POLL: What Did You Think Of Conan The Barbarian?

POLL: What Did You Think Of Conan The Barbarian? POLL: What Did You Think Of Conan The Barbarian?

Blasted by most critics, but some praise sneaking through from the fans. Was Marcus Nispel's Conan remake all you hoped for? Or was it driven before Arnie's classic, crushed and defeated?

Feature Opinion

If haven't had the chance to see this yet, but I will even though the review have been less than positive. To put it mildly. Anyway, lets hear what you guys thought.

When the movie was first announced fans were not too pleased as many felt that John Milius's version with Arnold Schwarzenegger was the definitive one, no reboot needed. Now this is of course a silly attitude to have without at least waiting to see how a new movie would shape up. But then Jason Momoa was cast and things got even worse. I admit to having serious doubts even when Pathfinder director Marcus Nispel was revealed to be at the helm. Momoa gained a few converts with his impressively ferocious turn as Khal Drogo in Game Of Thrones and is by some accounts the best things about an otherwise disappointing flick.

So do you doubters feel vindicated? Do those that like it thing it's being torn apart unfairly? Was it just an average action flick? Vote below.

Saw it yesterday. It was okay, nothing special. I'm a fan of the character, and it was kinda dissapointing. Was hoping for something more. Momoa was great though. If they ever make a sequel, get better writers and director.

Exactly, Momoa is a beast and loved the look of the movie. Would love to see it get a second chance, just work out a better script.

Could have been better.

ALOT... better

Nispel was totally wrong choice as the director.
Robert Rodriguez would have been cool.

I really enjoyed this and Jason Momoa rocked. I liked that he didn't try and copy Arnie's version and went his own direction. The Scenery was fantastic as well. I liked that it was CGI heavy as the stunt work was awesome. The story was a little weak though and there are other flaws but I hope a sequel is made. If not then I look forward to seeing Jason Momoa's next project. Maybe he could come back as a zombie in Game of Thrones and eat the Mountain.

This was not supposed to be a mindless
action movie. It is supposed to be more
like GLADIATOR, a bigger movie like the
original, a more involved script of CONAN
THE CIMMERIAN, a highly intelligent barbarian
who later on became the KING OF AQUILONIA.

This is supposed to be the launch of a
franchise, a series of deeper, richer movies.
It should have had an A-LIST lead actor and
an A-LIST SCRIPT & DIRECTOR, not just a mindless
revenge movie with bad actors and a lesser
director.

How disappointing! CONAN deserves BETTER!
This was just rushed, badly written, badly acted,
badly directed B-MOVIE trash!

I hope to goodness there is NO SEQUEL but I
seriously don't think we're going to have to
worry about that! They'd be suicidal to make
a sequel to this garbage!

The movie was awesome. Momoa was way closer to the Conan from the books then Arnie ever was.

I can't believe some people on here are saying they should have gotten an A list actor, WTF what A list actor would you want for the part? Brad Pitt LOL. Dumb Asses. Momoa was perfect as Conan.

@Knight3000- I'm all for that, but I know Conan forward and backward,so if Conan ,the REH Conan in his literature and admittedly in Dark Horse's transcription, isn't depicted accurately on film, then I just find myself sitting there pointing out all the contradictions I see and can't focus on the film. For example,I just read Conan Road of Kings #7 where Conan is asked by Prince Arpello,"I like the way you handle yourself, Cimmerian. And I'd wager you can wield that sword just as well.." Conan responds:" There are men in hell who would agree with you ,Prince". That's Conan. Clever, wry, cunning, intelligent, resourceful plain-speaking but profound non-the-less.
Ideally, someone like Ridley Scott or Niell Blomkamp should direct and Peter Jackson's writing staff should script the screenplay of an original REH story- maybe combine 2- and put THAT on film.

The look of the film was great and Momoa was good choice in the leading role.

Bad script and bad director can really ruin a movie thou!:/

It was pretty cool.. not the best but I enjoyed it. I simply took it as an action film, nothing wrong with that.

@AlexDe
Very true.. a bad script and director can ruin a film, but I gotta say Momoa owned as Conan.

Ok so I have been waiting for this film for a long time and it did
Disappoint. The acting was bad and instead of making
A film that was dark and fantastical in a brutal way, they just did a film like the
Scorpion king but with blood.
I did like Momoa as Conan though. He really felt
Like he showed the essence of conan, its just too bad he had a poor
Script to work with, I don't remember even hearing him mention crom once.
It disappointed me in the same way spider-man 3 did when venom didn't even
'Say we are venom'.
Overall it was a film that could have been so much more, let's just hope we don't
Have to wait another 30 years for another version of Conan on the big screen because
I don't see a sequel happening for this one (and if there is it will be a straight to DVD
Disaster).

So whether you loved or hated the movie it looks like most of us can all agree Momoa was awesome and needs another shot with a better script and director.

WTF is everyone complaining about???? If you are someone that enjoys movies that have only three really expensive action scenes in between nothing but boring dialog, an extravagant love story and needless filler, then I can see why you don't like Conan. For the rest of us, I recommend it.

This was a good old fashion movie, start to finish. It wasn't great but it wasn't terrible like everyone claimed either. The movie was fast past, which is good. Im tired of sitting the theater for two and half or three hours. The slow scenes were over shortly after they started and we were back to the action. The action sequences, for the most part, were realistic. Even when the main female is fighting, its realistic(though her acting wasn't great). Shes not the usual “Ive never used a sword before”, then next scene shes fearlessly killing like a pro. I didn't have to stomach someone spinning around and bending over backwards in a slow motion “matrix” like nonsense. There wasn't any comedy paired with the action like in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” or “Prince of Persia” either. Someone swings a sword and someone dies, simple as that. I was also relieved there was NO LOVE STORY. Just some old fashioned shagging and a see you later.

The movie played out like an old Conan comic. Jason took a lot of classic Conan poses as well as utilized a unique sword fighting technique that only Conan uses in the movie. He looks and moves like Conan to a T. I was afraid that the blood and beheading would be over done and cheesy but I was wrong. It had its fair share of blood, but it wasn't exaggerated like a crappy horror flick(SAW).

If you went to see a new version of Arnolds Conan, I can see why you are disappointed. It is nothing like the original movie, but the original movie was nothing like the original comic. So decide what you're a fan of before you bash something. From what I can see, everyone that hates this movie is either a fan of the original movie or your just one of those people that are never satisfied with anything. Im not saying it couldn't have been better, but flat out badgering the shit out of the movie is uncalled for when its closer to the original classic story than anything else presented so far.

For anyone that likes to watch a movie without almost falling asleep in between action sequences, likes things right to the point, and has respect for the original Conan stories(NOT the movies), you will like it. The movie is a solid depiction of a classic Conan the Barbarian.

@felixx ... lol, like anyboy wants to take the time to read your post ...

anybody who recommends this movie is either under the age of 12 or has no business giving their opinion. what a complete, utter, fantastic, steaming pile of crap it was. again, by going to this shit we are encouraging hollywood to make more mediocrity. i only went b/c my nephew begged me. when i saw perlman in that wig i laughed so hard my diet dr. pepper shot thru my nose.
