Preview A 'Tyrion' Centric Chapter From George R.R. Martin's THE WINDS OF WINTER

EW have posted a paragraph from the penultimate novel in the Song Of Ice And Fire saga, which still doesn't have a set release date. It's really not much to go on but it features Tyrion Lannister, seemingly in the middle of some sort of battle involving the Second Sons.

Since the shocking resolution of A Dance With Dragons, fans have been eagerly awaiting the next, and penultimate, novel in the Song Of Ice And Fire saga. Martin is notorious for taking his sweet time on these books - understandable given the quality and sheer density of each one - but it does leave fans a little impatient. Well now EW have posted a few short lines from the novel, which feature most people's favorite character (and certainly their favorite Lannister), Tyrion.

"Somewhere off in the far distance, a dying man was screaming for his mother. “To horse!” a man was yelling in Ghiscari, in the next camp to the north of the Second Sons. “To horse! To horse!” High and shrill, his voice carried a long way in the morning air, far beyond his own encampment. Tyrion knew just enough Ghiscari to understand the words, but the fear in his voice would have been plain in any tongue. I know how he feels."

Not much there to put things in any kind of context, but the entire chapter from which this paragraph is taken will be posted online next month when Random House launch a large update for George R.R. Martin’s "A World of Ice and Fire" app, which will apparently also include many new characters and location descriptions. How are you guys holding up waiting for this next book? I know I'm not doing so well!

Where are the gratuitous naked women in this?
I thought this was the vaunted Game of Thrones!

@Pasto

It's already come out, called "S"...looks interesting, sat on my shelf haven't had the chance to read this yet...

This better come out soon! As it is, the show is likely to finish before the books, which it really shouldn't...at a push, they might finish in the same year...still got A Dream of Spring to go too. I get that he needs time, but the best books were the one's that came out very close together (1-3) and the worst took forever (4-5)...

Hopefully we at least get it before the next Season of the show, be great if they could get it out at the end of this year

SO [frick]ING GOOD.

Finished the entire series in a month due to having no life; can't wait for TWOW.
Nomis1800 - 2/26/2014, 11:24 AM
It's about [frick]ing time GRRM releases TWOW dammit!

JJ's book is great, takes a little while to figure out what's happening but well worth a read
henchmen - 2/26/2014, 11:36 AM
I can't friggin stand the wait! Cmon George, get your sh!t together! At least Season 3 of GoT dropped last week so I can binge watch all the seasons again, and we are a little over a month away from Season 4. But, I want more story!!!
A Dance With Dragons came out almost 4 years ago, you're killing me.

I've read everything, but doesn't this article title spoil the fact that Tyrion doesn't die in this season of GOT.... or any other one for the foreseeable future?

The books are fantastic. I think part of the wait is that he's got alot of threads to tie together and can't figure out how to do it. I mean all of these characters need some sort of resolution. Some, like Areya (I know I spelled that wrong) are in the middle of an arch that should take a fairly long time to resolve. I mean ALOT has to happen in the next 2 books. That's difficult. I think the 7 book cap is causing him problems.

I dunno Ror, I wouldn't say 'certainly' the favourite Lannister, Jaime's gone from strength to strength since the first book (hell, I even sided with him when the two argued in ASOS)
ThrotTheUnclean - 2/26/2014, 1:03 PM
My favorite character is Theon Greyjoy. He has had it the worst of any character in the series but he keeps chugging along.

Transcripts of Tyrion and Barristan (including others, but these are from the same battle) chapters from readings GRRM has done at events have been out for a long time.

Read those for a lot more information if you're looking for it.
ckal - 2/26/2014, 1:20 PM
As of 'A Dance With Dragons,' Tyrion is absolutely NOT most peoples' favorite Lannister.
ckal - 2/26/2014, 1:20 PM
Book readers I mean, of course.
ckal - 2/26/2014, 1:22 PM
sikwon-

There is no 'cap' to how many books GRRM will write. GRRM has stated he would LIKE to finish ASOIAF in 7, but ultimately it will take as long as it takes and 8 is not an impossibility.

Even since the beginning, ASOIAF was intended to be a trilogy, then 5, then 6, then 7 books.
RorMachine - 2/26/2014, 1:38 PM
CapnSquintyEyes, yes.

Bur who thought in a million years Tyrion would kick the bucket?
ISeeStupidPeople - 2/26/2014, 1:46 PM
@RorMachine

If Tyrion Dies: We Riot
DelTorite - 2/26/2014, 2:17 PM
Hmm the two last books were pretty boring. Hopefuly this one will deliver.
Klone - 2/26/2014, 3:34 PM
I read up on what happens to Theon in the books due to Ramsay's torture... [frick]ING HELL IS THAT BRUTAL. It's even more painful considering how book Theon used to something of a physical badass.
loki668 - 2/26/2014, 11:42 PM
How many books are left?
