Walt Disney Studios has just announced release dates and additional information for several upcoming films. Here is the press release in full, which gives us our first official synopsis one of the 2014 Marvel movies, Guardians Of The Galaxy.

THE MUPPETS 2 is now dated on 3/21/14.
MUPPETS 2 is produced by Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman and directed by James Bobin. The screenplay is by Bobin and Nick Stoller, who will also serve as executive producer. The cast includes Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell – and of course, the whole Muppets gang.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER (Marvel) will be available in 3D.
Releases on 4/4/14. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will pick up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. The film stars Chris Evans in the title role and will be directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo.

MALEFICENT is now dated on 7/2/14 (from 3/14/14).
MALEFICENT, the untold story of Disney’s most beloved villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty,” reveals the events that hardened Maleficent’s heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora. MALEFICENT will be released in 3D and is produced by Joe Roth and directed by Robert Stromberg, from a screenplay written by Linda Woolverton. The film stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (Marvel) will be available in 3D.
Releases on 8/1/14. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, based on the Marvel comic books of the same name, features an unlikely cast of characters who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. James Gunn will direct.

So nothing too Earth shattering, but at least we know for sure the team will be going up against some kind of cosmic big bad in Guardians Of The Galaxy. Rumors point to Thanos - and it would make the most sense - but are there any other possibilities?

MisterMagurlypse - 1/14/2013, 1:08 PM
THANOS!!! Ohhh Hell Yeah!!
soberchimera - 1/14/2013, 1:10 PM
Really worried about CATWS, I just don't think the You, Me, and Dupree guys can pull off a serious Cap movie. I really hope I'm wrong.
TonyChu - 1/14/2013, 1:12 PM
Captain America 2 is my most anticipated but at the same time the one I am most worried about.
WYLEEJAY - 1/14/2013, 1:16 PM
Their talking about the cosmic force of epic proportions in my pants.
DaenerysTargaryen - 1/14/2013, 1:16 PM
Here's hoping Cap 2 wont suck...but my gut is telling me it will and it will hardly and brutally.
CoolantTech - 1/14/2013, 1:17 PM
Meh.. I was hoping for something a little more
ATrueHero1987 - 1/14/2013, 1:19 PM
I heard somewhere that the villain in GOTG could be Korvac.
jazzman - 1/14/2013, 1:19 PM
@soberchimera

no one believe Joss Whedon could pull of The Avengers but look what happen lol
Durf - 1/14/2013, 1:21 PM
Cosmic force aye? Thanos or Korvac would be likely culprits

@yoss: LMFAO!

@Claire: have faith, have faith...
MB007 - 1/14/2013, 1:21 PM
I'm not familiar with the Guardians of the Galaxy-comics, but i love that piece of artwork and i really hope it has something of a Star Wars-vibe to it. As for Cap 2, i'm really excited for it, i loved the first one and he's definitely my favourite Avenger, so i really wanna see him throw down with the Winter Soldier!! :-D
WYLEEJAY - 1/14/2013, 1:21 PM
I treat films based on comic books just like the books. They cant all be perfect, so I just try to enjoy the characters. Nothing could ever be as bad as ghost rider sov or electra. I guess I shouldnt say nothing could.
CoolantTech - 1/14/2013, 1:24 PM
We need This movie sometime in the future

Nomadic1 - 1/14/2013, 1:25 PM
I don't think it will be Thanos as the main baddie. He will play a part, but I think he will be manipulating someone else. Saving Thanos for a big showdown in Avengers 3.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 1:29 PM
Yeah, for GotG, all I can think of them going up against is either Thanos or Krovac, really. D@mmit, I wish that it was Galactus, but nooooooo.....We get a [frick]ing puffy-puff cloud..... :P

While nothing is too revealing on CA: TWS, I'm still pumped for it. Despite the Russo Bros. directing this film, I still have faith that it'll do just as good as its predecessor. Plus, it's based on a d@mn good storyline, so I hope nothing goes wrong with that. :)
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 1:32 PM
@Nomadic - True, true. That will likely happen in the near future. But I just hope we at least get some few lines from the big guy. I wanna hear what the [frick]er sounds like. Hope it's like a deep, booming, menacing voice. Just something that'll make me jump or scare living sh!t outta me. :)
SageMode - 1/14/2013, 1:34 PM
Cool. Nothing too revealin.

YOSS

You're randomness is unrivaled my friend. .
FirstAvenger - 1/14/2013, 1:34 PM
That told me nothing.
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 1:34 PM
D@mn, Honey Cocaine sounds like a horrible stripper name. XD Jeezus........
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 1:36 PM
LoL, both @yoss's and @Saint's randomness are both unrivaled. They're just masters at saying/posting the most randomest sh!t on this site. ;)
SkateandDestroy88 - 1/14/2013, 1:39 PM
Damn Yeah for Guardians.

It will probably so awesome compared to anything we've ever seen

Cosmic force of epic proportions. Hmm sounds neat.

I'm sure Captain America will be awesome. I know i will see it in theators and buy it on dvd. Like all Marvel movies (marvel Studios) Mhahahahahah
EastcoastAvenger - 1/14/2013, 1:41 PM
Mind you that they will be defeating a cosmic force of epic proportions without the likes of the mighty Galactus or the Silver Surfer. Please buy them back Disney...
SkateandDestroy88 - 1/14/2013, 1:42 PM
Honey Cocaine. Now that sounds like the kind of broad that knows what's up . . I bet Axl Rose would be into a chick like that der-pe-der
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 1:44 PM
@cipher - Haha, good [frick]ing taste in music, bro. ;)
shangho - 1/14/2013, 1:49 PM
I thought Marvel reacquired the rights to Galactus?Either way all signs point to Thanos and here's hoping Adam Warlock makes an appearance!Even if its a mid credit one
MarkV - 1/14/2013, 1:49 PM
I can't wait to not see this. I guess Marvel has cash to burn at this point.
amxt - 1/14/2013, 1:53 PM
Can't be Thanos or Galactus. They said the bad guy would be DEFEATED!
DukeAcureds - 1/14/2013, 1:56 PM
Very good day today. First nyder's Star Wars and now a GOTG press release. I'm hoping it is Thanos as he has a lot to do with GOTG. It could be Annihilus, but then that kinda [frick]s up Josh Trank's FF franchise.
amxt@ They shoulda said Spoiler, really.
DukeAcureds - 1/14/2013, 1:57 PM
*Snyder's Star Wars
ATrueHero1987 - 1/14/2013, 2:01 PM
lol! Lola Monroe is aight but she's hella fine!

TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 2:05 PM
@cipher - Ehh, [frick] em. :P

Blast that stereo up and rock out to that music...

:P
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 2:08 PM
@Marvel87 - All that came to my mind when I saw that was just this....

XD
Fogs - 1/14/2013, 2:09 PM
THANOS. And a Nova cameo, you can count on it.
sicknimon - 1/14/2013, 2:14 PM
ADAM MAGUS!!!!!!!!!!!! kidding, but that would be awesome
DukeAcureds - 1/14/2013, 2:18 PM
I used to like a bit of Lil' Kim.
Angel Haze is pretty good. I get the feeling that she's faking being from the streets and is actually a spoilt brat, but she's a good wordsmith.
Ciphe@ As always, the very finest taste.
DukeAcureds - 1/14/2013, 2:21 PM
KamenRider@ My guess is that if they have the rights to Black Panther, the Skrulls and the Inhumans then they also have the rights to Annihilus. They would have the rights to Galactus, if he hadn't previously been seen doing his best impression of a cloud of dust.
ATrueHero1987 - 1/14/2013, 2:22 PM
@TheAmazingSpidey63 LMFAO!

@KamenRiderJ22 I don't think so. He's more of an FF character. :(
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/14/2013, 2:27 PM
@Kamen - Nah, bro. I don't think Marvel has the rights to Annihilus. Because he was introduced thru the Fantastic Four (Fantastic Four Annual #6, November 1968), he's part of the FF property, if I'm not mistaken. So if Marvel were to use Annihilus in GotG, they'd have to make a deal with Fox to use that character and give them a share of the money that they make with the film and its characters, or try and find a way to buy the FF rights from Fox to use Annihilus.
