Prototype Toy Created for Tim Burton's SUPERMAN LIVES

The website timburton.jp has posted what appears to be the first action figure for Tim Burton's failed Superman film, that would've starred Nicolas Cage as the Man of Steel.

Let me start off by saying thank you Tim Burton for doing such a stellar job with your two Batman films. No, they aren't even close to the brilliance of Nolan, but they were a huge improvement over the campy Adam West television show. With that out of the way, I think most of us would agree it was a blessing that Burton's Superman was never made.

The images below I'm gonna guess are a prototype of the "Recovery Suit" Superman that was seen in previously posted concept art.

@comicoverlord: I actually wish this movie would've gotten made. It's not like it could've been any worse than Returns and at least this had a chance of not being boring

Also... I'm so sick of Nolanites. I find it ridiculous to praise him with such a "brilliant" portrayal of the batman universe. Burton's movies were FAR more accurate to the source material. The only thing Nolan has done right by the comics is Scarecrow.

Im glad the second one was called The Dark Knight... made it easier to pretend that wasn't the joker.

@deadwebbhead in my opinion this shit would.of seriously set back CBM I haven't seen a decent thing from this and returns was pretty good, it was dark very Batmanesk but I am far from Nolanite but i can't deny how well those films have done and heath ledgers portral of the joker was genius those films, whether you agree or not, has helped the CBM genre

@DeadWebHead..well im a "Nolanite"...of course it wasnt accurate...no one praised him at all for accuracy...Thats why hes so "brilliant". The movie doesnt have to be accurate at all to make it great...you just need the right material. nolan took a cartoon comicbook..and transformed it into a REAL WORLD movie...the stuff in the movie could actually happen...thats why its so brilliant.

@Dead... I definitely agree with you on the Returns stuff. But I disagree about the Nolan bit. Every creative team in the comics has done things a bit differently. I don't mind seeing someone's new version of any particular character. I think it's actually a cool thing. But at the same time, maybe you do as well and just didn't like Nolan's version. Which I have no problem with. We are each to our own tastes.

But yeah the "worship" factor is a little annoying. I enjoy the movies... but yeah... some are a bit much.

Those who have read 'death of superman' , 'reign of supermen' storylines will agree with me.. bcz the movie's concept has an epic feel to it like the comics..and I wouldn't mind seeing Nic Cacge as Superman (if he was doing this movie in the 90..lol :)

Lmao God how I wish this movie could've been made, just for the laugh factor alone. And say what you want, love or hate it, it would've been, without a shadow of a doubt, entertaining as hell!

I'm gonna jump in here and with DeadWebHead and comicoverlord on the Nolanites and just the general worshiping factor on with some fans. I can see why many people enjoy Nolan's take on Batman, but as a fan of the comics, I don't.

@loum410, when you said, "The movie doesnt have to be accurate at all to make it great...you just need the right material" I gotta disagree with that. No matter what it is that your making, if its an adaptation of other work, then there should be at least some level of accuracy. When Nolan took his so called realistic approach, he changed the format from the comics in many ways big time, which was perfectly fine, but one aspect he should've kept accurate was the essence of who Bruce Wayne/Batman really is. Even though he changed the look of Scarecrow and Joker, he still kept their sick personalities, their overall twisted mind frame, how they methodically conduct themselves, and in general, maintained the essence of these characters, but he lost that with Batman. In the movies you lose the brooding & damaged man, the brilliant & cunning mind, and just the badass alpha male attitude... Not to mention the physical factor, with how Bale looks way to skinny. Batman is a character that keeps his body at perfection. I know its not realistically possible to do that but Bale should have bulked up the way that(forgot his name) the new guy playing Superman has..... Point is, if your creating an adaptation, you gotta have some level accuracy.

Some of the calibre of comments on here is [frick]in retarded

I loved Burton's take on Batman. Despite its floors and inaccuracies. But this doesn't count as "thinking outside of the box" and not bring "generic". It's called [frick]ing with shit just for the sake of [frick]ing with shit.

I love Nolan's take on Batman. Despite it innaccuracies. But that doesn't make me a Nolanite. It makes me a fan of good filmmaking. I like all of his other work, not just the Batman movies. To say his fight scenes are the "worst" is pretentious in itself.

So for people to complain about Nolan's break from the source material but still championing this abomination is ridiculous. It wouldn't have been "cool" to see this made, it would have set CBM's back years and left it in a state where the genre was laughable yet again.

And Cage as Superman?...that's the poo icing on a turd cake if ever I heard one.

The movie actually had a nice concept, I'll give it that. But so far from what I've seen and heard, the details, looks, and nearly everything else of it...none of them would've made a good movie.

And Burton and Nolan's Batman series are great in their own ways. Both had flaws and brilliances of their own...and in the end, it's just each person's preference that people debate about.

I like the way you post those images with comparison between comic book and the movie's scene and make us believe that Burton's Batman is more faithful to the source material. It's not the way you see how faithful the director to the source material. If you want it that way, then Zack Snyder should make every CBM. *If you watch 300 and Watchmen*

I think Nolan is more faithful director. In case of The Dark Knight. He read The Killing Joke, take the point of the story, explore the character and see how it could be adapt in the big screen or even real world. =)

Intruder: Yes, and I also agree on the point about the era differences.

And well, they're also two different directors with two different styles. We all know how Burton is a...'gothic' styled director or something like that, and how realistic Nolan is. Regarding the differences from the material source, I think it's also due to each director's style. Burton could make Batman movies that looked like they stayed loyal to the comic books because he's that kind of fantastical director (and also at that time, realism wasn't a big deal either I believe), while the changes; e.g. the creepy Penguin, etc., I believe were there because of that his 'gothic' style I mentioned before. Same goes to Nolan...well, we all know how his movies went.

I actually PREFER the campy TV show because it knew what it was and didn't pretend to be something else!

@headlopper I loved the 60's show. The Batmobile is still sick as hell. I also enjoyed the animated series. Never really got into the series where the Joker was Jamaican though.

Enjoyed BATMAN in 89 as well. I think Burton resparked the super hero movie and maybe blockbusters in general to some degree. I don't really remember anything too big before that unless you go back to the Lucas/Speilberg era. But yeah, they were pretty much live-action cartoons. Awesome for the time.

When Bats is rebooted, I'd like a reality/sciencfiction compromise without being silly. Tall order, but I think it can be achieved. Nolans films are awesome, but I welcome a less restricted, more comic-book Bats for the next go round. A Nolan trilogy of his take is more than enough. Just keep the quality of the production values and casting, and find a way to bring more monsterous elements in without camping it out.

I wouldn't call them insane even if they're wrong.

Burton himself had stated that Batman was his least favorite film and had no interest of using comic books in his films.
Nolan on the other hand, incorporated comics into the plot. Year One, Long Halloween, etc. In The Dark Knight Rises, he will be using Knightfall, No Man's Land, and The Dark Knight Returns.
Yes, he has grounded Batman, but from what I've read in his interviews, he has a great respect for the characters and goes as far as adding plot elements from comics into his films..

@Intruder... I think I actually agree with you. I mean I prefer Nolan's over Burton's (both are great tho IMO). I've never thought about Burton's films in context with the comics at the time (the 80s), so I really get his version a lot more now.

@headlopper well the cartoon (Batman: TAS) took a lot of inspiration from Tim Burton's Batman flicks.

Man am I glad this never got made. This wouldve done for Superman what Batman & Robin did for Batman. Every piece of concept art and prototype from this movie makes me cringe. @deadwebhead dude, Burton has never read a Batman Comic book, because first off, the joker NEVER killed Bruce Wayne's Parents, and the most important point which has been made already, BATMAN DOESNT KILL PEOPLE. while I liked the Burton Batman when it came out, ive watched it since then and Ive found that I like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight alot better, to me they have a better story. That's my opinion though, and I respect yours but dont mistake me for a "Nolanite" by no means is it certain that because his Batman movies were successful does it mean his Version of Supes will be, but he has proven himself a competent director so im gonna give his version of Supes a try and who knows maybe it'll be the best Superman movie or maybe not we will not be able to tell until it comes out.

But guys, there's no point in arguing over Burton and Nolan. They're both great, it's just a matter of opinion on who you prefer.
We can all agree on one thing...


Anything is better than Joel Schumacker's Batman flicks.
