bad.
Boekelaar - 12/10/2012, 11:54 PM
After watching all the preview images and first trailer or so I was convinced this movie was going to tank. Now I'm thinking this could make some serious money, it looks beautifully shot and just screams summer blockbuster. Disney must have hired a new advertising department because this is streets ahead of John Carters trailers and destroys everything we've seen previously. All depends on the release date as to how high this bird can fly.

Its either going to be 1st POTC good or plain bad, it all depends on Depp performance as an Indian. Armie Hammer looks quite decent in his role tho.

Whats with all that jazzy footage in the beginning? This trailer revealed very little about the plot. Which could be a good thing I guess.
luffycapri - 12/11/2012, 12:32 AM
Looks fun
Jolt17 - 12/11/2012, 12:39 AM
Looking good. And fortunately, this time it doesn't look like Tonto and His Sidekick that much. (Although the fact that Johnny Depp is the only one who gets the credit in that trailer does show.)

has potential.. and agree with jolt17
Silentman - 12/11/2012, 12:45 AM
Verbinski seems like he put his all into those visuals cause it looks very stylized and almost art-house-y. ill give it a shot, it's either gonna be quality like pirates 1, or end up being wild wild west... here's hoping for the former.
Boekelaar - 12/11/2012, 12:53 AM
@Jolt17 did we watch a different trailers? I saw Armie Hammer's name come up.

@Silentman I agree with that. Very stylised. I'm hoping with his direction on that front and the acting abilities of Hammer and Depp we'll be in for a very entertaining ride. If the script is solid it can't fail.

Meh. I'm sure this will be a huge hit. People will flock to the theatre to see Depp in anything. An action packed family film in an adventure/comedy genre like Pirates. Not my thing, though, based on what I've seen and read.

If you're going to introduce the Lone Ranger to a new generation, this is how you do it... with a wise cracking Johnny Depp, over the top action, and an abundance of slow motion. I probably won't see it in the theatre, but if the feedback is decent, I'll catch it as a rental.

One positive is they do seem to be respecting his origin story and we can probably assume the villain will be his nemesis Butch Cavendish (I had to look up the name).

I can't say as to how much money it will make. All I can say is this looks like fun and I'll be seeing it if nothing else.

Opening on July 4th weekend should give it a good boost. I guess an opening of 65M.
Jolt17 - 12/11/2012, 1:36 AM
Boekelaar: My bad, I did miss that last bit of the trailer...in fairness, though, Depp is still the only one who gets that big credit before the title card pops up!

I understand the "star power" aspect, but I'm still bothered by the fact that Armie Hammer doesn't get that honor. Hell, giving him another big credit after Depp's would still suffice.

Way better than the first trailer. I might give this a shot. Most likely a Redbox movie.
DCjohnny - 12/11/2012, 2:28 AM
wow ,cool, awesome trailer.... it has the same background story as jonah hex(which turned out to be a sh*t movie).... hope this one is good...
DCjohnny - 12/11/2012, 2:30 AM
even i agree armie hammer will be the suitable actor for batman/bruce wayne...
Coldblood6 - 12/11/2012, 3:01 AM
Looks quite promising! I think I'll check it out.
Boekelaar - 12/11/2012, 3:29 AM
@Jolt17 well the movie is called 'The Lone Ranger' and not 'Tonto'. Hammer is a serious talent in my opinion and even if he doesn't get his due in the trailer I'm sure that the movie will help boost his profile.

@nailbiter111 I'm going to be very surprised if this tanks now. Good release date, better advertising, a Caribbean reference, barely a mention of Disney and Johnny Depp playing a weirdo. Disneys name will get better soon after their new slate of releases including the Marvel films but for right now it's very smart of them to downplay their involvement. People avoid Disney Live-action films that aren't for kids.
Jolt17 - 12/11/2012, 3:32 AM
Boekelaar: True. It's, just, that little thing that slightly annoys me! :)
VinzClortho - 12/11/2012, 3:38 AM
Johnny Depp's accent sounds HORRIBLE!
Happy11 - 12/11/2012, 3:43 AM
After watching that trailer I am right and don't want him playing Batman.
Happy11 - 12/11/2012, 3:45 AM
@nailbiter what do you think on him playing Batman.
HavocPrime - 12/11/2012, 3:47 AM
Looks interesting, Depps accent is something that will need getting used too though
Facade - 12/11/2012, 4:40 AM
Um...no.
CrimsonReign - 12/11/2012, 4:52 AM
Average.
CharlesLord - 12/11/2012, 5:28 AM
looks interesting. I still dont know why they had to do such an expensive train wreck scene lol
wolverinesfury - 12/11/2012, 5:28 AM
PapaII - 12/11/2012, 5:30 AM
Total meh. What the [frick] is wrong with Depp's accent?? Embarrassing! Do doubt this will take some money from people who want to see Sparrow again... not me!
superotherside - 12/11/2012, 5:41 AM
Jolt17 I agree. It's not as good as I hoped but it does seem like a fun action movie. Just hope they do have some story instead of just all action and explosion.
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 12/11/2012, 5:49 AM
Ewwww... Pass
NYCgeekDad - 12/11/2012, 6:22 AM
Is it just me, or does Depp's portrayal seem really racist? It may not be, but it just FEELS racist
Nomis1800 - 12/11/2012, 6:41 AM
I want to see this!
Mrcool210 - 12/11/2012, 6:41 AM

Meh
Wingding - 12/11/2012, 7:03 AM
.....what the?
FennecPilot - 12/11/2012, 7:13 AM
It was so bad that I did not even make it through the end of the trailer before I turned it off.

This appears to be a huge pile of steaming magic horse-shit.....
fullmoon106 - 12/11/2012, 7:20 AM
Looks fun. I like Verbinski's movies, so I'm interrested. I liked that we saw more Hammer this time around. He's supposed to be the titular character, but the previous trailer was more about Depp.

@AkshunJaksun I would like to see Hammer as Batman too. He has the build, charisma and some darkness in his presence. I hope he gets another chance.
