Sam Worthington To Star In Mad Max 4?

Just the other day we reported via E!Online that Tom Hardy looked likely to replace Mel Gibson in the new Max movie. Weeeeeell....
According to Australia's The Daily Telegraph, the new movie will be called Mad Max: Fury Road and will begin filming immediately in Sydney...and star ol Whispery Worthington! They report that Charlize Theron is still on board as the female lead.

This is a big coincidence, as the Worthinites(people that cast Sam in every upcoming movie) were only calling for him to play Max on the last article! Well, folks you may get your wish. At least we wont have to worry about his American accent eh.

Nothing is confirmed either way of course, but if it did come down to Hardy or Worthington, who would you rather see go mental in the desert?

And lets not forget, Charlize Theron may also be in it:)

I kinda thought this would happen.....like you said at least the role requires an accent he can do lol and its not as if thr role requires alot of dialogue so theres another up for Unworthington :)

Still excited about another Mad Max movie tho :P
teabag - 10/24/2009, 7:04 AM
According to miller it is going into pre-production but filming is scheduled for august! Hope its good!
wards - 10/24/2009, 7:21 AM
If Harrison Ford can still play Indiana Jones, Mel Gibson can still swing Mad Max...

Okay maybe that is a bad idea.

I don't care for Worthington, but I can actually see him in this as the title role.
TheMyth - 10/24/2009, 7:21 AM
I just watched the first Mad Max the other day and though it's not a masterpiece by any means it is enjoyable!I think if they are gonna go with an aussie actor then eric bana should do it, I'm not too keen on tom hardy for it
FORTAPACHE - 10/24/2009, 7:27 AM
Happy Saturday, friends.

Man what is it with this guy? He's everywhere these days. He is like THE go to guy for a generic action hero role lately.

haha @ Teabag: UNWorthington? Nice. why?
I honestly barely noticed him in Terminator. I saw the "he's a robot" thing coming six months before the movie came out. Other than that, his voice wasn't very commanding. He came across as kind of tough. But not memorably so really.
Does anyone besides Mr. LEEE think this dude is a good actor?
DarthMulder - 10/24/2009, 7:41 AM
Nope mate, he is just flavour of the month for some reason!
FORTAPACHE - 10/24/2009, 7:43 AM
I think people just assume he must be good because he has been cast in some big movies..the fact that no one has seen them yet doesn't seem to deter them! Hey he could be great in em, I'm just going by what I have seen already, which is Terminator, and in which, he was not so great.
RorMachine - 10/24/2009, 8:03 AM
tom hardy aint right for it though!either is mr. worthinghton!what do you make to eric bana for the rolrthoughyay or nay?
FORTAPACHE - 10/24/2009, 8:12 AM
that last
post didn't make sense!what do you reckon as eric bana for mad max Ror?
FORTAPACHE - 10/24/2009, 8:18 AM
I think Bana is a great actor, and would be better than either of em! Unfortunately, he seems content to make rom coms these days
RorMachine - 10/24/2009, 8:21 AM
which is a real pity!I wanna see Chopper go nuts again!

FORTAPACHE - 10/24/2009, 8:29 AM
Worthington is a great actor. Best choice for the role of Max after Gibson. Hardy would be a great to see as that vicious bad guy (That Vernon Wells type of baddie from the Road Warrior).
AlexDeLarge666 - 10/24/2009, 8:38 AM
Tom Hardy all the way, i like Worthington but if any of you guys have seen Hardy in anything you'd realise he is the superior actor, he is one of the best actors out there today. No Joke. Hardy for Mad Max the guy needs a role like this.
Ryden - 10/24/2009, 8:41 AM
FORTAPACHE-- Dude, Chopper was epic! That one really put Bana on the map for me. Was that his first movie?

It looks like Hardy was in a "Chopper" like role with "Bronson". I haven't seen it but I know the story and it's a heavy one so the guy has to be a great actor. He would definitely own the role but I think Worthington would do a fine job as well. He's Australian and he looks and acts the part. Plus Mad Max is probably like the Aussy Captain America so an Aussy must play him. Honestly, were there any well known Australian movies before Mad Max?
Betty - 10/24/2009, 9:05 AM
How much does anyone want to bet that a Captain America discussion will ensue at any moment?

It always does when any article so much as mentions Ol' Whispery Worthington ;)

InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/24/2009, 9:08 AM
i love his username ^^
FrankCastle1 - 10/24/2009, 9:25 AM
i really like worthington in terminator, and i cant wait to see him in his next movie, and i think he would make a wicked C A,
sorry @ in tyler we trust82

but it simply is not worth making another mad max with out mel gibson, its one of the stupidest idea ive ever heard, its mels charactor, lie stallone and rambo and rocky, harrsion and han solo and I jones,

i am ushally end up watching every thing, but with out mel its not mad max.
Rolanddeschain19 - 10/24/2009, 9:31 AM
I just read that Sam Worthington is also up for the roles of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Shrek, Wolverine, The Green and Grey Hulk, President Obama and Snarf from Thunder Cats. Is there anything this guy can't do?!?!
imnotwearinghockeypants - 10/24/2009, 9:34 AM
by the way did mad max ever get made into a comic book, not bitching about the articale, just curios
Rolanddeschain19 - 10/24/2009, 9:34 AM
imnotwearinghockeypants: Don't forget he'll be Lion-O in the new Thundercats movie, which was for some reason re-named Avatar ;) BAZING!

InTylerWeTrust82--That last comment, awesome.
Betty - 10/24/2009, 10:29 AM
Why does anyone care if something is specifically comic book movie related? CBM is the umbrella under which everything that interests people like us resides, including: movies, games, sci-fi, cartoons, horror, smallville (groan), specific actors & actresses, things that are hilarious, boobs, and yes comics themselves.

What's the big deal. We're all friends and our interests are all related.
Betty - 10/24/2009, 10:35 AM
Betty-bingo!yeah it's a good article so no bitching please!!!this site updates me on a ton of things so I keep on it!

RedSkull@, Ha ha ha ha ha!
That manip is rich!!!! LMAO

Let's all of us on CBM write
a comic book movie script
together and have Unworthington,
Ryan Reynolds, JDM and Gerard
Butler star in all the rolls....
....NOT!

Geez, Worthington is one of the
most unlikely, weak-voiced, shrimpy
action actors ever! Too bad all the
REAL action stars are all getting so
long in the tooth 'cause there's
hardly any new REAL action stars
nowadays!

There is NO WAY Worthlessington is any
kind of commanding tough guy and NO WAY
is he Mad Max! Damm this gives me a
headache!!!

RedSkull: No problem, but that's really cool that one of your Ackles manips got onto that site! I really like the ones where you use Cap toys with Ackles head, they always look really cool and they fit together greatly!

DDD: Ryan Reynolds - All the Justice League members

JDM: All the Avengers

Gerard Butler: All the CBM villains

Whispery Worthington: All the second-rate female CBM characters ;)

FORTAPACHE - 10/24/2009, 11:36 AM
Worthington for Captain Australia with his mighty Boomerangs of Doom!

Don't let him get too close, he might use his deadly Whisper of Death!
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/24/2009, 11:37 AM
LEE: There you are, lol! What are these "bum boi" movies you're talking about? Because with a whispering soft voice like wimpy Worthingtons's, he'd be the perfect choice for those type of movies (whatever the hell they are!)
JoshW - 10/24/2009, 11:38 AM
Ya know, Chris Hemsworth is a more likely Mad Max!
He's Australian and everything! He's one of the few
new action actors that actually fits the bill as
an actual ACTION STAR!

And he can do an American
accent very well even tho' he's an Auzzie! Now he
DOES have a commanding voice! He's the only Auzzie
I know of who could actually play Cap America, unlike
a certain whispery fella from Ozland!
DDD - 10/24/2009, 11:50 AM
DDD gets the Unworthington credit lol

Doctor Digderidoo hasnt a chance againt Captain Australia :)

DDD - 10/24/2009, 11:59 AM
OK Let me start by saying Charlize Theron is hot. I'm new here and I've enjoyed reading everyone's responses for a long time! I'm glad i finally was able to get signed up. I personaly think the Mad Max trilogy was one of the best SciFi trilogies made. It showed the decline and rise of civilization over the span of many years and did it succesfully. The movies flowed. I have to admit I didn't like the kid thing in the third movie but it was easily overlooked. Mel Gibson could easily pull off a 4th if it was written right.
montana2rice1990 - 10/24/2009, 11:59 AM
eric bana would be a great mad max!not hardy or worthington!

DDD - 10/24/2009, 12:11 PM
On a seperate note, i watched Wolverine last night for the first time since seeing iot when it came out and its not too bad. I think the Deadpool stuff is obviously the worst part of the movie and the pacing can be a little off at times but overall its not the worst CBM ever (but far from the best!)

Without a doubt though, Gavin Hood shouldnt return (and in an ideal world neither would the botox filled face of Shuler Donner) - I couldnt believe it when watching the special features that they referred to Emma Frost as "diamond girl" and Hood praised the actress' great American accent...Frost is British!!!

Hugh Jackman and Liev Schrieber are the only ones who should return! And they need a new CGI team - some of the stuff was awful! Anyway, sorry for the rant but i couldnt be bothered to wrote a full review, lol! :)
JoshW - 10/24/2009, 12:14 PM
I hear ya josh!wolvie got me into reading comic books/graphic novels(I still like Havok and Wolverine) and dreamed of a day when I could see that on screen and the buggers let me down!I hope the next one is better!

Dr. Didgeridoo, ha!

Yeah! I'd like to beat off in Worthington's ass too! uhm what?
Betty - 10/24/2009, 12:38 PM
Redskull@ hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE IT!
DDD - 10/24/2009, 12:50 PM
FORTAPACHE: Yeah, tell me about it! God, the claws in the bathroom scene looked so fake you'd think an amatuer did the CGI on the movie! The helicopter crash was good...apart from the fact you could see the dummy flopping about in the seat rather than an actor CGI'd in, lol! Maybe the blu-ray just shows the details so much better but the CGI was a big let down in places! Interesting Cap choice by the way! :)

RedSkullGeezer: Hahaha, hilarious!!! Keep 'em coming man! :D
JoshW - 10/24/2009, 12:56 PM
Tom Hardy all the way, Sam Worthington is Captain Joe Average. At least Hardy looks like he's ready to throw it down, plus he is the far supierior actor. Bana would also be a badass pick for the role.
theFACE - 10/24/2009, 1:40 PM
NO MEL NO MAX!!!11!!!!!1
MarkV - 10/24/2009, 1:54 PM
If worthington does get the role at least we wont have to put up with an inconsistant/shite accent! He can use his natural shite aussie accent!
wards - 10/24/2009, 1:58 PM
Welcome Montana :)

Red Skull lmao

Josh@ Wolverine is better the second time cus expectations are low and you know its as faithful as prince charles....take that knowledge and you can enjoy the film for entertainment value :)

DDD@ Were gonna have to start a universe of characters :)
teabag - 10/24/2009, 2:59 PM
Josh: I agree dude. I enjoyed Wolverine, it was fun and entertaining. I felt that all the acting was great though (except maybe Silver Fox and Wraith, but I don't think they were awful per say), Schreiber, Jackman, Huston, Reynolds (regardless of the raping of Deadpool at the end, he was awesome in the beginning), Dominic Monaghan (wasted so much potential when they killed him), and Durand. The pacing and CGI was what fell apart IMO. It felt way too rushed and choppy, and the CGI was absolutely dreadful at times.

On a different note, I just watched "The End" episode of Supernatural Season 5, and it was fantastic! One of the best episodes ever man! It also gave me even more assurance that Ackles is Captain America, no doubt!

I am also happy to see the new lack of Whispery Worthington, UnWorthington, Worthlessington, what have you, supporters. It seems he's not that popular of a choice for Cap anymore, and rightfully so! Maybe this is why Lee has been switching to the Leonardo Dicaprio fort lately...
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/24/2009, 3:06 PM
Tyler@ i swear the new Avatar trailer had something to do with that....couldnt actualy beleive how monatoned and auzzie his voice was :)
teabag - 10/24/2009, 3:08 PM
Honestly Harder deserves it after his performance in Bronson. I think hes a great actor and would love to see him in more. But, I think he would play a great villain in mad max too. Im just not sure if Worthington has the acting chops. We really havent seen him in much. Hes got the hero look, and he did well in salvation. Lets see what happens.
theartofoneness - 10/24/2009, 3:09 PM
teabag: Tell me about it dude! He switched from full on Aussie to bad American accent more times in those 3 minutes than in the entire run-time of Terminator, and THAT'S saying something!

The dude does not know how to convey emotion in his voice, because he can only barely hide the accent if he whispers!
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/24/2009, 3:16 PM
Wolverine:Destroy-our-hope-igins was utter trill...... Sbertooth was well acted but looked and felt nothing like the Sabertooth that we initially hoped for . But since we basically had a smooth and hardly feral "Logan" ... well what did we expect. I am sick of "adaptions" Pure $hit!

Ya know it sucked cuz we all have some major problems with it... and there can never be a serious conversation about that movie without discussing just how bad "a lot" of things were. Its a shame really.
shibazz - 10/24/2009, 3:21 PM
teabag: Funnily enough, I did actually enjoy it - there were some great moments (the opening intro was almost as good as Watchmen IMO!) and when you take away the things they did wrong from a comic book fans POV, then its an enjoyable movie! Oh, and you were right about the deleted memory scene being much better!

TYLER: Yeah, the acting was pretty good all round (especially Reynolds) but it was Jackson and Schreiber's performances that really stood out for me, although Reynolds just used this movie to prove what an amazing Deadpool he'll make! The guy who played Gambit wasnt awful but his accent should have been stronger and I dont like the way in which they showed his powers. The movie is still one of the better Fox CBM's I think anyway! And yeah, that Supernatural episode was awesome and as you rightly said, proof that Ackles is the best choice for Captain America!
JoshW - 10/24/2009, 3:23 PM
The Sabertooth in Origins was a welcome deviation from the comics IMO. He was sadistic, but had an air of cunning and intelligence about him, it made him a much better character I thought.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/24/2009, 3:28 PM
Josh@ Yeah at least with the deleted scene they dont just presume a bullet would delete his memory :)
teabag - 10/24/2009, 3:39 PM
Worthington nah his not a leading man i would go with someone else that could do action
flames809 - 10/24/2009, 4:47 PM
I´m sorry everybody but i still think Worthington is a very potential actor for the role of Max. Although he has chosen very functional roles in the near future. But i dont blame him.

Oh yeah. And Mr. T for Cap. I pity the commie fool.
montana2rice1990 - 10/24/2009, 9:06 PM
I can take or leave Worthington in general; the guy has yet to impress me. As for Max; I can understand they are trying to set him up as a Bond-like series (One character played by many actors), but I really wish Miller would find a new less over exposed Aussie actor to fill Mel's dingo boots.

Truth be told, I wouldn't even mind seeing Mel come back, but I don't think he and Miller are on good terms anymore which is more the pity since the guys made each other’s careers.

As for Bana, I loved the guy in Chopper. He was batshit and awesome in that one. Rather than seeing him as Max, I'd love to see him play a very eccentric Aussie centric villain... A post Apocalyptic Mark "Chopper" Read of sorts… that could be cool.

Should be Gibson with some form of resolution. He lives, he dies, he saves humanity, he doesn't, he goes back and finds Tina Turner and does a musical duet of What's Love Got To Do With It. Something that ends his story at least before they "reboot" or whatever.
TonyPaintball - 10/25/2009, 3:37 PM
Damn there are some ignoramuses in here.
A lot of you seem to think that Terminator 4 was Worthington's first and only role. The guy was an award winning actor before he left for the states. Maybe step outside the multiplex for 2 hours every now and then.

As for no good Australian movies being made before Mad Max...you have to be kidding..

I read somewhere that Worthington was up for the role of Jansen's Ankles in Captain America.
Skyh00k - 10/26/2009, 5:23 AM
I would like to see either guy as Mad Max, they both have that rugid quiet appeal that Mel Gibson used to have pre-Leathal-Weapon and pre-drunken-ranting-about-how-Jews-are-ruining-the-world.
Worthington may have a heads up for being pretty recognizable from his part in Terminator Salvation. Both guys very capable of playing a hard ass character like Mad Max. Mad Max and Road Warrior are two of some of my favorite movies. Beyond Thunderdome wasn't horrible like everybody makes it out to be. I don't think it was good as the first two and that's why everybody shits on it.
Regardless Mad Max is one of those characters you can't do a bad casting of and let the script carry the role because you have to believe the [frick]er will steal your shit by just looking at him or it won't work.
