The real form and essence of a man who is hell bent on redemption and left in his own misery is finally captured in a way that isn't campy.
The Punisher has always been since day one (Amazing Spider-Man#129) A darker entity in the Marvel Universe but one that readers and audiences can recognize. War Journals alone tell the tale of a man who is hell bent on redemption and left in his own misery. After the orginal film starring Dolph Lundgren expectation was slim. The reboot with Thomas Jane as well as an unusual performance by John Travolta was a serious improvement. BUT! With Marvel increasingly huge success in Comic Book Movies as well as merchandise why not try another reboot in a popular character? Worked for The Hulk... Lexi Alexander did an amazing job. The Punisher is not a super hero he is not a hero children can look up to given the nature of the comic. His morals are real but mature and Ray Stevenson pulled that off to perfection. The deep abyss in his eyes showed the true emotion of the Punisher. Dominic West was uncanny as Jigsaw. Because of his real accent the eccentric take on Jigsaw an Italian Mafia sterotype was played to perfection. He was scary with little sympathy from the audience. First villian sense Heath Ledger in a comic book based film I saw audiences laugh with and at as well as loathe. This was a great start for The Punisher as a franchise. He is Marvels Batman.... Without the money... Without the code... with the same passion
