Jason Statham On Superhero Movies: "You Wouldn't See Me Rushing To The Cinema"

The Homefront actor has expressed his dislike for superhero movies in the past, and reiterates to digital spy that they're just not his cup of tea at all. He also reveals that, maybe because of this, he's never actually been offered a role in a big CBM.

Jason Statham -- who has made a career out of starring in the same movie over and over again with different titles -- just ain't a fan of the 'ol superhero flick. In a previous interview, when asked if there was any chance he'd appear in the new Star Wars movie, the actor revealed that anything sci-fi/fantasy related just wasn't in his wheelhouse. Now when quizzed about possibly suiting up in a comic book based movie some day, Statham infers that there really isn't a whole lot to them, and that it's all about the Benjamins. "It's all about money, kids pay money to go and see them," the Expendables actor said. "The fascination is superheroes, it's what people want to go and see but you wouldn't get me rushing to the cinema to see those. I like the old-fashioned type of film. They've never offered me a part in one of those and I don't think the shoes would fit. Or the cape wouldn't fit!" Well, I know there are a few of you who seem to think Stath would make a good superhero -- what do you think of this?

LMAO!
Mecha - 12/4/2013, 6:34 AM
Jason Statham already basically plays superheroes.
BatManiac - 12/4/2013, 6:35 AM
I actually think Jason Statham would make a good Wildcat.
BatManiac - 12/4/2013, 6:47 AM
To be honest, I think Jason Stratham is like another Van Damme and Seagel. He is an action movie star and that's it. He has a healthier career than most and he doesn't come off as the guy that wants to be critics favorite actor, so I think he is comfortable with his career where it is.

Jason Statham is old school like Michael from GTA V. Comic book movies aren't his thing. He is a true believer in the way Hollywood used to be, and that's why he is in his element when he is making the sort of action movies he makes.
RorMachine - 12/4/2013, 6:50 AM
I wouldn't mind him just saying they're not his thing, but I don't like that he suggests that they are all the same, empty, and just there to make cash..because that IS the exact type of movie HE makes! Dude just has no damn imagination at the end of the day.
ForeverPowerful - 12/4/2013, 6:53 AM
I love the [frick] out of Jason.

He should've been the voice for Rocket Raccoon. He played Tybalt in that Gnomeo and Juliet animated movie. A talking raccoon who shoots guns wouldn't have been much of a stretch.
superotherside - 12/4/2013, 6:53 AM
Superhero movies are old fashioned dude. Seriously Superman, and Captain America got a serial back in the 30-40's.

Your point is invalid. In fact... do you even have a point?

Answer = No

People keep wanting to say that superhero films are kids films. My question is do they think Lord of the Rings or Robocop are kids films?

Pretty much the same type of movie... so yeah.

This guy isn't making any sense when it comes to that.

If you don't like them say you don't care for them, but don't say that they're some how kiddish or a fad.
TheAbomination - 12/4/2013, 6:55 AM
He's making a huge generalization about the genre, which shows that he probably hasn't seen that many of them.
MrDonut - 12/4/2013, 6:55 AM
He could b decent Wolverine or Punisher but that's where it ends. Still, I remember a while ago he said he wanted to be Daredevil... Any truth to that?
jimoakley666 - 12/4/2013, 6:55 AM
Maybe as Danny Rand?
superotherside - 12/4/2013, 6:55 AM
Oh and don't say that they're just a cash cow either. Because if done right they can tell a great story.
jlabatman - 12/4/2013, 6:55 AM
Eh, whatever, not really a huge loss to the Superhero movie community!
BatManiac - 12/4/2013, 6:57 AM
Statham is a lads lad. I wouldn't say he has no imagination, just his imagination doesn't really consist of superheroes. His imagination consists of guns, martial arts, woman, cars and just being an action hero.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, while I may not agree with it, a lot of people think superheroes are for kids.
SpectacularJoShFest - 12/4/2013, 6:57 AM
The one superhero I can see him playings Cole McGrath from the InFamous series...but that's pretty much it. I love Statham, but the guy has only one character, even when he was only but an underdog here in England....Lock Stock and Mean Machine come to mind....same character ever since.
ForeverPowerful - 12/4/2013, 6:59 AM
And I swear to god if they don't get Nic Cage for Expendables 4.
Roscoe182 - 12/4/2013, 7:00 AM
lol i love it when a type cast actor tries to play off that they think superhero films are a waste of time or money.

Joementum - 12/4/2013, 7:00 AM
Whenever I see Jackman as Wolverine, I miss what could have been. Statham could have been a convincing Wolverine. Rather than a tall, skiny, singing dancer.
ManCalledSting - 12/4/2013, 7:02 AM
Reading to much into his comment, I'd say. He's right, they are all about money, and making family friendly action comedies is the best way to make the most money. Some action, some comedy, alittle love/drama, and bang!! Superhero movie!! Now I'm not saying all his movies are gems either, but he's been in some pretty damn good movies, and has played some good characters(except the same accent everything...).
charlie2094 - 12/4/2013, 7:02 AM
Don't mind this, he's an action guy and that's about it. "Isn't a whole lot to them"...really? Just mindless, standard, empty cliched action film after another...oh well, fair enough they're not his cup of tea but saying they're empty and just there to make money? That's pretty much exactly every film he's in :P
AlexdoxA - 12/4/2013, 7:02 AM
He'd make a good punisher
Ramiel - 12/4/2013, 7:07 AM
"you wouldn't get me rushing to the cinema to see those."

That's funny because a lot of people aren't rushing to see your movies, Jason. That being said, he would've been perfect as Rocket Raccoon.
Newbus - 12/4/2013, 7:08 AM
What he's really saying is why hasn't offered me a CBM role? A bit of reverse psychology.
InfiniteMonkey - 12/4/2013, 7:10 AM
He's got a hot girlfriend! That is all!
TopCat89 - 12/4/2013, 7:10 AM

Reni - 12/4/2013, 7:12 AM

DO IT!!

FatCat33 - 12/4/2013, 7:13 AM
"This is Jason Statham like you've never seen him before!" said no movie review ever. I like his stuff, but he is kind of a one-trick pony.
Nomis - 12/4/2013, 7:18 AM
ManCalledSting - 12/4/2013, 7:18 AM
Gusto: That's perfect, I've been saying they should make T'Challs white!
SuperCat - 12/4/2013, 7:19 AM
I ain't even mad. Do your thing.
JoeMomma29 - 12/4/2013, 7:21 AM
Just watch they are going to offer a role pretty soon!
19001560 - 12/4/2013, 7:21 AM
Frick him!
fettastic - 12/4/2013, 7:21 AM
Or maybe he hasn't been offered a role in them because all his films [frick]ing bomb.
RRA - 12/4/2013, 7:22 AM
His frequent co-worker Sylvester Stallone I should add also said a few years back that superhero movies "ruined" action films. Or translation, put guys like him mostly out of business.
