Could We See Arnie In "Predators"?

Apparently Robert Rodriguez is eager to get the Governator back on board the franchise..
Total Film reports that Rodriguez’ team have reached out to Arnies people in a bid to have him reprise his role as Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer in a cameo.

But (thank God!) this wont be a remake/reboot/reimagining...“They’ve written a role for him,” a second source tells the site. “Rodriguez is as against the idea of a straight-up remake as much as anyone – which is why they’re considering this an official sequel to John McTiernan’s film. Like Terminator, they know Schwarzenegger’s a vital ingredient of the franchise. Ideally, Arnold will see it that way too. Ball is in his court now”.

Sounds like a good idea, its a great way to tie this movie directly with the original and maybe erase some of the memories of the AVP movies from peoples minds. It will be interesting to see how they bring Dutch back into the story too.

Smolo - 6/4/2009, 5:41 AM
Hey,,, RODRIGUEZ is the man!!! Yeah F'k them REBOOTS/REMAKES!!! Best news for a long time!!! Hopefully ROBOCOP and THE CROW will go the same way!!!

Cool news RORSCH @ !!! ; )
LEEE777 - 6/4/2009, 5:42 AM
Clint @ Delpoi @ He's had contact with the PREDATORS ofcourse he'd be asked questions an stuff an be involved!!!

Smolo @ I like that idea lol! Cool.
LEEE777 - 6/4/2009, 5:46 AM
he may be old but he gave us some of the most iconic film characters and films of the 80's and 90's. i agree with leee777, the crow is a cult classic, looking forward to that. just make sure these are SOLID 18 CERTIFICATE films tho!!
cindar - 6/4/2009, 5:52 AM
Oh yeah, i liked AVP!!! ; )

Though AVP2 wasn't that great!

Cinder @ Your so right, its gotta be R-RATED!!!
LEEE777 - 6/4/2009, 5:54 AM
The man has fat hanging from his arms. LOL
GameAnime45 - 6/4/2009, 6:02 AM
damn..he wouldnt come back for a salvation cameo..why would he for a predators one?..they messed up when they went to the AVP films...these franchises went from bein cool to utter crap thanks to movie execs..i hope redemption comes soon lol
Anil Rickly - 6/4/2009, 6:17 AM
Anil @ For a start maybe he wont even be the GOV of CALI by the time they start this! He's always said after that he'd wanna go back into the movies!!!

I think he would do it, big time!!! ; )

An come on = RODRIGUEZ!!!

Man, one tick?! Am i the only one that's ticked the thumbs up box!?! This is Awesome news!!!
LEEE777 - 6/4/2009, 6:24 AM
Well in fairness, it wouldnt have made any sense for him to cameo in Terminator unless Cyborgs age! But i like Smolos idea for this. He should play Dutch as a retired old nutcase, still puffing away on the cigars. And whoever finds themselves up against the Predator this time goes to him for advice or something. I dont think he should be running around with a gun though!
Rorschach01 - 6/4/2009, 6:44 AM
screw Arnie- get Danny Glover on board! (although in all fairness he is too old for this sh*t)
(actually I'm new here- can I swear?)
betaraybob - 6/4/2009, 6:50 AM
You can indeed, but if you say [frick] or [foo foo] is will be autocensored! For some reason you can say cock till the cows come home.
Rorschach01 - 6/4/2009, 7:01 AM
COCK!
I mean thanks.. been stalking this site for nigh on three years now- figured it was about time I got involved
betaraybob - 6/4/2009, 7:17 AM
Whoa!...whats foo foo....I want to try it...but dont ban me...
naw im too scared to say it... but its a c word.
vonstallin - 6/4/2009, 7:17 AM
not a remake or reboot. thank god.

in the commentary for avp2 by the directors. they said they wanted to bring back dobber from predator 2. he was the number 2 agent to gary busy. anyway they wanted him to play the role of the government guy in avp 2 that gets the tech in the end. but he was too busy or somthing. that would have been great continuity.
grif - 6/4/2009, 7:20 AM
So this will be a sequel, not another damn "reboot"? I'll give this thing a chance then. I enjoyed the original two films (I see AVP as a whole separate thing here), so hopefully they've got some interesting ideas for where to take this. Arnie in a cameo role could be really cool, too.
comicb00kguy - 6/4/2009, 7:27 AM
Im always confused about movie timelines. Predator 2 was set in the future..at least, A future, relative to the time it was made. The streets were shown to be a near constant warzone and all of the cops and the army carried souped up, futuristic weapons. AVP2 was set in present day..again, relative to the time it was made..but thats still years after the events of Predator 2. I saw no souped up weapons of gang warfare! Silly really when you think about it
Rorschach01 - 6/4/2009, 7:50 AM
@ror lol that was la. so the timeline works for me.
grif - 6/4/2009, 7:58 AM
Thank God they are not rebooting Predator. It would be cool to see Arnold appear in it though.
BmanHall - 6/4/2009, 8:01 AM
ive never been bothered by the timeline for one reason, in predator 2 at the end when the main predator throws danny glover the old gun its got 1790 on it or something like that. i always thought that meant one of two things, either the predators live for hundreds of years at a time (beacause he wore the gun as a trophy, like he won it). or that predators can time travel.
cindar - 6/4/2009, 8:07 AM
He won't be in a movie as long as he's the Governor. It'll be a conflict of interest right now. The State of California is having huge financial difficulties right now.
SirPrize - 6/4/2009, 8:10 AM
I'm just glad it's not a remake! It's not needed. Just a reference to Dutch like in P2 is good enough. P2 just failed because it lacked structure.

Although AVP was shit I actually thought they did quite a good job with the idea behind why these two meet. I was sure it was going to be a totally pointless piece of turd but it started as if they actually wanted to make a credible movie! Then it fell into a totally pointless piece of turd!
Howlett04 - 6/4/2009, 8:19 AM
So was LA the only city in America that was hit with the Future bug or something? Nah, its just shoddy research and lazy story telling if you ask me.

Cindar i think they can time travel too so that explains a few things, but what about what Grif was saying about the dude from Predator 2 reprising his role in AVP2? Would it have been a younger version of the character? Or was the world sposed to have gone all "nice" again since his boss blasted the Predator with a big ass [frick]ing freeze gun!
Rorschach01 - 6/4/2009, 8:21 AM
SirPrize - He could do it and donate his fees back into the economy as a publicity stunt to be re-elected!
Howlett04 - 6/4/2009, 8:22 AM
I'm pretty sure he said he would've made a cameo in Terminator if they filmed in Cali, but they decided to film in New Mexico instead. I'm sure it will be the same way with Predator. They will either have to film in Cali or wait until he is no longer governor.
SlaughterHouse - 6/4/2009, 8:36 AM
@Cindar: They don't have any time travel technology whatsoever, they have a lifespan that is roughly 300 years long. The name for the Predator race, or what they call themselves, is Yautja. They are a hunter society(obviously) who live and train only to hunt other life forms. The more dangerous the prey, the more honorable the kill, which is why they like hunting Humans and Xenomorphs so much. Despite their appearance and apparent lack of compassion, they actually have quite a profound sense of honor, bordering a code of chivalry even. While they certainly have deviants within their society like any sentient race, it is considered dishonorable to kill defenseless entity's (like children or unarmed opponents) and can even be considered a crime amongst their race. They always take trophies from their kills. In the event they encounter a superior warrior of another race, whether this warrior bested a Yautja in combat or the warrior has proven himself in battle alongside a Yautja, they practice a trophy exchange, in which they give said warrior a trophy in exchange for one from the warrior. This is what happened with the old flintlock pistol your referring to. The Yautja who gave Glover that pistol was and Elder of that particular clan and had very probably attained that weapon as a trophy on a previous visit to Earth some 200 years earlier.
TheMyth - 6/4/2009, 8:38 AM
AVP2 was actually quite faithful to the series - how could you like the first AVP over the R rated one? seems odd - but to each his own...

Arnie's doing a cameo in Sly's new movie so the chances of him doing a cameo in this one is actually pretty decent - the reason he couldn't do a full blown one in T4 was obvious stated above. Old ass floppy arnie popping out of that chamber wouldve been hilarious but come on.

Keven - 6/4/2009, 8:39 AM
I really do not care if they have Arnold or not. I just wish he would save California like he saved people in all of his other movies like Terminator hell or even Kindergarten cop.
ironknight27 - 6/4/2009, 9:25 AM
OH MY!

THE NEXT PREDATOR MOVIE =

PRED1

Checkmate!
PRED5

BOO!
PRED2

Give us a kiss ; )
PRED4

ARRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!
PRED3

THE END : D
LEEE777 - 6/4/2009, 9:49 AM
he didn't save anyone in the Terminator. he k!lled as many people as he could.

but then again you never meant the first Terminator anyways - you meant the entire series based as a whole.... but then again - if that's the case - then Arnie's character was only good 50% of the time since he was only programmed for good in T2 and 3....interesting....

Best scene in Predator - when all the soldiers begin sh00ting into the jungle practically mowing down a city block worth of vegetation only to miss their target pretty much completely. hilarious.
Keven - 6/4/2009, 9:54 AM
@KEVEN- Yeah I meant the other two in the series. Come to think of it weren't those soldiers in Predator supposed to be badass?
ironknight27 - 6/4/2009, 9:57 AM
JESUS JUMPED UP CHRIST ALLMIGHTY ON A STICK!!!

Shaman - 6/4/2009, 10:08 AM
Damn : D ,,,, He should dye his manboobies lol!!! : D
LEEE777 - 6/4/2009, 10:21 AM
This kind of reminds me of Rambo with Stallone... I was concerned and worried about the ancient green beret taking it on again but it was actually a good film. This could be good as well if they don't give him too much. Arnold told Terminator 4 crew to wait a few extra months when he found out they wanted to cast him so that he may change his appearance. He worked out for over 5 months etc... but we all know even Terminator 3 was quite some time ago. We will have to wait and see how much they ask of him.
IronManisGOAT - 6/4/2009, 10:40 AM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. He's way too old. He should go pop a viagra and find a kennedy.
Crusader - 6/4/2009, 10:53 AM
A perfect idea and it was even suggested once upon a time.

Have the predator movie take place in iraq, land of war and turmoil. What better place for a pred or two to be on the hunt? Oh and because its a war with the U.S. involved guess what? You put a higher ranked Dutch back into the mix. He can be a commander or such trying to instruct a team of special forces men to take this pred out once clues start turning up (like a skinned hanging body) that one may have returned. Could maybe have a final show down but have arnie and some other dude take down the uber pred? Maybe a sort of passing of the torch scene at the end?

Anyway, its an idea that I think would work awesome.
CyborgNinja - 6/4/2009, 11:10 AM
On a sad unrelated sidenote:
Kwai Chang Caine is dead. David Carradine has committed suicide at 72.
nerosday - 6/4/2009, 11:15 AM
And you know, maybe it would be kinda cool to see a female predator?

I'm no predator guru so I dont know what the woman do in their culture but I imagine there are some warrior types somewhere?
CyborgNinja - 6/4/2009, 11:16 AM
Yeah, that sucks about Carradine dying.

I'm glad to hear they are continuing with the Predator movies. I've never seen AVP or the sequel, however I loved the first two.
longbowhunter - 6/4/2009, 11:21 AM
i guess Carradine hung himself too - makes no sense. that guy was 72 and was having the best time of his life career-wise. that completely sucks - he was a scene stealer in everything after Tarantino got a hold of him.

i heard about this news on my way to work - then I heard the rumours of su!cide - but I wrote it off.

who knows - either way it's sad.
Keven - 6/4/2009, 12:27 PM
Yeah CyborgNinja, sounds like a good idea if he works out like IronManisGOAT said he did.

HOLY SHIT!!!! Dave is dead??? Suicide at 72??? WTF!?!?!?
Shaman - 6/4/2009, 12:30 PM
he looks old in that pic, but other dudes at his age look way worse than that. that said he shouldnt be in the predators movie.
realblood33 - 6/4/2009, 1:11 PM
The firtst pred was so great two of the main characters were were voted in as gov's
What other movie can say that. !!!!!!!!
darthstern - 6/4/2009, 1:14 PM
No Nick Cage movie, that's for sure LMFAO!!!
Shaman - 6/4/2009, 1:34 PM
That female predator pic scares the shit out of me!
thwhtGuardian - 6/4/2009, 1:57 PM
Dude, this News makes me happy. Very happy. I respect the first movie...never like the second one. I feel stupid watching it, and it has this goofy atmosphere...almost as if they dont take PREDATOR seriously.

Anyways, if they are going to get Arnold to be in the "predators" sequel as a secondary character thats fine. But, as a primary character and how old he is right now? Thats not going to work period. I think it would be a different story if it was sylvester stallone. lol...The guys like how old? And Hes still in shape...HGH man! lol

I hope Rodriguez knbows what hes doing, Love a few of his movies...but he is hit or miss.
Aiiwolf - 6/4/2009, 2:23 PM
@ThWhtKnight

Imagine her going down on you with those teeth. uahaha! Bite? Or no bite?
Aiiwolf - 6/4/2009, 2:25 PM
i hope arnie retires...and kicks into t5..and he should have more input than bale..jeez...bale is my hero but he really helped change the storyline up...it wasnt a bad film but salvation wasnt the greatness i hoped for...worthington is the man though...he looks like a promise for future films...ps bryce dallas looked good as a preggerz lady...and moon bloodgood..omg..i would eat ice cream out her ***...IS THIS THING ON??..lol
Anil Rickly - 6/4/2009, 2:43 PM
If they really wanna throw Arnie into the mix, I really like where CyborgNinja was going with it. The only other thing I can think of kind of stems from some of the shit I've heard about Rodriguez' original treatment concept. He spoke about bringing it to the Predator homeworld somehow. I think it would be cool if the Predators rounded up some humans to bring home. They would use them to fight in a gladiator style arena on their home planet. When the abducted humans reach the arena they find Dutch, who has been there for years. Scarred to the hilt, Dutch rallies the new troops in an attempt to gain their freedom. In a prision break scenario, or as a reward for honorable battle. Writer's discretion there. Arnie can die in the climax to really juice up the story and pass the torch. That's off the top of my head though. As long as they don't tell the same ole BS story I'm cool.
BillyBlack - 6/4/2009, 3:41 PM
@CyborgNinja: The Predators, or Yautja, operate socially with a caste system. The females of the species are the dominant sex, though they do not participate in the hunt. The females maintain the homeworld and motherships as well as making the political decisions and rearing the young and live in large groups composed of several generations of females, from daughters to great-grandmothers. The males must contend for the right to breed with a female by proving himself an honorable warrior. They do not mate for life however, and one male may be allowed to breed with several females if he be strong enough to attract the attention of multiple females in one season. This means breeding rights are very competitive, and a male Yautja may live his entire 300 year life span without ever being allowed to breed. The females are taller than the males, as well as outnumbering them.
TheMyth - 6/4/2009, 5:03 PM
300 years and no poon?

I'd rather be a Gundar.
BillyBlack - 6/4/2009, 5:14 PM
As far as Rodriguez including the Yautja homeworld, I don't think he deserves that right. The homeworld has never been seen in comics and was only briefly viewed in AvP2. In fact it is only speculated that they even still inhabit their planet of origin. It is strongly suggested in the comics that they do, but again, its never been visited.
TheMyth - 6/4/2009, 5:21 PM
he's fat and old no way
gambitfreak - 6/4/2009, 6:50 PM
TheMyth--Damn, you are well versed on Predator. Do you pronounce that home world (yowta, yowt-ya)?

THere not talking about Arnie as a lead.
I think it's a great idea to include Arnold in this new one. It could be a full circle type thing like someone else said up there. After all he makes fun of Apollo Creed for being stuck behind a desk, "Pooshin' pencils." Arnold could have this brief role where he has become too old and has been stuck behind a desk, "Pooshin' pencils." Full circle baby. Deep.

I know Apollo Creed is from rocky I just can't remember his name.
Betty - 6/4/2009, 6:57 PM
MYTH @ There has been a homeworld comic! : D

An i second that @ BETTY @ !
LEEE777 - 6/4/2009, 7:01 PM
PRED ; )
LEEE777 - 6/4/2009, 7:03 PM
That's Carl Weathers there Betty

Good ole Chubbs from Happy Gilmore, who also had a great role as himself in Arrested Development. In which he provided one of my favorite quotes of all time.

"Baby, you got a stew goin!"
BillyBlack - 6/4/2009, 7:19 PM
@Betty: it's pronounced Yowt-ja the best I can tell, and it is the name of the race not the homeworld.

@Lee777: Damn I don't know how I've missed those books, is it a mini-series, ongoing, when was it put out?
TheMyth - 6/4/2009, 9:55 PM
ONLY RESPECT for Arnold, he gave us a lot of great movies (excpect for "HERCULES IN NEW YORK") with awesome puns.
when he was in his prime he was it! (wow thats sound kind of gay;-)
alot of his movies i grew up watching. but we all get older and i think predator needs a new muscle bound tough guy for this franchise.
besides he said himself he is happy doing policitics and no movies. we all have to move onto bigger and beter things.
shadowboxer - 6/4/2009, 10:03 PM
MYTH @ A good few years ago, dunno when? Its a 4 issue mini series, probably in tradepaperback too now! Actually i might think about getting it myself dude! ; )

Shadowboxer @ Heyyyyy,,, ive got HERCULES IN NEW YORK on dvd! Luv that movie lol! Hey it cost a buck an im joking heh heh!

Anyway, ol' ARNOLD could easily film a small cameo in this new PRED movie easy!
LEEE777 - 6/4/2009, 10:47 PM
@LEEE777: I so need to get that, it would fill a big hole in my Predator/Alien knowledge. That would have to be the only story arc that deals with the Yautja homeworld, and I would love to see if any of my theories about how their home system were correct. For their strength and reflexes to be the level they are, the home planet must have been a huge terrestrial body with a long orbit, resulting in a more powerful gravitational force on the planet's surface. Also, the sun in that system either had to be weak or the planet they first inhabited must have had a significantly slower day/night cycle to explain the evolution of their sense of sight. It also had to have been a massive jungle planet riddled with marsh land and overgrown mountain ranges, which would explain their natural agility as well as how they are able to breath in our atmosphere. I should stop now cause I really sound like a nerd.

One thing I've wanted to know more than anything about them is how they attained the level of technology they have while maintaining their tribal society. Having one seems to contradict the other.
TheMyth - 6/4/2009, 11:28 PM
I'm glad this is going to be a sequel and not a remake, but this better not be a stupid out of place cameo. I really don't like those.

The one in T4 was really good because it was apart of the story/plot.

I don't want to see Dutch in a wheelchair smoking a cigar telling crazy stories about aliens for the sake of humor and a cameo.
Macksimus - 6/4/2009, 11:29 PM
Yeah @ MYTH @ i reckon you gotta get that!!! An some very good points! ; )

Macksimus @ What??? If he is in it, it'll because he is still alive and had contact with the PREDATORS that's why he's called upon to help out! ?
LEEE777 - 6/5/2009, 12:07 AM
Why the hell is Arny's nickname 'Dutch' in this movie?
Spilox - 6/5/2009, 1:17 AM
Billy

"Baby, you got a stew goin!" lmao, classic Weatherman! Always trying to eat on the cheap.
Rorschach01 - 6/5/2009, 6:02 AM
Is the first post in this string a comment from Clint Eastwood saying how old Arnie is? That rocks!
JerusalemJr - 6/5/2009, 10:02 AM
In one of the Predator mini series they use one of Dutch's relatives as the main hero and mention how Dutch went a bit nuts after the run in with the Predator. Also, in the original AvP comic mini series they hint at the fact that females look the same as males. Granted I have seen images of Predators with boobs since then so who knows.
JerusalemJr - 6/5/2009, 10:16 AM
He could donate his salary to the budget deficit in California. But no, I would love to see Arnold back on the big screen.

(Spilox) I believe it's after the Dutch Master Cigars he smokes.
