@The Thing1994
I love that he's just completely ignoring those people. This aint Pacific Rim or Cloverfield, the King of the Monsters has bigger fish to fry than those insignificant humans.

UltimateNullifier - 5/2/2014, 1:59 PM
@grif - Funny you should say that, I've just read a review complaining that Godzilla himself doesn't actually get much screen time.
Nomis - 5/2/2014, 2:05 PM
He's not fat ...He's "Big Boned".
Kyos - 5/2/2014, 2:16 PM

xXkryptoniteXx - 5/2/2014, 3:00 PM
I paid to see Godzilla, why are we getting more screen times for humans? Shit! Alien vs predator we want to see them. Transformers, we want to see them and not the humans to be focus.
GUNSMITH - 5/2/2014, 3:01 PM
"YOUR MONSTER IS HUGE."

"I KNOW MY WIFE TELL ME THAT ALL THE TIME."
Optimist18 - 5/2/2014, 3:28 PM
@GUNSMITH

Flying Muto, dude. THERE ARE NO OTHER TOHO KAIJU IN THIS FILM.

Better you know now, then when you go and see the film and unfairly judge it because it didn't live up to your misinformed expectations.
campblood - 5/2/2014, 5:02 PM
focus on the human characters. surprise surprise
Jobin - 5/2/2014, 5:03 PM
GUNSMITH,
Trust me, I have researched it. Its a flying MUTO. Big ass bug thin that kinda resembles Gigan in a more realistic way that flies with big wings. Toho did not give the rights to any other monsters other than Godzilla, so it would be illegal for Legendary to use them.
campblood - 5/2/2014, 5:10 PM
ok I get building up to GZ but if your going to do that then don't give away all the good stuff in the trailers. the only reason I have to see this now is for the atomic breath and that is no reason to spend money to see this.

now if any of you can convince me otherwise please go ahead because this is bumming me out
beane2099 - 5/2/2014, 6:06 PM
At the end of the day the milestone Godzilla films have ALWAYS been about the people first. The first movie incorporated elements of the real life tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki into the story (the footage of the victims of Godzilla's attack was actual footage from those events). The monster was secondary to that human element. The same is true of Godzilla 1985. In that film the effects of Godzilla on the world were more important than Godzilla himself. Godzilla's actions almost ignited a war between the US and Russia. Those elements serve to elevate Godzilla's presence. The movies that followed could be sillier because that first movie gave Godzilla his mark. Godzilla '85 did the same thing for the next 20 years worth of movies that followed.

So if you're complaint is that there's too much emphasis on the people or that there isn't enough Godzilla then you either haven't watched those films or weren't paying attention. It's pretty clear that Godzilla '54 and '85 are the tone they're going for here. And that's the right move.

quicksilver hooking up with scarlett. #wincest
ComicFan523 - 5/2/2014, 8:55 PM
I'm okay with the movie being about the human characters. I think of Godzilla as basically a force of nature. You see a movie about an earthquake and there's very little scenes of the actual earthquake, its mostly about people trying to survive in the aftermath. Seeing Godzilla blow up a building with atomic breath for two hours doesn't make for all that interesting of a movie, so having the focus on the human characters seems appropriate to me. That being said, I'm sure that Godzilla will be the highlight of the film and the star of the show.
OniGoji - 5/2/2014, 9:27 PM
@CampBlood You could always stop watching newly released trailers, and not spoil yourself even further.

Beyond that, not all of the cinematic action pieces have been spoiled and completely revealed. From the military confrontation, to Godzilla taking on the Muto monsters, and of course the film's conclusion for both the main characters and Godzilla himself. And if you go earlier then that, remember the film still has to showcase the destruction that the Muto monsters create in their wake, and the history telling of Godzilla's origin.

The film is balanced from what I've read, the first hour is to build up the film's world, develop the main human characters, explain Godzilla's origin, and set things up for the next hour of the movie. By the second hour, all things are in motion and the floodgates in unleashing Godzilla are open with the film stomping towards its final act.

It's not that difficult to see that there's still more left to this movie despite the footage shown in current trailers.

Also, side note: Gareth Edwards was the one who strongly marketed this film in shrouding Godzilla as much as possible, and express the emotional aspect of the film. Showing us teasers of Godzilla every now and then. But at WonderCon, Gareth told that now the highers wanted him to sell, sell, sell. Meaning he had to discard his marketing approach, which was something he wasn't for, but understood why it had to be done. So it's not like they are trying to spoil the juicy parts on purpose and ruin the film, but they have a job to do in reaching out to audiences who are still unsure and not completely drawn in yet.
