300: Rise of an Empire pulled in $3.3M at early midnight screenings Thursday and have added another $17 million on Friday. Those numbers have pushed its estimated 3 day cume to somewhere between $43M to $45M. A solid debut for a sequel most felt was unnecessary. As a comparison: 2006's 300 which was directed by Man of Steel's Zack Snyder debuted with a record-breaking $70.9 million domestic tally and went on to make $456.1 million worldwide. Could 300: Rise of an Empire fair as well? Probably not. Audiences only gave the film a lackluster 'B' Cinemascore. On a positive note, international markets are turning out in droves for the actioner. It's grossed "$12.1 million from 31 markets in its first two days and placing No. 1 in 29 of those countries." Those numbers have it outpacing 2006's 300 by a healthy 20 percent.

DreamWorks Animation’s Mr. Peabody & Sherman is now on pace for a $30M to $32M weekend. That's a bit off from initial estimates of $35 million. The film got an 'A' CinemaScore from audiences. Peabody opened early in overseas markets and has accumulated $40 million so far. It features a solid voice cast: Ty Burrell, Max Charles, Ariel Winter, Allison Janney, Stephen Colbert, Stephen Tobolowsky, Mel Brooks, Leslie Mann and Stanley Tucci.

Also of note: Liam Neeson's actioner Non-Stop will slide into third with an additional $18M+ weekend (a drop of 37%), which will push its total to somewhere around $55M. The Lego Movie continues to show off its gams with $11.6M, putting it fourth at the domestic box office.

After its victory over Leonidas' 300, the Persian Army under the command of Xerxes marches south towards the major Greek city-states. The Democratic city of Athens, first on the path of Xerxes' army, bases its strength on its fleet, led by admiral Themistocles. Themistocles is forced to an unwilling alliance with the traditional rival of Athens, oligarchic Sparta whose might lies with its superior infantry troops. But Xerxes still reigns supreme in numbers over sea and land.

300: Rise of an Empire - directed by Noam Murro, from a screenplay written by Kurt Johnstad and Zack Snyder. The film stars: Sullivan Stapleton as Themistocles, Eva Green as Artemisia, Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo of Sparta, Rodrigo Santoro as King Xerxes, Hans Matheson as Aeskylos, Andrew Pleavin as Daxos, Callan Mulvey as Scyllias, David Wenham as Dilios, Jack O'Connell as Calisto, Andrew Tiernan as Ephialtes and Yigal Naor as Darius. It will land in theaters March 7th, 2014.

I'm seeing it again in a few hours.

Not bad numbers, especially for an R rated film. Thought 300 was decent, not really interested in seeing this though

Glad Lego Movie is continuing to do well! Still got several countries to open up in, deserves everything it makes. Truly brilliant, great watch! Hoping the Minecraft Movie works as well (definitely will at the B.O, given how huge it is)
JoJo1982 - 3/8/2014, 1:58 AM
Decent flick
Bl00dwerK - 3/8/2014, 2:08 AM
I hope it makes a crapload of money just because Stapleton is in it...
Ceejay - 3/8/2014, 2:38 AM
@Bl00dwerK - I second that, ride it all the way Damien Scott.

Dunno about that top 10 prediction tho, Deadline are never always accurate and even with the Oscar films getting an uplift like 12 Years a Slave etc, I don't see how Ride Along will manage to retain its 10th place while both Robocop and Pompeii slip out. If so then that Kevin Hart flick would have had more staying power than anyone predicted, that's for sure.
SuperCat - 3/8/2014, 2:49 AM
Wow. I'm surprised. Didn't think it would do well.

MexicanSuperman - 3/8/2014, 5:17 AM
I bet Godzillafart is having a heart attack. I'll check this movie out later this week. The movie should make a killing overseas.
MexicanSuperman - 3/8/2014, 5:18 AM
@andrewpanexpress, you are trying to hard.
NemesisEnforcer - 3/8/2014, 5:23 AM
@ Jollem

I've seen floating pieces of sea turtle sh*t that were better developed than Thor 2.
dellamorte1872 - 3/8/2014, 5:31 AM
Snyder didn't even direct this film you should know that if you spout RT crap
dellamorte1872 - 3/8/2014, 5:33 AM
He produced it like anyone would if he didn't someone else woulda be mad at MILLER who wrote this specifically for the screen as a studio mandate bc it'd be taken more seriously if the comic came first
dellamorte1872 - 3/8/2014, 5:33 AM
Miller didn't see a story here and had to grasp at straws to make something outta it
dellamorte1872 - 3/8/2014, 5:34 AM
The studio wanted to cash in the last film over performed that in Hollywood means sequel
Jollem - 3/8/2014, 5:38 AM
@TheRealAquaman - careful. there's a buncha marvel studios racists on this site. they got diapers full of poo and aren't afraid to fling it
sameoldthing - 3/8/2014, 5:44 AM
New 300 movie was great, much like the original.
Real fun R-rated action flick,it's for real men & cool ass chicks not crybaby pussies.

It's not trying to be historically accurate or politically correct..just crazy wild action with sex & violence. Nice!
If your a child or a candy ass..go watch the Lego film.
Jollem - 3/8/2014, 5:45 AM
gilliam is awesome. looking forward to the zero theorem. zack snyder is a genius artist
DrunkenNukem - 3/8/2014, 6:17 AM
@andrew ha

nice try...you are funny...but unoriginal....

You are so unoriginal and lacking of comments that you have to bring RT to back up your "statements"....i would have respect you more if you have said your own opinion about Snyder movies..

But if you just rate movies by RT then you and your kind will never have 1% of my attention

MrSotoMan - 3/8/2014, 6:18 AM
Wow, very shocked it made that type of money.
MrSotoMan - 3/8/2014, 6:19 AM
I love how people wanna call Snyder a hack, yet he's doing what you people on the computer with dirty ass rooms and clothes, food, drinks and chips thrown everywhere, and that is DIRECTING COMIC BOOK MOVIES.

Good or bad, he's still doing them...while getting paid more than you.

*drops the mic*
Ramiel - 3/8/2014, 6:19 AM
Not surprised that Jollem would mention Marvel. If Thor 2 was so bad, then why did it rate the highest 2013 CBM among users on RT, Metacritic, and IMDB? Thor 2 is so bad, that it's outselling Gravity in Blu-Ray/DVD sales.
MrSotoMan - 3/8/2014, 6:22 AM
@TheHeat- People loved Transformers 2 so damn much when it came out, are we going to say it was better than Thor 2 since it had a higher box office?
Jollem - 3/8/2014, 6:24 AM
@TheHeat - i actually haven't seen thor 2 yet. working on it
Omarvls - 3/8/2014, 6:32 AM
The Heat
Yeah but FACTUAL NUMBERS don't matter to DC ONLY fanboys
For them Gal Gadot flexing her skinny arm us bigger news then the GotG trailer

smh lol

Klone - 3/8/2014, 6:37 AM
Lol, haven't seen Thor 2 but this is easily better? At least when I criticized Thor 2 prior to seeing it I saw tons of clips of approximately over half the film.
Klone - 3/8/2014, 6:38 AM
@Omarvls

After watching "Heir of the Demon" I'm even more pissed off about Gadot (Olive Oyl). Meh, she may pull in a good performance and look the role but I am still VERY hesitant.
Ranger14 - 3/8/2014, 6:39 AM
So, making less than 2/3 of the money the opening weekend than the first one did is considered seizing glory? Sure, it's okay money for a film, but the expectations of a sequel are to pull in more money and be more embraced than the first film, especially when it is 8 years later and you have inflation to help boost the numbers. This just indicates that people aren't as interested in this one as the first one.
Klone - 3/8/2014, 6:40 AM
Actual, no, when I think about it I wasn't even criticizing Thor 2 itself. I was only mentioning how I think the film may turn out in full, which was, as I thought, mediocre.
DrunkenNukem - 3/8/2014, 6:40 AM
"Not surprised that Jollem would mention Marvel. If Thor 2 was so bad, then why did it rate the highest 2013 CBM among users"

OK fellas..you wanna play RT game....

2013

Thor 2...audience..81% users

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox..audience..93% users

You are welcome to check it out
