THE STACY FAMILY,
1 YEAR LATER
By Ned Leeds

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the Lizard’s attack on Manhattan and the death of Captain George Stacy, of New York City Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit. Stacy was a decorated police veteran who left behind a loving wife and four children. In this Daily Bugle exclusive we spoke with the Stacy family, Helen, who lost a heroic husband that day, and Gwen, Phillip, Howard, and Simon, who lost their father.

Daily Bugle: Helen, is this a hard anniversary to commemorate?

Helen Stacy: It’s hard to believe George died a year ago. That night, that call, it still hurts as if it happened five seconds ago.

DB: Does your family take any solace that Curt Connors will spend the rest of his life in prison?

Helen Stacy: I think that would have mattered much more to George, just to know Connors is paying for his crimes. He cared very deeply about the law and about justice.

DB: Gwen, your graduation from Midtown Science High School is coming up and you are the valedictorian. How proud would your father have been?

Gwen Stacy: Very proud, I’m sure. (fighting back tears) And nervous for me, and concerned because he wouldn’t want me to be scared. And excited for my future.

DB: Do you ever have any regrets that Spider-Man and your father saved the city but only one of them walked away that night?

Gwen Stacy: I think… (long pause) I think both of them did what they thought needed to be done without regard to the risk. I think both of them were heroes that night. I regret that my dad died, but not at the expense of anyone else.

DB: What about the kids? What do your classmates say about that night?

Simon Stacy: All my friends think that Spidey was totally cool, but that my dad was the coolest!

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx is Electro and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.

@Yoss. F$F 7 is delayed due to the death of The Rock.
MrBatmor - 5/1/2014, 12:58 PM
@captainmurphy I don't think rock is dead...
batz11 - 5/1/2014, 12:58 PM
Ha, ha...gotcha Batmor...I wasn't thrilled with TASM, so guess we'll see...
Dotanuki - 5/1/2014, 12:59 PM
ASM 2 is getting savaged on Rotten Tomatoes...57%. Sheesh.
CinemaHero - 5/1/2014, 1:02 PM
You what I'd like to see? I'd like to see her comment on how her dead-beat boyfriend ditched her during what was probably the most difficult time in her life, as he was trying to respect her father's dying wishes...and then turn around a few days later and completely ignore her father's dying wishes, just making him an unlikable, crappy, dirt bag of a human being.

I've got nothing against Andrew Garfield, 'cause I really like him as an actor and I think he does great in the role.
But whoever wrote those scenes was a friggin moron and it really pisses me off!!
Ok. No more rant. I'll let HISHE take it away.

Marxman12 - 5/1/2014, 1:03 PM
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is now at 58% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ouch.
MrBatmor - 5/1/2014, 1:06 PM
@marxman12 now...now don't bring rotten tomatoes here... Now ask those defending this movie will attack the poor rotten tomatoes ...unless it I tdk or the avengers in which case rt is perfectly fine....

(this comment is for humour purpose and should be taken as such...any damage to a tasm2 lover is not my fault...:P)

Grody to the max.

Rotten tomatoes and Media critic are jokes, as are most "critics" these days. To many cynical douchers, just itching to poo poo on everything.
Andree24 - 5/1/2014, 4:12 PM
It's cool that Amazing Spider-Man 2 honored the comic books with Gwen dying in the film. But her dying in the film just seemed like, a damn shame. This movie is basically like the Man of Steel, in terms of critical reception and fan reception.
HughJasol - 5/1/2014, 5:35 PM
Down to 56% now at RT. I'll still go check this out though.
Irisharmyguy79 - 5/1/2014, 7:45 PM
I just came home from seeing it and let me assure you, it was awesome!! I don't understand where these bad reviews are coming from because it was incredible. The villans were done very well and not right on top of one another like people were saying, the story was deep and detailed and kept you hooked, the action scenes were intense and the special effects were amazing. Nothing looked fake or forced or cheezy. The movie was funny when it needed to be and dramatic when it needed to be and the acting was very good. I honestly left the theater feeling even better about the franchise then I did after the first one. Again whoever saw this earlier and said it sucked obviously went in already with a negative outlook and wanted to find things to complain about. To me overall it wasn't the best comic book kovie Ive ever seen, that still belongs to Batman Begins, Iron Man and the Avengers, but it's pretty darn close! Very good movie and I plan on going to see it again soon!

"Rotten tomatoes and Media critic are jokes, as are most "critics" these days. To many cynical douchers, just itching to poo poo on everything"

lol unless your movie is really good, like say "Captain America: Winter Soldier"
lol

Also, says the guy who on week 2 or 3 after winter Soldier was released, hadn't seen it, and was debating if he should go see Winter Soldier or Transcendence lol He probably hasn't seen Winter soldier yet but he's going to spend 30 bucks on this piece of crap lol
ManCalledSting - 5/1/2014, 7:54 PM
Bender: it warms my heart you care so much. If you're gonna follow my comments, you should try harder. I never debated which of those movies to see, it was which to see first, silly goose. Also, I already said I saw Winter Soldier, and like it. Basically, in your comment, you showed yourself to be a Disney's Marvel Studios fanboy, for what's it matter whether I saw any of those movies you mentioned?
Arrowhead77 - 5/1/2014, 8:33 PM
Holy crap, 72% Rt score the other day, now 56%. Ouch, sucks for CB movies...hope it does well in theaters.
Ranger14 - 5/1/2014, 8:33 PM
"I'm actually confused as to how the movie can be at 57% on rotten tomatoes, but the majority of reviews on this site are giving it 8-9/10. There is a disconnect somewhere."

I'm not sure where that majority is coming from, as I have been seeing a lot of 2-3 out of five star reviews on it here. With the exception of some, most everyone I have heard from that has seen it hasn't cared for it.
ElWoofWoof - 5/1/2014, 9:39 PM
Spoilers:

There were several different endings filmed, including one where the Goblin (Dane DeHaan) snaps Gwen's neck with his bare hands. But this was deemed too violent for a PG-13 rating. A version where the Goblin fatally stabs Gwen was also filmed. Ultimately, both were cut and replaced with the version that is seen in the film, which closely resembles the comic book version of the events

notmuchtotellreally - 5/1/2014, 10:36 PM
I haven't seen winter soldier because I'm not a Captain America fan. Simple as that. I however, will see this masterpiece tomorrow!!!!!!

Jaspion - 5/2/2014, 12:26 AM
Guys, go watch it. I had low expectations but I was very surprised.

I guess I can say it's the best Spidey movie for me now.. gonna watch one more time. Harry Osborn was the best thing in the movie.

Still prefer Cap 2 though.
Marxman12 - 5/2/2014, 12:34 AM
Man, why can't people admit TASM and TASM 2 are subpar? EVERYONE, even the positive reviews, say the film is "meh" and redundant. It shows some improvement from it's predecessor but that's not really saying much.
dadisatish - 5/2/2014, 3:05 AM
dont listen to critics....what's happening to critics these days??? i dont understand ....and some people just follow them blindly.....i mean what happened to ur opinion man??....movie was incredible.....much better than cheap cap2......dont miss it.....
TexasTwoFace - 5/2/2014, 3:52 AM
Very disappointed in TASM 2.
Praetorian - 5/2/2014, 1:54 PM
I would've respected Peter so much more if he'd kept his promise and actually gave a shit about the whole "responsibility" thing
