bigkev12 - 11/21/2012, 1:07 PM
Yawn DC did this better in '94 with Death and Return of Superman even Uncle Ben in heaven saying you got to go back.
sciencefriction - 11/21/2012, 1:13 PM
Darn, this might turn out to be a pretty powerful, and good, story yet.
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 11/21/2012, 1:13 PM
teared up? Am i the only one that read some cliche ham fisted tug-at-your-heart-strings pseudo-religious bullshit. Might as well have thrown in a copy of Enya's cd with every issue.
Spidey31 - 11/21/2012, 1:16 PM
So Peter Parker will never be spiderman again?
Hellsboy - 11/21/2012, 1:19 PM
if peter dies trying to stop ock then what?its not even a herioc death or if he just quits or is trapped somewhere then whats the point of having superior? peter cant stay trapped for ever while this other one makes a move on mary jane. i just dont understand where their trying to go with this.
xstryker - 11/21/2012, 1:19 PM

superotherside - 11/21/2012, 2:07 PM
Interesting... still it's stupid that he's quitting. Pete ain't no quitter. Sides he'll be back behind the mask after a few months.
CaptainObvious - 11/21/2012, 2:25 PM
"When this is over, you can rest. Someone else can be Spider-Man."

Umm, why? Uncle Ben, you are the same person who said "With great power comes great responsibility." So shouldn't Peter always be Spider-Man if he has the ability to do the right and responsible thing? If Peter survives the end of the story with his powers, why would he quit? It's also odd that Ben would be the one encouraging Peter to quit being Spider-Man. What exactly is it about this situation that would allow Peter to quit if he were to fix it?

This is the reason I'm against Peter being replaced. I wouldn't mind it if Peter was a fully-developed character and had learned something over the course of his journey. Marvel doesn't want the real-life drama of being an adult because they're afraid it will have a huge impact on Peter's life as a crimefighter. That's just hypocritical because Spider-Man is the character who is supposed to face the real-life drama of the world. That is why he has endured over the last 50 years: His ability to relate to the reader.

As if One More Day wasn't treacherous and unnecessary enough, now we have this nonsense. As much as I hate that story, the whole point of it was to preserve the character of Peter Parker for the next 20 to 30 years. Now,just five years later, Peter is being replaced. So that whole recton was completely pointless.

Where OMD went against Spidey's role of being responsible and selfless, Slott's story goes against his perseverance. As much as I talk about Peter never learning from his mistakes, he still has an unwillingness to quit. No matter how much he suffers and no matter how many loved ones die around him, he is always able to bounce back from tragedy and move on with his life. For Uncle Ben to tell Peter he can quit after this particular mission is not only contradicting the character of Peter Parker, it is contradicting to the entire role of Uncle Ben: His death encouraged Peter to never give up and always try to do the right thing.

This isn't a story about how one hero must complete his journey that hasn't been written correctly. It's about Marvel's incompetence of not allowing their characters to grow like actual characters.

JDUKE25 - 11/21/2012, 3:13 PM
Interesting. Looks pretty good.
Adriel - 11/21/2012, 3:41 PM
I won't gonna lie, I almost cried here :'(

It's a shame that this will happen as consequence of a SHIT story.
PSummers - 11/21/2012, 3:51 PM
It would be awesome that Kaine helps him and becomes Superior Spider-Man
jimoakley666 - 11/21/2012, 3:53 PM
Actually looking VERY good.
spectre88 - 11/21/2012, 4:28 PM
I usually consider myself a softie. But when I read something that a bunch of other grown men say moved them and I myself am not moved....I must have a heart of stone.
DarkKnight23 - 11/21/2012, 4:38 PM
Damn $7.99?
Spideyguy94 - 11/21/2012, 5:16 PM
@captainovious spot on man. Spider-man has been pigeonholed by marvel into a
Position where writers can't do things with him because marvel doesn't consider it to be "relatable". I put this all down to that prick quesada, the man who thinks comic book fans can't relate to a married man, the most condescending thing I have ever heard came from that man.

If marvel get the marriage back together I might start enjoying spidey again, and it might be a long shot but I hope Peter and mj finally have kids, that's the next step for spider-man to grow as a character
PeterDarker - 11/21/2012, 6:01 PM
Jesus Christ. Only two times I've cried in the last 20 years and both are from reading Amazing Spider-Man. 911 issue and now this. Buying a couple copies for sure.
CaptainObvious - 11/21/2012, 7:10 PM
@SteveRogersSon- Give Batman some credit. At least he was a character who was fully developed and had a completed arc by the end. I wouldn't mind Spidey quitting if Marvel actually gave him a character-arc and properly developed it. Not recton it because they either don't know how to write a fully-realized Spidey or they don't have enough faith in their target audience.
GetsugaTensho22 - 11/21/2012, 7:25 PM
That's the Cheesiest garbage i've ever read. Ugh!
supernaturalfreak - 11/21/2012, 10:54 PM
i seriously cant believe doc is is in peter's body and thats who superior spiderman is.... SERIOUSLY!? THIS IS THE WORST THING TO HAPPEN TO COMICS SINCE GEOFF JOHNS
Jefferys - 11/22/2012, 3:15 AM
Some of the comments on this place seem pretty arrogant at the least. I know that this place is famous for its contributors and commenters jumping to conclusions sometimes, but most of comments here are jumping to ultimate conclusions. We're all complaining about where the story but the thing is, we don't know. Plus that Classified sticker (which no-one here has even mentioned) seems to hold some speculation towards the future of Spidey.

Plus I hope Wilding or 72 sees this soon. I'm usually interested what they mention because I'm pretty positive they're comic book advocates.
0ptimusCrime - 11/22/2012, 3:22 AM
Men, hate the fact that peter wont be spider-man anymore
marvel kinda [frick]s it up,
i just hope superior spider-man is just an "in between" character and Pete will return as Spidey as soon as possible

Peter Parker = Spider-Man
blackster - 11/22/2012, 8:13 AM
they'd better not kill off peter.

especially after doing OMD solely to revilatize him for '20 years'.

they'd better [frick]ing not.
spidey23435 - 11/22/2012, 9:03 AM
@Captain Obvious First off where have you gotten the crystal ball that Peter Parker will no longer be Spiderman? Slott says in Superior Spiderman that it will not be Peter Parker but he does not say Peter Parker will never be Spiderman again. So not sure where you have gotten the idea that Peter Parker is done as Spiderman. Secondly Ben says "when this is over" how do you know what "this" is, maybe its a specific battle or maybe he means when Peter dies, when it is his time to die not now but when he does actually die, but until then peter is spiderman. Lastly have you been reading this arc or are you one the of the typical spidey haters that got turned off by OMD or read about OMD on Wiki and are now an expert on every story arc that has happened since because you read a couple previews on here?
IDKwhatToChoose - 11/22/2012, 10:21 AM
Still saying it will be Parker behind the mask. Again like Jefferys pointed out there is a classified section from Uncle Ben. As well as Ben telling him he can NOT rest yet. I think when he comes back he will either have amnesia and not who he is, or be changed from his death experience to move to a more aggressive Spidey.
CaptainObvious - 11/22/2012, 10:38 AM
@HalloweenJack/Trudy- Looks like somebody is upset that I criticized their precious Marvel. I believe your more upset that I called out Marvel than I did Spidey. Not my fauly you a sucker for everything post-OMD even though Marvel had the character betray everything he stood for. I bet you think OMD is a great classic story.

@spidey23435- I actually own all the original issues of OMD. I stopped reading Spidey shortly after that. Spider-Man was the first comic I ever read. Just because I don't read the comic anymore doesn't mean I haven't been looking in on it once in a while.

"So not sure where you have gotten the idea that Peter Parker is done as Spiderman. Secondly Ben says "when this is over" how do you know what "this" is, maybe its a specific battle or maybe he means when Peter dies, when it is his time to die not now but when he does actually die, but until then peter is spiderman. "

Uncle Ben specifically states he can quit after he solves the problem involving Doc Ock.
spidey23435 - 11/22/2012, 11:14 AM
Where does he specifically state after the problem with OCK. Here is the entire convo:

Ben "Oh. Peter I hate to say this, but you have to go. You can't stay here."
Peter "What? I don't get to... After all I've... It's that one mistake isn't it? When I let you down. But I've tried, Uncle Ben i've Treid so hard.."
Ben "that's not it at all, boy you've more than earned your rest. And any other time I'd give you my blessing.. CLASSIFIED"
Peter "I Won't Uncle Ben."
Ben "Good. Now listen there are no scales you have to balance in my eyes. When this is over you can rest. Someone else can be Spiderman it's okay. Until then? You have one last thing to do."

So Unless you have seen the Classified part please in those words tell me where he says that he has to defeat Ock to rest. Also even if that is what Ben means, what would be wrong with him wanting that for Peter. Also wouldn't it be an amazing opportunity for Spiderman to progress if that is what Ben wants. At that point Peter could then finally be Spiderman for the sake of being Spiderman and not out of guilt of failing his Uncle and the words that he had for him before his death. Wouldn't it be a testament to the man that he has become due to Ben's upbringing of him, that now when he is not held by guilt or remorse to continue the trials of being Spiderman but still choses to do so.

Also you have not read the line since one more day which is what I assumed. If you have you would see the extremes that Peter is taking Ben's words to now. He will not let anyone die on his watch and when he does the guilt is tearing him apart. So maybe this is the writers way of removing that aspect where its not a choice Peter made out of guilt and remorse any longer but one he makes as a Man.
Parker2017 - 11/22/2012, 1:49 PM
@CaptainObvious Right on Captain I feel bad for spidey. He felt like he was growing a bit but not that much also, Uncle Ben never said "with great power comes great responsibility" That was in the Comic narration, But I like it when Ben said it in Rami's Spider-man.

It was still a nice to see SPOILERS: Gwen back and Peters parents, okay it wasn't fully closure cause it would of hell have more meaning if spidey grwe as a person, however seeing all those old characters again did bring a smile to my face.
TheAmazingChrisReeve63 - 11/22/2012, 2:05 PM
Spidey is the Man!! He's made my childhood so much brighter, memeroable, enjoyable, and amazing (pun intended, of course). Peter Parker will ALWAYS be Spider-Man. ALWAYS. No one else. So here's to the Amazing Web-head himself....Spider-Man!

Mega-Spidey bomb.

Celebrating 50 years of amazing, spectacular, marvelous Spider-Man adventures. Thanks, Stan and Spidey.

My friends, stay EPIC!

;)
Drittenz - 11/22/2012, 6:39 PM
I think I've got it: peter comes back, resurrected in a new, more powerful body (clawed fingers, etc.) And without his guilt and past mistakes weighing him down, he can focus entirely on heroics, maybe even kill doc ock and become a superior spiderman. Bam.
