ILM's VFX Breakdown Videos For Peter Berg's Razzie-Nominated BATTLESHIP

There were many, many things wrong with Peter Berg's Battleship, but the visual effects were not an issue at all, as you can see in Industrial Light and Magic's two visual effects breakdown videos.

Battleship has been nominated in six categories - and twice in one of them - of the 33rd Annual Golden Raspberry Awards, or better known as the Razzies. They are competing for Worst Picture, Worst Director (Peter Berg), Worst Supporting Actress (Brooklyn Decker & Rihanna), Worst Supporting Actor (Liam Neeson), Worst Screen Ensemble, and finally, Worst Screenplay. That's pretty bad, but not as terrible as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 which earned a whopping 11 nominations, one in each category - twice in one of them.

Behind the Magic: The Visual Effects of "Battleship"

Peter Berg (Hancock, The Kingdom, Friday Night Lights) directs and produces Battleship, an epic-scale action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force.

Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lieutenant Alex Hopper, a naval weapons officer assigned to USS John Paul Jones; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of USS Sampson; global music superstar Rihanna, making her motion-picture debut as Petty Officer Second Class Cora Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, Hopper’s fiancée and a physical therapist specializing in the rehabilitation of military combat veterans; Tadanobu Asano, as Captain Yugi Nagata, Commanding Officer of the Japanese destroyer Myoko and Hopper’s archrival; and Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane, Commander of the Pacific Fleet.

I actually thought Battleship was a pretty fun movie. I mean the acting in the movie was terrible but the effects and action was awesome. Also the WW2 vets in the movie were good because I love to see real life heroes.

It's sad that he most effective performances in the film are from a chicken-burrito obsessed supermodel and a dude with robot legs.

brooklyn decker's body & the cgi effects were the best things about battleship.

this movie wasn't that bad. It didn't pretend to be anything other than retarded pretty visuals. Mission accomplished. The opening scene set the tone.

The worst part of the movie was the part where Gambit is falling all over himself to ask the WW2 vets for help without offending them.

Thanking vets is all well and good when you're taking a tour of a ship, it was absurd and over done during the climax of the movie. Their options were be killed by aliens for sure, or try and not be killed by aliens, there was no reason for that speech to take so long and be so dramatic.

I thought the game tie-ins were brilliant, the grid and the bombs.

The worst film of the year was ghost rider to me,I actually didnt mind this,it had robot alien things and battles, whats there to hate other than the acting

This movie had one of the dumbest, unintentionally hilarious third-acts ever. That being sad, it was bad but far from worst movie of the year. That honor belongs to Project X.

@PatriotsSuperguy
Liam Neeson did NOT have fall from grace recently..Battleship was a mindless fun action film as intended & Taken 2 was exactly as expected, more of the same ass-kicking.

Two nice paydays for Liam & The Grey was a terrific film. Neeson is still top notch.

Actually thought it was a fun ride, nothing more nothing less.

Not a movie you see at the cinema, but rather on your home theater system. Better than the (more expensive and popular) Transformers movies.
KNIGHT3000 - 1/19/2013, 6:00 AM
Can't believe Liam didn't yell "YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP!". If he did, I would love this film
Moakynubs - 1/19/2013, 7:18 AM
Is that part of the Avengers soundtrack in the background of the first film?
KeefNCookies - 1/19/2013, 7:23 AM
A lot of this movie was a joke... but the effects were no joke. One of the shiniest things I've seen and was entertaining because I absolutely did not expect there to be any compelling story what-so-ever. It was fun. Dumb, but fun. And its good to have those now and then
phenomenon - 1/19/2013, 7:30 AM
the movie was good enough..... can mention tons of worse movies....
pro346 - 1/19/2013, 3:15 PM
Best effects of any movie in 2012 can you tell the difference between a CGI ship and a real ship.
