This is a scene from the world's fair where Steve tried to reenlist for the 5th time. As you can see the "cameo" is actually the original Human Torch, an android also known as John Hammond. Here is some info on the character..

The "Human" Torch was actually an android created by scientist Phineas Horton. He possessed the ability to surround himself with fire and control flames. In his earliest appearances, he was portrayed as a science fiction monstrosity, but quickly became a hero. The Human Torch was one of Timely Comics' three signature characters, along with Captain America and Namor the Sub-Mariner. Like many superheroes, the Human Torch fell into obscurity by the 1950s. In 1961, Marvel recycled his name and powers into a new, unrelated Human Torch, a member of the Fantastic Four (who actually was human). Unlike Captain America and the Sub-Mariner, the original Human Torch has had only a small presence in the post-1950s Marvel comic books and is closely associated with the Golden Age.

Phineas Horton created the Original Human Torch, therefore through the process of deduction, tis the Torch himself.
marvel72 - 7/25/2011, 6:11 AM

Hooray! I always thought the original HT was better than Johnny Storm.
BIGBMH - 7/25/2011, 6:20 AM
It would've been funny to see Steve stop there, look in and then shake his head like "That's just ridiculous."

I just saw the movie. It's the best CBM of the year. I would give it 8.6 out of 10.

Johan, i'm an inbreed redneck and saw it in the article.

I freaking loved the movie btw. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I remember this part and i remember seeing Synthetic but i couldn't catching anything else. Thanks for the screen grabs.
CorndogBurglar - 7/25/2011, 7:22 AM
@ ror

thanks, i was getting tired of all the people saying there was no Human Torch cameo. but it shouldn't be surprising since tons of people on this site don't really know comics.

@ BigBMH

that wouldn't really have been funny because thats not the Human Torch that Chris Evans played...
JosePetrelli12 - 7/25/2011, 7:29 AM
@BIGBMH - Hell yeah!!
Tymminator - 7/25/2011, 7:34 AM

Spotted this easy. :) @ TEA--good job easily explaining the history, Kudos.

Loved the movie , but not for the reasons others might. Really enjoyed Steve's reasoning for wanting to join. His heart. Evans really brought it to life and kids today could do good to learn a lot from what he says. I liked TLJ and Haley Atwell , they were really fun and the whole thing was good fun.

The action was solid and the fights were good ,although , as much I liked Hugo Weaving as RS, the script could have gave a bit more evil or dangerous edge.

My REAL one problem with the film was that , while I can understand you don't want Cap defeating Hitler and winning the war by himself ( because its disrespectful) It would have been nice to have had him address the the subject of the Jews and the Holocaust at some point. I do realize this is nicely set up as happening ALONG SIDE the events of WW2, it would have really brought home the darkness of the fight.

Man....I have to see this at least a couple more times

Let's get an Invaders movie with:
Namor
The Original Human Torch
Toro
The Black Captain America
Miss America
Union Jack
US Agent
Whizzler
CorndogBurglar - 7/25/2011, 8:54 AM
my only complaint with the movie is that I wanted to see Cap doing more acrobatic type things. They showed him jump high and far a couple times, but when he was fighting, i expected it to be more like Blonskey in Incredible Hulk. The way he was doing flips things.

thats just me though.
jjmeylar - 7/25/2011, 9:17 AM
I saw him and totally geeked out.
TheMyth - 7/25/2011, 9:39 AM
I spotted this right away. I had an old comic fan sitting next to me in the theater (which was sold out and half my friends that went had to see a different showing) and he leaned over to ask me what was so special about that egg that I pointed at with such obvious joy. I told him and got kudos from an ole boy comic lover I'd never met ;P

Spiderboy, you are scum. Anyone who would STEAL a CBM online doesn't deserve to share this site with the rest of us.

this completely went over my head when i saw it. its funny cause i walked out and said to my friend that it would have been cool if this had been two movies and at some point we see the invaders. im glad it was the way it was, but it would have been cool to see namor on screen as well, hopefully he will tie into the marvel universe at some point.
JackMan - 7/25/2011, 10:56 AM
His name is "Jim Hammond" not "John Hammond" like the caption says.
