"Although there is a spin-off comic book for the HBO vampire series, we haven't been covering it to any great extent..."

In other words, "I want some money!"
batz11 - 4/21/2014, 5:20 AM
Don't be so cynical MrCBM, haha...I've actually watched this show since S1, stupid, vamp soap opera, but I like it!

Plus, lovin' me some hot ginger...

nibs - 4/21/2014, 5:36 AM
lol people actually watch this "Twilight: The Series" bullshit?
RorMachine - 4/21/2014, 5:41 AM
^^ Clearly never actually watched True Blood.
batz11 - 4/21/2014, 5:48 AM
Right, nothing like Twilight, people love to group anything Vampire with Twilight haha
MrCBM56 - 4/21/2014, 5:52 AM
Haha yeah. Just being a smart-ass.
Kurne - 4/21/2014, 5:53 AM
The show got crap after Season 2. I was pulled into S3 because it was the latest, S4 because I wanted to give it one last shot, then Lucy Griffiths came on so I stuck around for S5, she survived, so I stuck around for S6, then she died but I finished the rest of the season anyway. I'll probably keep up with S7, considering its the last :P
LorenzoVonMatterhorn93 - 4/21/2014, 5:54 AM
yh. twilight ruined vampires for everyone. vampires have been sterotyped into sparkly things that lurk around school corridors for loner girls.

but true blood is better than that. not great, but still better then that.
batmanvsuperman - 4/21/2014, 5:54 AM
This is good Bern watching sense s 1 good show
Gamera623 - 4/21/2014, 5:54 AM
A human woman in love with a vampire? Must be a Twilight rip-off!!!
Im not going to lie and say there arent moments....but no its really isnt.

Ive only seen the first 2 seasons since only very recently I am getting into the show.
I hear it gets terrible and intraduces crazy stuff like faries and Fairy World. Theres a part of me that actually cant wait to see the show go off the rails and go all wacky. :)
SuperCat - 4/21/2014, 6:07 AM
Nope. Nothing like "Twilight." More sex and violence in "True Blood." Twilight is like a Disney movie compared to this show.

nibs - 4/21/2014, 6:09 AM
Haha thanks, but I actually have seen the show. It's a piece of shit.

I even know some people that watch it regularly too, and they're some of the dumbest women that I have ever associated with. I don't know any men that watch it.

@gamera when the first movie and first season debut within 2 months of each other, right when the book's popularity is massive, then yeah, somebody probably borrowed an idea or 2.
Nomis1800 - 4/21/2014, 6:11 AM
First season is still the best.
Ramiel - 4/21/2014, 6:22 AM
The show started off great, but now it's gotten silly. I only watch it because of Deborah Ann Woll.
Mrsinister - 4/21/2014, 6:24 AM
Such a good show!
batz11 - 4/21/2014, 6:26 AM
You trickster nibs ;)
MrSotoMan - 4/21/2014, 6:39 AM
The fact that someone compares it to Twilight is quite hilarious other than the obvious

Vampire & human fall in love. Instead the BIGGEST DIFFERENCE of True Blood is

VAMPIRES CO-EXISIT WITH HUMANS

So for anyone who really decides to make a comparison with Twilight, they clearly, clearly never really watched the show. If they did, they caught the middle of an episode probably in season 3 and severely didn't get it.

Nibs...never saw the show.
RorMachine - 4/21/2014, 6:40 AM
You may hate the show, but it's nothing like Twilight...fact. I actually went off it big time, but again, not because it's ANYTHING like Twilight. If you're gonna dislike it at least do it the courtesy of having a better reason.
MrSotoMan - 4/21/2014, 6:42 AM
After Season 3 everything started to fall apart on this show. But I used to be just as ignorant claiming it is the same as Twilight.....

Till I saw the show, and it is nowhere near that.
MrSotoMan - 4/21/2014, 6:48 AM
Bella
-Both parents are alive, lives with father and mother lives in Arizona
-Is younger than 18
-Has insecurity issues
-Has like only 2-3 friends, no one really cares about her except Edward.
-Had a baby
-Aspires to be a vampire so she could be immortal
-Only werewolves and vampires exist in her world

Sookie
-Both parents died when she was young
-Is old enough to drink
-Has no insecurity issues, other than the issue of being able to read peoples minds
-The whole town knows her and loves her, the men all want to have sex with her including Vampire Bill
-Wants no baby
-Is a fairy with powers with no aspiration to become a vampire
-Werewolves,vampires,demons,cults,witches,zombies,serial killers,were-panthers etc. exist in the show.
tongtong - 4/21/2014, 6:50 AM
I hate that Deborah Ann Woll covers her tatas. LOL

I think it's time they end the series. The actors are getting old, vampires don't age.

nibs - 4/21/2014, 7:05 AM
I actually dislike it because the few episodes of the first season I saw were about a corny love story between a sexy-but-doesn't-fit-in-small-town girl and a gritty-tough-guy-but-still-sexy vampire, which is dumb as f. If a show revolves around a love story - big budget fantasy or not - it can lick my taint.

It doesn't matter if it is a twilight rip-off (which it most definitely is), it's just that it is a stupid plot in general with a sexy twist like most network bullshit. I have attempted to watch both this and twilight and hate them each independently.

But to say the idea for this show didn't come from twilight is hilarious. Go-bots isn't EXACTLY the same as transformers either, but you damn well know where their ideas came from.
MrSotoMan - 4/21/2014, 7:10 AM
@nibs- The girl does fit into the town, but if you actually payed attention Sookie is from that town born and raised. Her main issue is how every man wants to have sex with her and how she can read peoples thoughts.

Bella was not from the town that she met Edward in, making her anti-social to everyone except for 2 or 3 rejects.

So again, you did not see the show. For someone who wants to defend the logic of Man of Steel, you sure are blind when it comes to both the movie & the show.

Cause again, you never saw it.
Ruffus - 4/21/2014, 7:14 AM
Watched the first few seasons. Then it went off the deep end, had to stop watching.
rebellion - 4/21/2014, 7:15 AM
i'm gonna miss this mess
Tainted87 - 4/21/2014, 7:18 AM
I think the biggest issue was trying to really push the vampire "Authority", which never appeared in the books. Not because it never appeared in the books, but because of how caught up the vampires are in something that's just pointless plot exposition.
Russell BARELY appeared, and wasn't a crazed maniac (although admittedly, he was my favorite "villain of the season"), just the owner of the estate Lorena was using to hold Bill at. He feels indebted to Sookie after she was literally staked in place of him at "Club Dead".

Season three decided they needed to pull a SH*T LOAD of plot elements from later books and deliver some whammy lines in order to make the show interesting. They kept Sookie rescinding Bill and Eric's invitation to her house and their break-up, but it was due entirely to her being fed on and raped by Bill after he was drained and feral. Eric was just, there. It's not until the sixth book that Eric makes Bill tell her that he was ordered by the Queen to spy on and seduce her, and it's not until the eighth book that Sookie learns (and Bill didn't know) that she's part fairy.

I honestly think the show should have ended there, with Sookie in the cemetery, but it had grown too popular. Season five made ONE reference to the fifth book, which was with the hate group shooting shifters - which was what the "villain of the book" would have been doing had he appeared. The sixth season has ZERO connection at all, to ANY of the books.

It really has become a mess of a show that they can't get a hold of. Sookie is everyone's LEAST favorite character, and Bill and Eric have pretty much merged into Bill while Eric (post-season four) is basically an original character. It's a true example of character-driven drama gone wrong.
MrSotoMan - 4/21/2014, 7:19 AM
@nibs- By the way

The Southern Vampire Mysteries (you know, the show True Blood bases the books off) came out 4 years before Twilight.

True Blood was starting 2 years before Twilight.

So totally different.
rebellion - 4/21/2014, 7:19 AM
also, it's sad to see how paquin can easily pull off that 'southern belle' thing with sookie and never got a chance to do it with rogue
RorMachine - 4/21/2014, 7:21 AM
The love story is only one aspect of the show anyway, there are many, many other plot strands. Even if an argument can be made that because it deals with vampires in love that it has some similarities to Twilight...that's where they end. By your rational Jim Jarmusch's Only Lovers Left Alive must also be just like Twilight.
thewolfx - 4/21/2014, 7:23 AM
@Nibs

Yes you dipwit

Anyways id love if that ginger was maryjane
TheGodOfMischief - 4/21/2014, 7:29 AM
This show is awesome!
Tainted87 - 4/21/2014, 7:31 AM
Well considering how Dracula is roughly 50% Mina's perspective, and eventually becomes a narrative where she falls in love with the titular vampire, I'd say any romance involving a vampire must be just like Dracula.

The show REALLY got away from the tone of the books though, DRASTICALLY. Considering everything from the books is told from Sookie's narrative, we kind of get more information in the show than we need.

But yeah, Dead Until Dark (True Blood) came out in 2001. Twilight came out in 2005.
Gusto - 4/21/2014, 7:51 AM
Who cares...Miley's sick.
You should all be praying for her!
nibs - 4/21/2014, 7:59 AM
Yeah, these books came first. So how come they were never produced into any series until Twilight became popular? It's called "cashing in on a trend".

@sotoman
I am generalizing the characters, because like any rip-off, it's not going to be a carbon copy. Both girls are "doesn't-fit-in" types for different reasons, one is new in town, the other is a psychic. Totally different attributes at first glance, but it actually puts them in very similar circumstances.

And that's great that there are other plot threads, after 7 seasons I would hope so, but the main selling point was the love story, that's where they started with on season 1 ep 1, and that's why the few dumb women that I know got into it. It should also be noted that of the 30 comments on this article, 8 of them say the show gets progressively worse after the first season.

And, like I said, I don't hate this show because it is a twilight rip-off. I hate this show because I watched it and it was dumb. I hate twilight because I watched most of the first movie and it was dumb. I don't know about Jim Jarmusch's new movie because I haven't seen it yet.
The show is a twilight rip-off not just because it's a vampire-human love story, but also because it's target audience is teenage girls, it came out at the same time as the movies, the main character is a young woman in love with a vampire, and the characters are completely sexualized. And that's just what I came up with now off the top of my head after not having seen the show in almost 7 years.
nibs - 4/21/2014, 8:03 AM
LOL @gusto. I really need to just embrace the gusto-philosophy.

kevberg - 4/21/2014, 8:04 AM
jessica is quite fine.

the show has went to sh@t though.
ManCalledSting - 4/21/2014, 8:04 AM
There are some moments where I'm questioning why I watch, but overall it's a really good show. This show also brought us Anna Paquin nude, several times.
kevberg - 4/21/2014, 8:05 AM
@Nibs doesnt know his ass from a hole in the ground if he thinks its ripping off twilight.
ManCalledSting - 4/21/2014, 8:19 AM
Nibs: How did TrueBlood "cash in" on Twilight? The show's first season started about 2 months before Twilight cane out.
SpideyQuad - 4/21/2014, 8:20 AM
I always like me some super-fast mental retard vampire sex, but I never watch it.
