Well, perhaps controversially for some, Heath Ledger's take on the Joker in The Dark Knight is the winner with 953 Votes (31.69%). I'm sure we will see plenty of "Yeah, people only voted for him because he died" but they didn't, they voted because he was excellent in the role. Now he wouldn't have been my first pick. That went to Christopher Reeve as Superman and he comes in second with 633 Votes (21.05%) and in third place was ol gravelly voice himself, Christian Bale as Batman with 601 Votes (19.99%).

Here are the results in full..

I'm afraid I couldn't fit Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox on the screen cap! He had 21 Votes (0.70%). You might have noticed Peter Sarsgaard and Kim Basinger came in last with only 3 and 2 votes respectively. I will honor that with a LMAO since I hated both of their performances.

leo888 - 8/18/2011, 4:51 PM
Ledger was the best thing on TDK but I will never forget Reeve's performance as Superman.....
RyanLantern77 - 8/18/2011, 4:53 PM
gary oldman baby

Denn1s - 8/18/2011, 4:53 PM
superman. reeves of course. bale? not so much. not enough detective. as for heath he was incredible but he was not the joker we all know...
SigmaCenturion - 8/18/2011, 4:55 PM
haha bullshit
RorMachine - 8/18/2011, 4:55 PM
Mrnofear, um, that The Killing Joke version is actually the one Ledger was most like. The multiple choice past thing? Trying to corrupt just to prove that anyone is capable of becoming like he is? (Gordon in Killing Joke, Dent in TDK), the dilaog? The "two sides of the same coin" thing with Batman?
SoulAllFlush - 8/18/2011, 4:56 PM
@MRNOFEAR

The Joker is the most re-invented character in comic history. He has gone from one extreme to the other. You're point is invalid.

Although I will say for me the winner should have been Gary Oldman. But Ledger's Joker is nothing if not iconic.
marvel72 - 8/18/2011, 5:02 PM
is anyone surprised to many nolanites for someone else to actually win.
AsianVersionOfET - 8/18/2011, 5:02 PM
@RyanLantern77, eff yeah. Leon is one of my favorite movies of all time, Oldman is flat out amazing in it. And yes, I voted for him as Jim Gordon.
BooYah - 8/18/2011, 5:03 PM
BS
Checkmate - 8/18/2011, 5:17 PM
Not who I would've chosen, but it's whatevs.
1. Christopher Reeve
2. Gary Oldman
3. Mark Strong
4. Cillian Murphy
5. Michael Gough
MJPETTY7 - 8/18/2011, 5:18 PM
I'm sorry, but Gary Oldman's portrayal as Jim Gordon is closer to the comics than Ledger's as Joker. Christopher Reeve wins this one guys.
KilledHal9000 - 8/18/2011, 5:19 PM
Really?
Ryguy88 - 8/18/2011, 5:22 PM
He's the only one to win an Oscar for his portrayal of a comic book character so you can't go wrong there.
TheDarkKnightWing - 8/18/2011, 5:29 PM
Oldman FTW!!! That man is a beast of an actor. A BEAST!!!
JR - 8/18/2011, 5:30 PM
wow Chris reeve in a close second to Bale Bats, how time change, people go see the Supes movie (1978) forget the monkey suit and just focus on the Chris Reeve performance, ill just turn around and ignore this poll happened.....
JR - 8/18/2011, 5:32 PM
btw Nicholson Joker is as good as Ledger Joker they're just simply different, my comparison between them is 50-50
MisterJay - 8/18/2011, 5:32 PM
helll yeahhhh!!! ledger performenance was more than perfect he didnt just play the character he helps to the evolution of the character!! ... and make an epic classic of this movie..... dc fans should make a religion of ledger ...
jjmeylar - 8/18/2011, 5:46 PM
He was represented HORRIBLY. The acting was great but he was NOTHING like the character. I knew that this would be the choice, but that's only because too many people don't think into the question.
DEATHbyEXILE - 8/18/2011, 5:50 PM
Joker=Anarchy. Heath nailed the character.
alucard365 - 8/18/2011, 5:51 PM
@RyanLantern77 Gary Oldman - EVERYONE ! ! ! I Love The Professional. Damn i was hoping for Christian Bale, but Heath did a good job as well.
kookevin3 - 8/18/2011, 5:56 PM
Heath was great, just not a great representation of his comic counterpart. I guess people didn't understand the poll.
Action - 8/18/2011, 5:57 PM
Heath Ledger was an excellent joker, Heath was the joker.
juggy4711 - 8/18/2011, 6:14 PM
I agree with Ror 100%. My vote went to Reeve but I am not surprised Ledger won and can't argue he wasn't fantastic.
JokerFanHAhaHA - 8/18/2011, 6:20 PM
I HONESTLY think he only won the oscar because of his death. He's not like the comics, He's NOT like The Killing Joke incarnation (multiple stories is only a SMALL detail, folks. Lots of people used it) and it's not enough to label this as THE BEST REPRESENTED DC COMIC CHARACTER ONSCREEN. His portrayal was SO different from the Joker everyone knew BEFORE this movie came out, I don't count it as Joker. I count it as an original character that they WANTED it to be LIKE Joker. But instead just called it Joker anyway. My vote went to Michael Keatons Batman. He was dark, he was brooding, he was a detective. And he DIDN'T sound like he took a screw to his throat. Plus his lines as Batman were little to none. Leaving BATMAN much more mysterious as he should be.
ClarkFarley2012 - 8/18/2011, 6:30 PM
Reeves for me. Look @ the artwork in Superman Secert Origins. They drew Superman off of Reeves. He will always be the best Superman, and not because he was the first. As far as Heath as the Joker..he was a mix of different incarnations of the Joker.
THABATMAN - 8/18/2011, 6:39 PM
wow I loved his portrayal of the character, but I don't think he should have won. He was definitely in my top 5 reason of loving TDK, But Aaron Eckhart is so underrated in that movie for Harvey Dent/Two-Face

I'm tired of Reeve..... just sayin and

Gordon is another great portrayal in the Nolan movies..

@Marvel72

Do you hate TDK, Heath Ledgers Portrayal as the Joker, or Nolan all together.. What is it that you hate so much about this series
AlienRobotZombieOverlord - 8/18/2011, 6:45 PM
1940s cartoons of Superman were the best cinematic representation of any DC character ever. Oldman as Gordon #1 live action. Keaton was actually better than Bale.
brewtownpsych - 8/18/2011, 6:48 PM
people who don't like heath ledger's performance are basing it on how different he was from the comics ... personally, that doesn't matter to me, what a great "interpretation" it was, whether spot-on to the comics or not. keeping it slavishly close to the comics would have been boring if not ridiculous. this realistic, chaotic and creepy version was unreal. still, reeves for the win. and don't forget that terence stamp guy as general zod -- he is general zod. not sure how the new guy will ever top that.
bfprimetime - 8/18/2011, 6:53 PM
I'm sorry but Jacks version of the Joker showed no acting skills. It was just him with Joker makeup. Heath was unrecognizable as the Joker, acting at its finest. Please don't ever compare the two.
DarkKnight23 - 8/18/2011, 6:54 PM
Prisoners of the moment, nobody beats Reeves' Superman. Oh and as a side note, Batman fans owe a debt to Michael Keaton. Thanks for delivering Bats from the cheesiness on the 60's. his performance is grossly underrated.
EntertainmentAddict - 8/18/2011, 7:03 PM
I know it was only on TV, but why was Lynda Carter not in the poll? She was absolutely perfect as Wonder Woman.
twiztidEssex - 8/18/2011, 7:38 PM
Wow A WHOLE lot of poser dark knight fans that know little about Joker on this poll, Beyond Killing Joke, Ledgers performance was more Norman Bates than anything. Reeves..No debate.
marvel72 - 8/18/2011, 7:39 PM
@ THABATMAN

no i don't hate the dark knight i think its a good movie but not as great some like to believe it is.

things that i don't like about the dark knight

-the suit-too much armor, has blades that shoot out of gloves, very hard too move about in it effects the fight scenes, can't really see the bat emblem like you can on keatons suit.

-bale & that stupid throat cancer voice-it annoys me but it get to the point where i'm actually laughing at it because it sounds so stupid.

-batman imposters that really bothers me i think it sucks.

-batman actually leaving gotham - doesn't he go to china or somewhere like that, didn't seem right seeing batman outside gotham.different if it was say a justice league movie where his with other heroes.

-heath ledger as the joker - he was good in the role but he mumbled his way through the film & sorry his performance was not oscar worthy.we all know why he really got oscar.

-nolan can't direct a fight scene.

-batman is meant to know what 140 martial arts or something like that, but gets taken out by some dogs.

-falling 80 storeys hit a roof of a car with another person & not a single scratch.....nolan & realism again.

-general public vs arkham immates on the ships, these prisoners are nasty bastards not one of them thought about trying to get the remote & blowing the ship to bits, why would they care they're not gonna get out on good behaviour they're probably lifers.

i think thats about it the dark knight 3/5

also i like a couple of nolan films memento & inception are better than the dark knight.
PurpleHaze92 - 8/18/2011, 7:47 PM
Christian Bale as batman????? wow you could tell thats not biased at all. (Sarcastic)
PurpleHaze92 - 8/18/2011, 7:51 PM
If anything, Christian Bale as batman has been twisted and warped in all the wrong ways just like any other Nolan character. Thats why i have no hope for DK3 or Man of steel. The whole point is that its a comic book, thats why they and movies were created. To escape this realistic bullshit ass world. What nolan has done is completely blasphemous, and anyone who condones his changes or embraces them should be [frick]ing ashamed of calling themselves a comicbook fan. And if you disagree, that just shows you how right i am....
thatcoldblackcloud - 8/18/2011, 7:52 PM
Heath as Joker? Uh, I dunno, I mean his interpretation of the joker was terrifyingly brilliant, but the comics verion is nowhere near as twisted, dark abd creepy as Ledger's.

PurpleHaze92 - 8/18/2011, 7:55 PM
i meant Nolan's batman, not Christian as batman...
RunDTC - 8/18/2011, 7:59 PM
The Dark Knight is my favorite movie and I loved Ledger's performance. but I voted for Gary Oldman. HOW DOES HE NOT HAVE AN OSCAR!?!?!

1. Oldman
2. Reeve
3. Eckhart
4. Strong
5. Neeson
6. Murphy
7. Bale
8. Caine
9. Ledger
10. Spacey
RunDTC - 8/18/2011, 7:59 PM
what dumbasses voted for Ryan Reynolds?
RunDTC - 8/18/2011, 7:59 PM
probably a bunch of 14 year old girls
HellScorpion - 8/18/2011, 8:08 PM
Heath Ledger? That is just terrible...
themayer88 - 8/18/2011, 8:14 PM
The Joker is a pshycopathic murderer. Ledger nailed it.
Oldman was my actual pick. glad to see him get some props from everyone else too. hes an amazing actor who really understood his character...actually pretty suprised that Christopher Reeve as Superman didnt come out on top tho. i thought for sure he would. not upset with the results at all tho
RunDTC - 8/18/2011, 8:33 PM
@lelh80: if I ever meet you in person, I'll go mediaval on your @$$!
40oz - 8/18/2011, 8:55 PM
Whoever says that Ledger didn't represent the "real" joker needs to read more comics. There isnt a "real" joker. The character has been around for decades and has been represented differently in almost every generation.
SuperCam17 - 8/18/2011, 9:02 PM
YES! He deserved it.
Kitedot - 8/18/2011, 9:02 PM
I'm sorry but I'm a Keaton fan. When i saw Batman one. I was like that.. is batman. Short quick knockdown punches. Rarely spoke but when he did, it did not make me want to rip his throat out. Also I liked the costume more than this Puma/panther looking one we currently have.
Kitedot - 8/18/2011, 9:13 PM
Brandon Routh, good superman. I dont blame him but the director/writer. They made him play Christopher Reeves Superman and not his own.

Bale- good bruce wayne, I can't say a good batman
Gary Oldman- I was pleasantly surprised. Great Gordon.
Ryan Reynolds- would be a good Kyle, not a Hal.
Mark Strong- Sinestro, Best part of the movie.
Batman5 - 8/18/2011, 9:14 PM
as much as i love bale, the people got it right, ledger is the best so far.
oreilly - 8/18/2011, 9:24 PM
Who the hell cares if the characters are exactly like they are in the comics! It's called ADAPTATION people!!! I would be incredibly bored if I went to see a Batman movie and it was written just exactly like a comic I've seen before. This poll got it right and Ledger should have won. Reeve is a close second though.
