Joss Whedon Responds To Wally Pfister's AVENGERS Slam
It's not a lengthy quote, but the director of The Avengers keeps things very classy when responding to the TDKR cinematographer's opinion that the block-busting Marvel flick was "appalling". Read on to find out what he had to say..
In a week that saw quite a few negative - or negatively perceived - comments from various actors and directors about certain movies they worked on, probably the one to drum up the most controversy was Wally Pfister's slam on Joss Whedon's The Avengers. While participating in a Q&A last week at Ringling College of Art and Design, the Dark Knight Rises cinematographer incurred the wrath of many a fan-boy when he dissed the record breaking Marvel movie. ”I thought The Avengers was an appalling film,” he said, according to the Huffington Post. “They’d shoot from some odd angle and I’d think, why is the camera there? Oh, I see, because they spent half a million on the set and they have to show it off. It took me completely out of the movie. I was driven bonkers by that illogical form of storytelling.”
In fairness to old Wally, I think he may just have been talking about the cinematography, and not the movie as a whole - although he might have chosen his words a little more tactfully. Still, his opinion is his opinion, even if the majority of us don't agree with it. EW reached out to Joss Whedon for a response, and the director - who is usually only too happy to indulge his fans with his razor sharp wit - kept things very brief..
“I’m sorry to hear it, I’m a fan.”
As are most of us. Would something like this tarnish your opinion of someone's work, or the person themselves? Both? Neither? Sound off below.
