Universal Secures Rights To Anne Rice's VAMPIRE CHRONICLES

It seems we're in for another big-screen vamp saga, but this time it'll be adapted from a series of (for the most part) great novels. Universal will reboot Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on board as producers. Click on for more..

After the great Interview With The Vampire (1994) was followed by the not-so-great Queen Of The Damned (2002), no further novels in Anne Rice's saga were adapted for the screen. But now Universal Pictures has acquired movie rights to "The Vampire Chronicles" for Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment, and will presumably be rebooting the series starting with the first novel. It seems the ever present Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are on board to produce too. The "Vampire Chronicles" consists of: Interview with the Vampire (1976) The Vampire Lestat (1985), The Queen of the Damned (1988), The Tale of the Body Thief (1992), Memnoch the Devil (1995), The Vampire Armand (1998), Merrick (2000), Blood and Gold (2001), Blackwood Farm (2002), Blood Canticle (2003) and the upcoming Prince Lestat. Be sure to share your thoughts and give us your casting suggestions for Louie, Lestat, Armand and the rest of the melancholy bunch of bloodsuckers in the usual place.

Pasto - 8/8/2014, 6:11 AM
One thing in life that we will always need: Vampires.
vinomonster - 8/8/2014, 6:14 AM
Interview with a Vampire was a good movie until Twilight came and destroyed the whole genre.
MsDarkPhoenix - 8/8/2014, 6:14 AM

Anna Rice's novels are great, but isn't the vampire craziness over yet?
ComicsBornAndBred - 8/8/2014, 6:14 AM
Oh god Orci and Kurtzman. Here to ruin another franchise. First Amazing Spiderman, Transformers and Star Trek and now this
TheDudeRusty - 8/8/2014, 6:16 AM
Make American Vampire rather or Vampirella.
DylansMyDog - 8/8/2014, 6:17 AM
Nope. Anne Rice started the watering down of vampires. They used to be horrifying monsters, now they are basically just pretty immortal people and not scary in the least.
WhenTheyRise - 8/8/2014, 6:18 AM
Interview was great. The cast also made it memorable as well. Kirsten Dunst shined in her best performance to date IMHO. Let us hope that they manage to bring the same or better quality in each of the stories listed above. I'll be most interested in Memnoch the Devil. Hope they do not water any of them down much.
Should be fun if done right, and decent counter programming to supers if taken seriously.

Vampire movies are usually pretty terrible. The only one I like is The Lost Boys.
vinomonster - 8/8/2014, 6:25 AM
@WhenTheyRise They made a sequel which is Queen of the Damned I find it utterly bad. Haha Yes indeed Interview with a Vampire is a good movie its not cheesy like the recent vampire films and tv series (except The Strain by Guillermo del Toro)
CherryBomb - 8/8/2014, 6:26 AM
I LOVED Interview with a Vampire, one of my all time favourites.

Ah, that film was so good :( how can you reboot Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst?!?
TheAmarilloBlack - 8/8/2014, 6:27 AM
Nothing will ever top Interview (unless there's a return to practical effects). Kurtzman and Orci have their work cut out for them.

HINT:
Have Cruiser reprise the role of Lestat before it's too late.
CherryBomb - 8/8/2014, 6:27 AM
There was some exceptional acting in Interview, hope they get some equally talented actors and actresses to fill the roles.
vinomonster - 8/8/2014, 6:30 AM
As long as they dont cast Kristen Stewart, Robert Patterson and the like I would be so happy. I just hope the dont [frick]ed up the series.
ICEMAN5151 - 8/8/2014, 6:32 AM
AGREED CHERRY, EVEN THOUGH I CAN'T STAND CRUISE I LOVED THE LESTAT ROLE.
THE BOOKS ARE ALL GREAT.
aveune - 8/8/2014, 6:33 AM
When they do the movies it's needs to be rated R... I know they won't but I'm just hoping
Gusto - 8/8/2014, 6:34 AM

Batz is a vampire.

Love the books, its about time for a proper reboot.
make the series and right universal!!!

queen of the damned is one of the worst adaptations ever put to screen
Carl - 8/8/2014, 6:37 AM
@cherry
lestat was portrayed much better by stewart townsend.
just in a shit movie
Tetrahedron - 8/8/2014, 6:40 AM
Can Robero Orci just [frick] off and die already!?
MiracleMe - 8/8/2014, 6:40 AM
Kurtzman and Orci!! Great! I am anxiously and actively NOT waiting for this.
AmatsuMikaboshi - 8/8/2014, 6:45 AM
I DONT CARE ABOUT THIS,JUST GIMMME MOOOOORE MARVEL NEEEEEEWS !
fortycals - 8/8/2014, 6:47 AM
How do you reboot interview. There is no possible way to make it better. Just chalk up qotd as a loss, and continue with the the body thief, and stop at Merrick. Merrick was the last good book, imo. Bring on the witches.
fettastic - 8/8/2014, 6:48 AM
I only read the first book. As I recall it was pretty much exactly like the movie but with some extra scenes. I don't know how they could improve on it.

Oh shit! They are SO GONNA HIRE ROBERT PATTINSON!

CherryBomb - 8/8/2014, 6:48 AM
Jared Leto for Lestat!

fortycals - 8/8/2014, 6:48 AM
Only thing good about qotd was the soundtrack.
CherryBomb - 8/8/2014, 6:51 AM
Robert Pattison is actually a good actor in the right role!
So I'd happily see him as Louis!

Or maybe Kit Harrington or Nicholas Hoult perhaps?
muttonman - 8/8/2014, 6:52 AM
I read the first 5 books about 12 years ago and I always wondered why the studios didn't cash in on the vampire craze a few years ago... might be too late now... Regardless, heres to hoping that these come out better than QotD...
RetroFit - 8/8/2014, 6:53 AM
Do Orci and Kurtzman have pictures in a vault of every single studio head in Hollywood having relations with goats? Because I do not understand how they keep getting handed franchise after franchise, only to ruin every single one of them. I do not understand! They're horrible hacks!
TankD - 8/8/2014, 6:56 AM
@forty stupid forty is stupid and korn sucks duude.
pepe - 8/8/2014, 6:59 AM
I want Blade.... Del Toro should direct again...
monsterswin - 8/8/2014, 7:01 AM
Yawn...........tortured vampires. Whatever happened to Nosferatu just kicking the shit out of people and terrorizing everyone including the audience? Ann Rice, blah.
dnno1 - 8/8/2014, 7:07 AM
Universal has always been known as the house for monster genre. That's why they grabbed up the film rights for The Hulk initially. Now it looks like the want to reconstitute their monster film library again.
Darlene1974 - 8/8/2014, 7:16 AM
Looking forward to them all!!!! .... very exciting news!!!.... thanks for sharing!!!!....
Maia87 - 8/8/2014, 7:20 AM
Are Kurtzman and Orci the only people in Hollywood?
MarkV - 8/8/2014, 7:23 AM
"Oh god Orci and Kurtzman. Here to ruin another franchise"

hahaha!!!!
Snotzo - 8/8/2014, 7:24 AM
I thought the whole vampire craze was dead, but apparently it's undead. Amirite...?
ShelfPorn - 8/8/2014, 7:41 AM
Kristen Stewart for Lestat and Robert Pattinson for Louie.
