In a new Total Film interview Simon Pegg spoke briefly about J.J. Abram's take on Star Wars Episode 7 and how it will have a strong emphasis on bringing the fun back to the franchise.

“What will he bring to the franchise? Everything that was missing from the last three. That’s what he did to Star Trek, really – invigorate it with a little bit of Star Wars magic. He switched it from science-fiction to science-fantasy. And I think if anyone can pull [Star Wars] out of the mire, it’s J.J. He’ll bring the fun back. Lucas seemed to misread what made the first ones great, and concentrate on things that people didn’t really care about, or wilfully ignore the things that people cared about. Whereas J.J. will embrace them all.

Pegg also spoke about some of the things we’ll definitely be seeing in the 2015 sequel.

“We’re going to see the Millennium Falcon again. We’re going to see those characters again. All the things that we loved about the first three, we will see again."

So what do you think? Is a more light hearted and fun take on the franchise as seen in the original trilogy the right direction to head?

UPDATE: User untipoconboina brought to our attention that anything Simon Pegg said to Total Film in relation to Star Wars Episode 7 was pure speculation. Boo!

" All the things that we loved about the first three, we will see again."

Does that mean we'll get the Ice Cream Maker Guy?!
JoeMomma29 - 5/9/2013, 9:20 PM
I am stoked bring back Boba Fett......
PsychoManiacJacky - 5/9/2013, 9:22 PM
Please keep all the Star Trek actors as far away from Star Wars as possible...we want a Star Wars film not a lame actor crossover
Super12 - 5/9/2013, 9:30 PM
Good......goooood.

No but seriously I dont wanna see one familiar face from Star Trek and Star Wars
themcdougalbugle - 5/9/2013, 9:31 PM
Still wish they grew balls and got Jake Schreier and David Fincher. They can make up for it by getting them to direct Episode VIII and IX.
TheRationalOne - 5/9/2013, 9:37 PM
Who's a lame actor in Star Trek? I don't want to see them cross over either, but nobody in Star Trek is a bad actor by any means. And why would you think that would happen anyway? None of the Star Trek actors were in Super 8. Sounds like bitching for the sake of bitching.

If anyone deserves to be in [frick]ing Episode 7, it's Pegg. Him and Dan Fogler as well as the rest of the cast in Fanboys should make very hard-to-catch cameos in Star Wars VII. Hell, throw in Kevin Smith.
Jollem - 5/9/2013, 9:52 PM
Durango95 - 5/9/2013, 9:55 PM
What the [frick] are you talking about? Kevin Smith,Fogel and Pegg need to stay out of movies altogether. Youre a [frick]ing idiot. Nothing was wrong with I-III and I was a huge fan of the original trilogy.
Tony93 - 5/9/2013, 9:56 PM
pegg is involved?
Grievo - 5/9/2013, 10:06 PM
I like and own the prequels but if you think nothing is wrong with them, you're in denial. "Yipeee!"
Azrael725 - 5/9/2013, 10:08 PM
So is Pegg involved in Star Wars? I'm confused on how he knows this stuff.
Batmanfan123gotham - 5/9/2013, 10:10 PM
Simon Pegg better be in episode VII!!! That's all I gotta say...
SamHell - 5/9/2013, 10:18 PM
How does he know?
continuezero - 5/9/2013, 10:22 PM
Pegg could play an alien, wouldn't even know it was him. Trek was bad for reusing actors to play several different aliens. But I agree with everyone, Wars and Trek must remain separate. Any crossover is blasphemy.
TheIlluminati - 5/9/2013, 10:25 PM
Nobody wants to see Simon Pegg in Star Wars
SpoonWielder - 5/9/2013, 10:25 PM
" All the things we loved about the first three, we will see again."

Sweet......Carrie Fisher in a bikini.
SamHell - 5/9/2013, 10:27 PM
yep, JJ should keep the ST actors in their own world
DarkArts - 5/9/2013, 10:28 PM
All Abrams did was turn Trek into the product Paramount wanted. He approached it like a businessman and thats what the studios want. They dont want to deal with some director who has artistic vision and ideas he wants to bring to the screen.
They want a guy whos in it for money alone, and thats what they and Disney are getting with Abrams.

Abram's brought Trek down to a level where no thinking is required. Its pure visual nonsense with no more relevance than the original Battlestar Galactica, or Buck Rogers In The 25th Century or non SCI FI shows like The Fall Guy, Dukes Of Hazzard and A-Team.

It now just another corporate friendly formulaic property that delivers mindless entertainment and makes money in the process.

SW 7 will be loaded with great visuals and action. It will be like watching Abrams play a Star Wars video game with great graphics.

"Nothing was wrong with I-III"

I was going to make some witty comeback, rendering you completely and utterly dumbstruck like a dumb[frick] but then you said that and I contemplated if you really revered that as a genuine intelligent thought...

So I've decided to take the more sophisticated route and tell myself:

Vadakin - 5/9/2013, 10:58 PM
Frankly I hope Pegg is kept far away from Star Wars. He's been shitting on it for so long that he doesn't deserve a role.
chewie - 5/9/2013, 10:59 PM
So pumped for this!!
Panoramacon - 5/9/2013, 11:29 PM
Eh, this movie should be about moving forward not reliving the past. Save that for some of the standalone movies.
thebearjew - 5/9/2013, 11:48 PM
Vadakin simon peggs shat on the franchise????
No I believe george lucas dide that in 1991 ;)
Simn pegg is well nown as a huge fan of the originals
OrgasmicPotatoe - 5/9/2013, 11:58 PM
Have Pegg and Frost in complete alien makeup standing in the background of a scene, doing nothing particular. Because why not.
manofmidgard - 5/10/2013, 12:04 AM
gonna be a b!tch to recast. how in blazes they gonna find a new han solo? would be even worse to have all the old actors back methinks. i had just assumed they would leap forward in time and all the old characters would be just memories and legends. hope that the falcon has been upgraded then. han should have the cash now to fix her up the way he wants her. hope they kill off some of the silly frivolous characters like jar-jar and c3p0. also, i wanna see yoda's home world. just because he was the last jedi master, doesn't mean he was the last, um, well, whatever the h3ll he is!
Kayo - 5/10/2013, 12:09 AM
hell yeah, bring back the YT-1300 freighter.
skidz - 5/10/2013, 1:10 AM
I doubt Pegg is in it, but he is in a position to learn details on the project.
skidz - 5/10/2013, 1:12 AM
@manofmidgard: They aren't recasting anyone. Ford, Hamill and Fisher have signed on to come back. The story most likely won't revolve around them, though. Probably their children.
MrNiklander - 5/10/2013, 1:27 AM
I was boring until Duel Of Fates II was just plain boring III was OK
untipoconboina - 5/10/2013, 2:27 AM
He said on Twitter that this was mere speculation and that he hasn't talked with Abrams about it.

MrSundayMovies - 5/10/2013, 2:59 AM
@untipoconboina: Thanks for bringing that to our attention mate, I've credited you in the article.
kuestmaster - 5/10/2013, 3:37 AM
Yeah, just like fisher's agent keeps telling she's joking when she says everyone is coming back.
it's clear that disney is planing to make a big announcement, so pegg has been told to stfu.
NoAssemblyReqd - 5/10/2013, 3:47 AM
*sigh*

This article reminds me of "scoopers" who get the top secret info about new rides and attractions from Disney shuttle bus drivers.

Nothing to see here. Move along.
Jwe75 - 5/10/2013, 4:00 AM
"all the thins we loved from first three" and 1 thing we did not in second 3 = Jar Jar will be back :D
nach1wan - 5/10/2013, 5:10 AM
yeah, it would be better to keep star trek actors away from star wars.. probably
simon pegg and george takei did feature in the clone wars, and that was awesome
scootaloo - 5/10/2013, 5:17 AM
First we lost Captain Abrams, now we're losing Scotty. They're all traitors.
dellamorte1872 - 5/10/2013, 5:42 AM
TREK needs to be sci-fi fact not sci-fi fantasy maybe we'll get a director who actually likes TREK and doesn't wanna turn it into something it's not!
dellamorte1872 - 5/10/2013, 5:44 AM
He was doing a marketing campaign for STAR WARS and lowland behold he did it, even if it seemed hard to believe. Lets get an actual director who LOVES ST that's what we as fans really need now
dellamorte1872 - 5/10/2013, 5:44 AM
Low and behold ^
