Is GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Going To Be An Animated Film?

The website, Bloody-Disgusting, is reporting that Sony and Columbia Pictures are planning to move forward with a Ghostbusters 3 movie, but this time the film will be animated, not live-action.

"Sony is looking to do Ghostbusters 3 as an animated film, a source exclusively reveals to Bloody Disgusting. This was the original plan back in 2007, which eventually resulted in the incredible 2009 video game." - Bloody-Disgusting.com

But another website, Coming Soon, refutes these claims, "We talked to the studio, which said that the report is not true. They continue to develop a new live-action version and there is no animated movie in the works."

By now we all know the story of Ghostbusters 3, but let's do a quick recap for fun. All of the original cast members would like to make the film, except Bill Murray. The actor has been handed new script after new script and just won't commit to the project. For some odd reason Murray is deciding to be picky about the project even though he did Garfield and Garfield 2 during this period.

As for the plot, according to Dan Aykroyd it will center around the old team teaching a bunch of young recruits how to be ghostbusters. The plan seems to be hand off the franchise to this younger generation.

MrMxyzptlk @ Yeah man damn straight, with or without Murray, it needs to be done.

Wtf is wrong with Murray though, if it wasn't for GHOSTBUSTERS he wouldn't be half as big as he is today, got some juicy roles back then if you look. Time 4 pay back!

I suppose money talks though, hopefully.

Omfg why are they still having such a hard time with actually doing Ghostbusters 3?!?
Seriously, I got the problems with Murray but they solved that and only now they're considering it to be animated?? Frickin' hell.
Just like, I could literally write the plot for a third film in five minutes that could easily work in live action and be entertaining. Hell a five year old could probably do it in ten minutes.
Personally, I think either they get it sorted in the next few months and if not just give up and let the two great films not be damaged by a third.
(and the reason I'm so pissed is...Ghostbusters as a movie would not work as animated. Sure the game worked, but it just wouldn't as a movie in my opinion)

Oh, for [frick]'s sake. Nobody wants a third film, the franchise star included, so just leave it.

@LEEE777 - That's the whole point. He's stated several times that he loves Ghostbusters. He thought they cocked up the second film and he's seen nothing to warrant a third. He sees it as just making it for money and shitting over the good work they did in the first. And I [frick]ing agree with him.

One of the main problems with GhostBusters II was how kiddie-oriented it was. An animated film doesn't bode wel. Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised with The Real Ghostbusters cartoon.

Bill Murray is smart to stay away from this. Its just some smartass dudes running around with metal backpacks.
Ackroyd and Ramis need to get real jobs if they need money.

I give up on this movie or game of WTF ever it is :/

That's a relief! I don't want to see a Ghostbusters film on the big screen be animated.

@LEEE I love you, man... But doing GB3 without Bill Murray is crazy talk. :P

I want to see another sequel that is as good as the original. I don't think that could happen without Bill Murray's involvement.

If they can't do it right, then they shouldn't do it at all.

@DukeAcureds That cartoon was awesome! Extreme Ghosbusters wasn't as good, but it was still fun to watch.
