David S. Goyer Says DC/WB "Would Love To Make Their Universe More Cohesive"

Right now DC's cinematic and TV output run parallel to each other without actually existing in the same universe..but could that change? During an interview with IGN, one of the main players at the studio suggests that it's definitely something Warner Bros. are thinking about..

Even since the Smallville days fans have wondered if we'd ever see a DC themed television show cross over with a Warner Bros. big screen release, and the desire to witness this has only intensified since the studio have recently began to lay the groundwork for a shared cinematic universe. Also, The CW's Arrow series will now give way to the likes of The Flash spin-off, and they will both likely tie in to future shows too -- so surely we'll eventually see a big screen crossover...right? In an interview with IGN, David S. Goyer first dances around a few Batman VS. Superman questions before admitting that a shared tv/movie universe is indeed something Warner Bros. would love to see happen -- someday.

"I mean, it's too early. I know that Warner Bros. would love to make their universe more cohesive. There have been a lot of general conversations about that, but it's really, really early. I'm not sure. Marvel has had enormous success, but I'm not sure that everybody should try to emulate them either. It's just been vague conversations so far."

Goyer does go on to praise Marvel's success, and says he's very excited to see the likes of Guardians Of The Galaxy and Ant-Man make it to the big screen. For the full interview click the link below.

thebearjew - 4/7/2014, 7:12 PM
its soo funny they haven't had a sharred universe by now when they own the WHOLE DCU and always have
BatManHeisenberg - 4/7/2014, 7:14 PM
Damn, I thought they had a more... cohesive plan.
Klone - 4/7/2014, 7:15 PM
Well hopefully that Universe won't involve you!
JediPhilosopher - 4/7/2014, 7:15 PM
Okay, spelling errors in comments is to be expected, but I'm getting really tired of all the spelling errors I've been seeing in articles lately.
Example: "... run parallel to each other without exciting in the same universe ..."
insert: existing
Fanmar16 - 4/7/2014, 7:15 PM
ok, that sucks, I thought that they already had plans for the future
soforizo - 4/7/2014, 7:16 PM
What's up RoR? Trying to save ink? LOL! j/k bro :)
BatManHeisenberg - 4/7/2014, 7:16 PM
Why can't they just do what they do in the comics and make a multiverse and not try to mesh two to five different universes?
Klone - 4/7/2014, 7:17 PM
Why don't they simply stop failing?
Klone - 4/7/2014, 7:18 PM
Goyer being the Fiege was confirmed to be not true I believe... and Goyer as their Fiege = FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!!!
Nomis - 4/7/2014, 7:20 PM
At first I was against this, but Arrow have convince me otherwise.

Kurne - 4/7/2014, 7:21 PM
Now Mark Millar and Goyer have made me hate the word cohesive.
Klone - 4/7/2014, 7:22 PM
Goyer touching anything DC = Good?

This calls for only one logical response:

BLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCKKKKJJJJJJJAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kurne - 4/7/2014, 7:22 PM
I dare someone to put 'grounded' in a sentence that relates to CBM's. Again.
cmay13 - 4/7/2014, 7:23 PM
Yes to Stephen Amell in a justice league movie, but no to Grant Gustin
Klone - 4/7/2014, 7:23 PM
Mark Miller... well Mark Miller is Mark Miller. Enough said really.
Klone - 4/7/2014, 7:24 PM
Does Goyer like hold WB execs in his basement and says "it puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again" to prevent himself from being fired.
RorMachine - 4/7/2014, 7:24 PM
JediPhilosopher, I'm still working on the article. Until you see it on main it's not going to be complete..and that includes a proof read for errors. On this occasion I had to take a call which is why it's been lying in an unfinished state a bit longer than usual.
Melkaticox - 4/7/2014, 7:25 PM
@Kurne The Fantastic Four reboot is going to be so grounded.
JediPhilosopher - 4/7/2014, 7:25 PM
Just been vague conversations? Okay, my first reaction to that was "WTF?" Supposedly Man of Steel was to be the beginning of the new DC universe wherein all their superheroes coexist. Then I thought of recent events. Wasn't Goyer replaced with other writers for the sequel to MOS? Is it possible he's bitter about that and decided to make this seemingly innocent comment, which may even have SOME truth to it, from certain points of view, in a veiled attempt to turn people against the movie in production?
Klone - 4/7/2014, 7:25 PM
@BlackJack

You are aware any level headed Batman fan who knows a lot could have given Nolan suggestions on how to do this and that? And advising Nolan doesn't make him a good writer.
Melkaticox - 4/7/2014, 7:25 PM
Is the Arrow dude even a good actor? Can he really stand up to Cavill and Affleck?
JediPhilosopher - 4/7/2014, 7:26 PM
Okay, sorry then, RorMachine. I wasn't aware of how article posting worked on here.
Klone - 4/7/2014, 7:27 PM
Well I'm off now. Some fill in my shift for Goyer hatin' lol.
BatManHeisenberg - 4/7/2014, 7:28 PM
Don't get the Goyer hate, I think he's pretty good. Glad it's Terrio writing, though.
GizmoEl - 4/7/2014, 7:29 PM
I don't know why people keep saying Amell's acting isn't on Cavill/Afflecks level. First off, Cavill isn't even at Affleck's level. No where near his level. He's an unknown and really isn't the best actor for Superman (he definitely looks the part though). If Gal Gadot (who definitely is NOT a good actor/actress) can be Wonder Woman standing beside Affleck's Batman, then why can't Amell stand in the far background as Green Arrow. You don't need an A-list actor to play a C-list character.
JediPhilosopher - 4/7/2014, 7:32 PM
I just wanted to point out my grammatical error for the irony. "... spelling errors in comments is to be expected ..."
insert: are to be expected :P
Tony93 - 4/7/2014, 7:35 PM
DC/WB announce something.. please
BatManHeisenberg - 4/7/2014, 7:38 PM
Yeah, c'mon DC. Get yo shit together and announce your plans.
0megaDaGod - 4/7/2014, 7:41 PM

Not surprising. Not even a little bit

Having said that, Goyer is a comic guy (regardless of how that is represented in his writing) so I would say he's fully aware of the implications of his words. This could easily be his way of playing it down while they actually have a few big bullets in the chamber. On the other hand, you can't trust Goyer for shit. This is the same guy who claimed that they were "further ahead than people realized" on BvsS, and then a few months later the movie gets pushed back 10 months. That's an EPIC and credibility killing contradiction, so you kinda have to take what he says with a grain of salt in many ways
0megaDaGod - 4/7/2014, 7:42 PM
Also, there is no DCCU at this point. There's a movie and it's sequel. That's not how you make a cinematic universe, it's how you make a franchise
BatManHeisenberg - 4/7/2014, 7:42 PM
As excited I am for BVS, I want DC to actually go some more. The fake april fools day thing with The Batman and Wonder Woman for 2017 and JL for 2018 would actually be excellent. Establish the trinity, introduce GL and Flash, maybe Aquaman. See what characters clicked in JL and go from there.
BatManHeisenberg - 4/7/2014, 7:44 PM
I really can't wait to see what they are going to announce. I just want them to finally announce it.
MikeHawk - 4/7/2014, 7:45 PM
I don't think Amell could hold his own against..Affleck. yes I said it lol he was good in the town and argo! Anyway, Amell seems to have the same 3 expressions on his face in arrow. There's the pretend happy face, mad face, and gloomy face
JediPhilosopher - 4/7/2014, 7:46 PM
Things I liked about Man of Steel: Superman looked pretty close to himself. He actually had the Superman muscles. I liked the new "S". The new look of Krypton was a welcome change imo. Faora. The super-speed looked good. What I didn't like about Man of Steel: just about everything not already mentioned.
BatManHeisenberg - 4/7/2014, 7:46 PM
It's a start, 0mega. At least, lets hope so.
