Dark Knight Rises, Avengers, and Prometheus were the three best films of the year thus far. The rest have been ok (i.e. Expendables 2, Men in Black 3) or very disappointing (i.e. Ghost Rider 2, The Amazing Spider-Man, Hunger Games)

I loved Spidey. I chose Rises though I hated Ghost Rider. I'm not trying to instigate a war. Just my honest opinion. I knew Rider would be terrible though I hoped otherwise. And MIB3 was terrible but I didn't like the second one so I expected not to like this one. Rises had too many flaws. If Bane hadn't been neutered I would have probably chosen MIB3... Again, just my opinion.
nailbiter111 - 8/20/2012, 7:41 PM
I voted Dark Shadows. I thought it would at least be slightly above average, and with an opening scene that had so much potential, I was caught completely off guard by how INSANELY AWFUL it was. it was embarrassing on so many levels.
Super12 - 8/20/2012, 7:42 PM
I voted The Amazing Spider-man, but Hunger Games was a bit disappointing as well. I did t read the books so I expected something incredible what with all the hooplah about it
SiriusC - 8/20/2012, 7:44 PM
I was gonna vote for Ghost Rider b/c I was expecting a dark, bad ass movie. But it became pretty clear well before it opened that it was gonna be another flop.

TDKR is, by far, the most disappointing. Great cast, great director, great score, great EVERYTHING. But it wasn't a great Batman movie.
nailbiter111 - 8/20/2012, 7:44 PM
Damn it now that I think about I should've vote Prometheus. I had high expectations and that was god awful.
xXkryptoniteXx - 8/20/2012, 7:49 PM
There are 79 People hating on TDKR

I think John carter was the most disappointing flop in financially but it was a good movie.
Ghost rider was the most disappointing, I thought it would be better then the first, and when the first is better then the 2nd, then it is just bad.
Billium3 - 8/20/2012, 7:52 PM
I thought Amazing Spider-Man was God-awful. I saw TDKR which was nearly 3 hours and didn't really notice. However, Spidey was what, 2 hours or so, and it felt even longer than TDKR! I kept asking myself "Is it over yet?" and was never more thankful than when it finally reached its conclusion.
TheBaroness89 - 8/20/2012, 7:54 PM
Guys seriously? there are actually votes for TDKR and Avengers with all the disappointing crap on that list ?
Time to get over the Marvelite/Nolanite war already cuz if you feel Avengers or TDKR were disappointing in comparison to Abe Lincoln,John Carter and Ghost Rider you should have your head examined and your comic books burned in front of you while you are strapped to a chair.
calciferboheme - 8/20/2012, 7:55 PM
I liked all the movies on the list that I saw.

But I think that Prometheus was the most disappointing of them. While I really enjoyed most of it, it just didn't live up to what I wanted.

A lot of that was probably my own fault. Ridley Scott doing Science Fiction again after 30 years had me so excited that when it didn't live up to Alien or Blade Runner, I was massively let down.

John Carter would probably be second. I had fun, but still felt it could have been better.
nonserviam - 8/20/2012, 7:58 PM
GI Joe Retaliation for b1tch1ng out and claiming "3d filming."
enggarb - 8/20/2012, 8:01 PM
I vote John Carter. It's an ambitious film by Disney with budget $ 250 Million and only grossing around $282 million. A big disappointment for Disney. But thanks to The Avengers which has been recovered this loss for Disney.
And personally, i expect more from John Carter.
Robert - 8/20/2012, 8:02 PM
Ghost Rider sucked! The Avengers and Batman film were the best of the summer flicks.
halvor311 - 8/20/2012, 8:04 PM
How on Earth can The Hunger Games have been disappointing?? That was the best movie of the year, not the most entertaining, but definitely the best in feel, scope, and seriousness of the project. To me Ghost Rider is easily the most disappointing, even though I loved it and still do, there were a lot of problems with the movie and there was no real excuse for it.
mctrinket - 8/20/2012, 8:04 PM
TDKR was disappointing.
DaRaginScotsman - 8/20/2012, 8:05 PM
I voted The Bourne Legacy. I had high hopes for the film cuz I like Jeremy Renner and was feeling really good about it when watching, but the ending just left me hanging.
darklydreamingdexter - 8/20/2012, 8:05 PM
everyone saying TDKR or Avengers is a troll. Really? ghost rider was better? or for that fact John Carter? get real. Im a die hard DC/Batman fan, but the Avengers was f'n awesome. i dont think for a minute that the Justice League will even come close to that kind of magic
deanwilkins - 8/20/2012, 8:07 PM
Rises had the most potential. For failing to achieve it or even be a Batman film, I stand by my earlier comments. And I do have literally hundreds of Batman comics. Maybe more than any other title so I am entitled to not like it. Bring on the reboot.
SiriusC - 8/20/2012, 8:11 PM
Judging by the comments (darklydreamingdexter, Robert, TheBaroness89, some others) it seems like a lot of people aren't getting the concept of this poll. It's not whether a movie was good or bad.
0bstreperous - 8/20/2012, 8:18 PM
Rises sucked that tragedy obscured it in a way that we wont be able to get honest opinions for a long time it was as lame as superman returns
With the same pretentious air

I was in the damn movie(read my article) and I hated it
RedeyeJedi - 8/20/2012, 8:19 PM
I'm with SiriusC on this one. It's not a good film vs bad film poll. It's asking which film you were more let down by in terms of your own anticipation. I vote TDKR.
Spidey31 - 8/20/2012, 8:22 PM
Yea it's not about which movie was bad, it's about which movie you were disappointed in. For example, if you were hating on a movie before it was released and you said you were disappointed by it then it doesn't really make sense becasue you never really thought it was gonna be good anyways. Your expectations were low when you came in and you left feeling the same becasue maybe you're just close minded.
RedeyeJedi - 8/20/2012, 8:24 PM
@darklydreamingdexter- There was nothing disappointing about Ghost Rider. It sucked every bit as hard as I was expecting it to.
chikeizelcav - 8/20/2012, 8:25 PM
GHOST RIDER 2 THEEEEE WORST CBM EVER PERIOD
fanboy03191 - 8/20/2012, 8:25 PM
The top three superhero films(The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises) all pleased me greatly, as a fan of the characters. I enjoyed the Hunger Games, though I haven't read the books. Prometheus was just okay, but not what I expected, and the mystery of the Space Jockey really kind of ruined the awesomeness of the concept. But all in all, this was a great year for films.
CBMFANATIC1988 - 8/20/2012, 8:31 PM
TDKR siderman and avengers and hunger games r thee best movies of the year!!!!!! Hunger games isnt as good as TDKR or spiderman it is still better than the avengers personally. And haters that troll about the TDKR it is nolans best movie thus far
RedeyeJedi - 8/20/2012, 8:33 PM
@killerkooljames- Holy shit dude, calm down.
TheRationalOne - 8/20/2012, 8:36 PM
I expected WAY more from Dark Knight Rises and it didn't deliver so I voted that. Avengers exceeded expectations, as did Spider-Man. I knew GR would suck, and none of the other ones I really had expectations of at all. I saw Total Recall last night and thought it was pretty damn good...except for that annoying glare effect that got put on in post. Stupid lens flares going straight across the screen in 75% of the scenes is NOT the business. Otherwise, I highly enjoyed it.

PS: Hunger Games licked balls. I saw it in theaters and wished I'd walked out. Completely ridiculous movie.
SunSp0t - 8/20/2012, 8:36 PM
Ghost Rider wasnt a disapointment because I knew it was going to be crap lol. TDKR was the biggest disapointment imo. @Killerkooljames: Simmer down NOLANITE!!!
super01 - 8/20/2012, 8:36 PM
hated ghost rider, just hated it! was impressed with the spidey movie either (actually had to fight to stay awake during first half) wish I'd slept through the entire ghost rider movie though. It was awful!!!
nailbiter111 - 8/20/2012, 8:37 PM
TDKR keeps getting better each time I see it. I think some of you need to see it again. a lot of my initial complaints have melted away the more I've viewed it.
super01 - 8/20/2012, 8:38 PM
oops, meant to say wasn't impressed with the spider man reboot either. Hated Ghost Rider: sov!!
TheRationalOne - 8/20/2012, 8:40 PM
Killerkooljames - Shut up bro. You sound like a Matthew Modine right now. And clearly you're in the minority since its the second highest voted movie on the list. What a tool.
OwenWilsonsNose - 8/20/2012, 8:41 PM
Prometheus was garbage. Completely lacking in anything remotely resembling coherency. A massive disappointment on every level. The Avengers was stellar, and TDKR was even more so. TDKR is easily the best movie of the summer.
TheRationalOne - 8/20/2012, 8:44 PM
TDKR had far too many plot holes, and some of them were so on the surface that it stuns me that Nolan, being the incredible director that he is, didn't catch them. Talia felt like an afterthought addition, and in adding her, completely disavowed Banes entire origin. John Blake being Robin/Nightwing/Batman/whoever kinda felt forced too. I thought it was cool, but at the same time, pretty unnecessary. I also felt like Nolan really doesn't understand the character of Bruce Wayne/Batman as much as he seemed to in the others. I might just be being nitpicky, but for as much as I loved it and would watch it over and over again, I can think of reason after reason that it just wasn't as good as we had all hoped.

My opinion. Don't get all upset. (killerkool...i'm talkin to you).
SunSp0t - 8/20/2012, 8:48 PM
@Ripynt - Completely agree, well said.
DrDoom - 8/20/2012, 8:49 PM
Amazing Spider-Man by a mile.
deadpool123 - 8/20/2012, 8:50 PM
Batleship was a piece of shit
Asterisk - 8/20/2012, 8:51 PM
Spider-Man. I liked it though.
Cosmo - 8/20/2012, 8:51 PM
With the spirit of the poll in mind, it's Dark Shadows for me. Had hoped for a good movie, got "eh" instead. TDKR was what I thought it would be, Avengers was above what I thought it would be, and a lot of the movies on the list I didn't see, so can't rightfully comment. Battleship? Seriously? NOT wasting my dough there.
JaySin420 - 8/20/2012, 8:51 PM
Definitely TDKR.....and to those complaining, this isn't about which movies are better it's about which was the most disappointing.

Yea, movies like Ghost Rider and John Carter were terrible, but its about expectations.
Misterfan - 8/20/2012, 8:51 PM
i felt it was Dark Shadows, expected so much but got too little, like way too little tsk tsk!
TheRationalOne - 8/20/2012, 8:53 PM
I actually thought Battleship was better than I had thought it would be. It wasn't great, but I had super low expectations and it actually exceeded them.
TheRationalOne - 8/20/2012, 8:54 PM
I also downloaded Battleship, so its easier to enjoy something you didn't spend a dime on.
TheRationalOne - 8/20/2012, 8:55 PM
SunSpot - Glad somebody is with me there.
HoneyBadgerDontCare - 8/20/2012, 8:59 PM
I voted for Prometheus. Not because it's the worst movie listed, it's not, but because I was expecting it to be so much better.
Maximus101 - 8/20/2012, 9:02 PM
Man there are a lot of marvel and dc fanboys on here, the avengers and TDKR should have no votes at all. Seriously look at that list, how could you vote for either of those when half those movie were clearly shit and very dissapointing.
TheAbomination - 8/20/2012, 9:05 PM
Lol I love how TDKR has more votes than the Avengers. You can tell there's a lot of Marvelites on this site.
PeterDarker121 - 8/20/2012, 9:06 PM
Of the films I was REALLLY hyped for but felt let down by, it was a close call between TASM and TDKR. The reason I chose TASM was because ultimately, I felt mislead somehow. After seeing it, I felt that this 'untold' backstory hype was nothing more than a cheap plot device to introduce Oscorp in this rebooted series as a stable for The Lizard and future Spidey movie villains. Effects? Top notch. Acting? Great all-around. Am I hopeful for the sequels? Yes...but I'm not waiting on pins and needles.
