AM

The best thing about these movies is the way the autobots kill. I love how Prime shows no mercy. It might be why dark of the moon is my favorite in the series. Sentinel begged for his life and prime capped that pass anyway. Very Clint Eastwood dirty harry like.
aRandomSinisterClone - 7/4/2014, 9:23 AM
jesus, 4 works outta that mouth was all i can take, brother, you def dont have a voice for this kinda work.
ManCalledSting - 7/4/2014, 9:26 AM
1984: please don't jump on my wagon, you're clearly a troll. Or just a douche, either way, peace out!!

aRandom: That's probably the dumbest, most American thing I've ever read on here. Good job.
ManCalledSting - 7/4/2014, 9:27 AM
aR: I believe you mean "words", not "works". Silly goose
GammerDad - 7/4/2014, 9:28 AM
I watched it...something hollow about the movie when compared to the mythic status Transformers as attained over the 30+ years.
PANTHER93 - 7/4/2014, 9:29 AM
I think Andy Serkis is playing fritz klaue aka fritz klaw aka Ulysses klaw's father in age of ultron ?
MercwithMouth - 7/4/2014, 9:31 AM
Surprise, surprise, @MrSuperheromoviefan bitchin again...

You don't seem to understand that millions upon millions of people like the Transformers movies. So what if they're terrible... They're fun. Sometimes, people just want to be entertained, and these movies do that with ease.

Do all of us a favour, and sit down, shut up, and don't talk to humans anymore...
xXkryptoniteXx - 7/4/2014, 9:34 AM
Visually this movie is amazing, action scenes are great and with the added of autobots talking to one another and a more interactions with the autobots amongst each other is great. I also like the fact Bay does give fans some old school node. Such as the original voice actor for Megatron is now voicing Galvatron. Optimus prime with his original form and the Dinobots being close to the original. The only thing I would say this movie needs is a more passable storyline that can engage the audience to sit 2hr and 45 mins and also maybe low down the time of the movie. My kid loves it but she sat through it bored and lost interest during the end.

Improve on those and we will get a better transformers.
xXkryptoniteXx - 7/4/2014, 9:35 AM
Also too any human storyline, it's a transformers movie. Don't add too many humans, focus on the robots and action with a good story.
PANTHER93 - 7/4/2014, 9:36 AM
I thought transformers 4 was a good popcorn movie
Bobevanz - 7/4/2014, 9:37 AM
What's wrong? Every [frick]ing thing lol except john goodman as hound. He's awesome no matter what ^_^
ManCalledSting - 7/4/2014, 9:37 AM
Merc: Agreed. That's why I'd love to see Bay direct a MMPR movie. Minimal story, tons of action and adventure that helps tell the story visually. Sounds like most Bay movies to me.
MercwithMouth - 7/4/2014, 9:43 AM
@ManCalledSting

Yeah, Bay has been a fan-favorite to do Power Rangers. It's right up his alley. I'm not sure if I'd watch it, as I HATED the Power Rangers when I was a kid, but his style could draw me in for some sweet explosions and whatever their giant robots are called (Dino-Zords or some shit?)
SauronsBANE - 7/4/2014, 9:43 AM
Well this should be pretty easy to answer:

1) Terrible messages and morals for a movie that's supposedly "for the kids."
2) Utterly unlikable, so-called "good" guys that act like psychopaths who have a hard-on for murdering people.
3) A strong, creepy anti-women vibe from every single movie in this franchise so far.
4) A "dumb" summer blockbuster that actively insults his own audience's intelligence every step of the way.
5) Racist, sexist, misogynist, and generally offensive attempts at "humor".
6) A franchise that claims to revolve around being action-oriented...but proves time and again that Bay has absolutely no idea how to film action, and has no idea what function action has in a story.

Seriously people, these movies do more harm than good. Stop settling for whatever garbage Bay and the rest of Hollywood throws your way, and demand more. There's absolutely no excuse for dumb, mindless movies anymore when Inception, Edge of Tomorrow, Snowpiercer, etc have all proven that summer blockbusters can be smart, witty, exciting, action-packed, creative, and NOT dumb and insulting.
JillyMcBeam - 7/4/2014, 9:43 AM
Everything....just everything.
MercwithMouth - 7/4/2014, 9:50 AM
@sauronsBANE1

I like you most of the time. Your reviews are awesome, and your knowledge of the technical aspects of filmmaking is second-to-none. If you're not a film student, you should be.

That being said,

Why do you bother with the Transformers movies? Why do you expect anything different than what we've been given for 4 straight films? This is what Bay does, and he does it extremely well. Most of the fans know that the movies are technically terrible, but we don't care. We go and watch them because they're entertaining.

And this racist humour stuff... So what? Racial humour isn't allowed in a movie anymore? Someone go tell Chris Tucker he can't call anyone a cracker in a movie anymore... Go tell Chris Rock he can't say [racial slur] on tv anymore. And someone please tell Ralphie May that racial humour isn't funny. He might slap you with a hundred dollar bill, though.
SauronsBANE - 7/4/2014, 10:02 AM
Haha well thank you very much Merc, I really appreciate all that!

But the thing that really irks me about these Transformers movies...it's not that I'm expecting to get something different after being handed basically the same movie FOUR times already. I know what I'm getting at this point.

My problem isn't with what to expect. It's with the fact that we're still getting these movies in the first place. I totally understand the "It's so bad, it's good!" mentality of tons of people who flock to these movies. I have no problem with those people...except that I somewhat begrudge them for handing over their money to this guy, thus ensuring we continue to get even MORE of this garbage.

The thing is: this franchise is supposedly for kids. It's so obviously marketed at them, with all the merchandise and toys and whatnot that inevitably get sold whenever these movies come out. So since that's the case, do you honestly believe that kids and teens go to see these movies, knowing full well that they're objectively terribly-made films? No, TONS of people actually believe these are good, high-quality, perfectly fine movies. Heck, you see those comments ALL the time in any Transformers article here on CBM.

And that's just so dangerous. If someone goes into these movies without the knowledge of just how BAD they are, there's some REALLY warped stuff going on that can affect them in any number of ways. The racist/sexist humor, the "good guys" that make acting like the bad guys seem 'cool', the mixed messages...can't you see how negatively that can affect young people?

It reinforces the notion that racism is okay these days, or treating women like some kind of inferior product that must be constantly "protected" is perfectly okay...and it's not. Those are ridiculously important issues, and just because they exist in a "dumb, mindless" summer blockbuster doesn't change that one bit.

I guess all I'm asking for is a little more accountability from Bay. You aim a movie at kids, the least you can do is make sure it's a high quality, inoffensive, moral piece of entertainment. These movies are the farthest thing possible from that.
