VIDEO: Jesse Eisenberg Talks MAN OF STEEL 2..Back In October Of 2013!

Last year Total Film interviewed both Eisenberg and actor/director Richard Ayoade for their movie The Double, and quizzed them about Zack Snyder's Batman VS. Superman themed sequel. Although Ayoade does most of the talking, it's pretty clear they both knew something even back then!

The internet has blown up since it was announced that Jesse Eisenberg had been cast as Lex Luthor in the sequel to Man Of Steel, so Total Film have just posted this video of an interview with the actor from back in October of last year. The site was just randomly asking everyone they spoke to around that time for their opinions on the flick, but when you watch the vid it seems that both Eisenberg and the ever hilarious Richard's Ayoade may well have known that the latter had been in talks. Pay particular attention to Ayoade bringing up the casting of Lex Luthor, and Eisenberg's somewhat squirming reaction!

Anyway, what do you guys think of this controversial choice?

He looked nervous when asked.

Kurne - 1/31/2014, 1:59 PM
... Not really :/
Brainiac13 - 1/31/2014, 1:59 PM
If only he was 10 years older.........just looks too young for Lex.

Great actor though.
Kurne - 1/31/2014, 1:59 PM
Nervous because Eisenberg really is just awkward in public.
thebearjew - 1/31/2014, 2:00 PM
that's just his normal demeanor

hes 30 years old which is shocking
Praetorian - 1/31/2014, 2:00 PM
He'll do fine. But the real question is how does he lose his hair and go completely bald without being at least in his mid 40's. Some sort of Anakin Skywalker in the lava moment making him hate Superman
batz11 - 1/31/2014, 2:01 PM
God damn, dude is tiny...wtf WB>
Brainiac13 - 1/31/2014, 2:01 PM
He needs to put on weight and then train to get his body in shape.

batz11 - 1/31/2014, 2:02 PM
Maybe Lex and Gal will have a wrestling match on set, I'd bet on Gal...
thebearjew - 1/31/2014, 2:02 PM

lex's hair loss
jacobcherry1993 - 1/31/2014, 2:03 PM
That coy son of a bitch! Lol There are some points in this video where I swear both of them already had a previous conversation about Eisenberg auditioning for the movie. Eisenberg is sitting there like, "Shut up man!" He's hiding his face the entire time!
Brainiac13 - 1/31/2014, 2:03 PM
At least he will be shorter than Supes.

CharacterAssassin - 1/31/2014, 2:04 PM
Eisnenberg looks too slouchy and frail and has a voice of a kid to play Lex Luthor. This has to be a joke or something because April hasn't came around yet or this has to be a FAIL casting on that particular part.
Pasto - 1/31/2014, 2:04 PM
Whu whu?

ha. fun interview in light of the news.

I really don't know the real deal Lex, but i have general common knowledge, and I think this is kinda a pretty interesting casting.

I mean we gotta assume that they're casting him for the role that they've written, so their imagining of Lex is what is driving the whole thing. Not the other way around.

And I think that's the hardest part for people to keep in mind when talk of castings come out.
Brainiac13 - 1/31/2014, 2:11 PM
WB probably got this news coming next week.....

batz11 - 1/31/2014, 2:11 PM
^ Damn, sexual tension in that video...should I know that chic?
batz11 - 1/31/2014, 2:12 PM

typicalfanboy - 1/31/2014, 2:18 PM
holy balls. he was approached that long ago! el mayimbe, defend your lies!
Comedian03 - 1/31/2014, 2:20 PM
You guys need to stop asking how he's going to lose his hair, or what he'll look like when he's bald.

I'm 99% positive Zack already stated in an interview that this version of Lex Luthor will HAVE hair.

Gonna need plenty of beer to forget about this day...

CherryBomb - 1/31/2014, 2:21 PM
He's an actor. His "posture" will change, if he shaves his head that would make him look a lot older.
He's 30, same age as Cavill, maybe they'll use that fact, maybe they won't.

I think he's going to be a Lex that doesn't look intimidating at all, or looks like he could even hold a candle to Superman. But it's his brain, his mind that makes him scary and I like that.

@yossarian Although it would've been awesome. It's kinda obvious Phoenix wouldn't do it. It's way out of his comfort zone. He's quite eccentric and I really didn't think he'd commit to a big superhero franchise.

typicalfanboy - 1/31/2014, 2:23 PM
I thought j-eis was playing cyborg. this is just strange
ScorpioRisin - 1/31/2014, 2:23 PM
It's over. Warner Brothers is finished.
BatManiac - 1/31/2014, 2:23 PM

I just don't see it. Snyder please prove me wrong. PLEASE!
dethpillow - 1/31/2014, 2:25 PM
but you know what too? from the outsider perspective...

like I myself am pretty 100% Marvel, i love Superman, Wonder Woman and Animal Man but I don't read Superman comics, i don't know all the Lex Luthor lore and legend and all that.

but from the outside, i'm telling you, this actually makes us more excited to see the movie. it's funny cuz i'm more used to witnessing horrible things being done to Marvel characters and saying like... no they got their personality wrong... they're deeper than that, there's all this stuff and that....

So this time, I'm on the flip side for once and this casting looks great to me.
Part of the thing with this movie, is I was already expecting just exactly what you'd expect from Lex Luthor. well Joaquin Phoenix would've been really exciting, probably most exciting for me to think would be the role, but mostly besides that, just thinking bald, fit, businessman, quietly aggressive, intense, sociopath, very bizarre and charming. kind of guy that would just do weird things to put you off guard in one on one meetings.

like maybe take a poop in front of you. just you and him and this would be while you were explaining a proposed business deal and he'd motion you into the bathroom and just sit down and keep talking and listening to you. awkward weird stuff like that and even weirder.

that was i was thinking ok, stock Luthor. but this is actually really interesting. you wouldn't want this kind of casting on a hero. but it's the kind of thing that can work for a villain. but imagine even if we went back to the imaginary Luthor i first said. and what if this guy, looking like he does, kind of has a demeanor like that... what if he did exactly the same thing? pooped in front of u like that?

that would seriously be so much more offputting and skincrawlingly awkward and bonechilling to have happen. if he motioned you in the middle of your pitch in to the bathroom with him. and did that. so much more threatening and bizarre than if bizarro guy with the scarred face and intenso marching around, Joaquin Phoenix, did the same thing. cuz it's such a stereotypical alpha thing to pull...

so i'm not saying that they would make their Luthor like this, just pointing out that sometimes a contrast like that can be extremely offputting and produce some interesting dynamics.
batz11 - 1/31/2014, 2:25 PM
Haha, that gif of Alexandra will be my all time favorite (well, the 'full' clip is my favorite)
blvdnoise - 1/31/2014, 2:26 PM
CherryBomb, the optimistic. She's helping but...
JoeMomma29 - 1/31/2014, 2:26 PM
The insanity does not stop with WB, they have all of us on a emotional roller coaster. This is the only the casting that I have questions or concerns on.
cipher - 1/31/2014, 2:26 PM
Brainiac13 - 1/31/2014, 2:27 PM
I think we need lots of photoshop pics of this guy as Luthor.
