First Look At Bradley Cooper As Lucifer In Paradise Lost

Well, first look at his eyes anyway! Legendary Pictures have released some artwork featuring our first glimpse of Cooper as ol Scratch himself from Alex Proyas' upcoming take of the classic story..

Milton's poem Paradise Lost has influenced many films, comics and books over the years and Alex Proyas has been trying to get a direct adaptation off the ground at Legendary Pictures for some time now. Well, now it's on it's way and we have our first glimpse of Bradley Cooper as the man who will bring Lucifer to life on the big screen..



Artwork revealed from Paradise Lost by director Alex Proyas and starring Bradley Cooper. Lucifer and Michael, God's greatest archangels, share the bond of extraordinary friendship until God produces his greatest creation: Man. Unable to remain subservient to God if it means bowing down to humanity, Lucifer begins his dark descent and is cast out - only to plot his revenge.


Paradise Lost is set for release sometime towards the end of 2013.

Dayumm didn't know they were making a Paradise Lost film. Paradise Lost basically influenced my entire senior art portfolio!

Cooper is perfect guy to play Lucifer he can be very charismatic and likeable in his roles but in other side he can play the meanest son of a bitch you have ever met.
Great actor with cunning face.

I could see a sequel spin off from this. Lead the end of this film to the Garden of Eden and mankind's first sin.

This could be good but I hope Hollywood doesn't screw it up and take away from the meaning of the story. I bet they probably will tho because Hollywood has a tendency of screwing up classic stories.

Also of all the Jesus-centered films, I always wondered WHY they never green-lit a film for "Paradise Lost"

Seemed the most epic to me. Back in college- 2006 my friends and I always talked about how badass a film for that story would have been. I mean we're talking about- the most beautiful and perfect angel of heaven, falling prey to jealousy and ultimately rebelling against God with 1/3 of Heaven's angels, then being cast down to earth by Saint Michael and his sword. From that point on he forever preys on God's people- mankind...and will continue to try leading innocent souls to sin in God's eyes.

This film has the potential to be the greatest thing ever created. But I imagine...this will have THE toughest critics ever. I mean, it's religion we're talking about here and religion will always be a controversial topic, especially when being made into a big screen film.

I've had this picture on Facebook since like...I first created the thing back in like 2007 or 2008 (can't remember) but this was always my favorite.

Ah ok now the [frick]ing loads dammit. That above has been my consistent favorite picture. I mean, the sheer power in the way Lucifer is staring down God. So opposing...so strong.

I am in no way a supporter of Lucifer but I respect him. For a guy to be so bold and so brave as to take on GOD itself...AND being so charismatic so as to lure 1/3 of the angels down with him.

Just incredible.

They are putting a lot of work into this, as it has an ungodly amount amount of production time.It's supposed to blend live action and motion capture.

The schedule involves 20 weeks of pre-production, 8 weeks of principal photography and 72 weeks of post-production.

That's why it's not coming out until late 2013.

Why do they always make Lucifer scary or ugly? He's is a liar and deceiver. If he even exists, he'd appear beautiful, perfect, flawless; like some hot superfical biatch that you just can't say no to.

Or like any one of those three hot chicks in the movie 'Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar'. Completely had me fooled!

I HOPE PROYAS FOLLOWS THE BOOK AND GETS THE LOOK OF IT RIGHT, WINGS AND THE FALL, JUST THAT OLD EPIC GOTHIC LOOK TO EVERYTHING. THIS IS SUCH A EPIC TALE....PROYAS IS THE RIGHT DIRECTOR FOR THIS. Also I hope that they don't portray Lucifer as an Anti Hero or a revolutionary because he is bot he is pure evil. All bad things in the world are because of him. Bradley cooper is an interesting choice tho I think he'll do fine. maybe this role will prove whether or not he can play the Crow.

@Intruder: I would have to disagree with you (respectably, of course) that "this film can actually change movies forever if done right." Seeing as the story has already influenced a number of films, literature, and music. I would find it hard to see how the film will influence future films if the poem it's based on has already changed the face of art as a whole... But, hey! I could be wrong, we'll see... I'll definitely be there opening night!

I sat in on this panel at SDCC and it actually sounds pretty interesting... The concept artwork they showed looked great, but I'm not sure about the angels having dragonfly-like wings... Maybe it's because I'm not familiar with the literary work?

One thing that was clear, Bradley Cooper REALLY wanted to play Satan for this film (he's a HUGE fan of the literary work).

You know... It's funny how almost nobody here knows that Lucifer was not some monstrous, ugly demon. He was the angel of beauty and music, which means he looks very appealing to the eyes if ever truly seen. He does not have red skin or horns or bat wings. You guys are something else, lol. No knowledge whatsoever.

Interesting... first time hearing both of this movie and the poem though I've heard/seen the phrase "Paradise Lost" plenty of times. Looks like I've got some reading to do.

And Cooper as Satan? [frick] yeah! He's got the hots, charisma and "evil SOB" angle to him to pull it off flawlessly. Like some have said, I've always found it weird how Satan has been portrayed over time as this hideous monstrous devil. He was the most beautiful angel in heaven and that more than likely didn't change just because he was cast out. I at least learned that much in church. :-P
