Love both, but loved Trek since before Star Wars was thought of. Star Trek: The original. The classic. The best.

Star Trek. it simply always went outside of its little box to try things no matter how corny yet it worked. When Star Wars Tried you got JarJar, and everyone knows you never go full retard. A win for Star Trek

Star Wars no question. - Just because trek came first does not by any means make it "derivative". That's Bullpoop! so, Let's say in the case of the Dick Donner's Superman, because it was released first, all other superhero films are derivative of Donner's Superman? again, bullpoop. just because it was made first does not mean it owns the sci-fi genre. Shatner is an idiot

You know this whole argument is really just rediculous. Star Wars or Star Trek, hmmm which one is the BEST, ummm, how about they are both amazing in their own right, they are both completely different types of Sci-Fi stories, and therefore because we live in a time where you can choose what to watch freely, how about BOTH. Why is there a need to choose one or the other, my answer is they are both amazing, both have contributed to the entertainment industry in countless ways, and both deserve the highest level of respect from sci-fi fans of any type. I read Superman and I read Batman, what a shocker.

I used to "love them both equally", but the past 12 years has changed that. The prequels didn't have any magic, and while I support the upgrades to the effects, the tinkering of the original series is just too much. I own three diffent copies of the original series (two on VHS, one ond DVD), and I'll be damned if I'm buying the Blue-Ray.

Star wars has a cool mythology BUT with the recent movie of star trek and the way it has change to appeal to modern audience and especially star wars movie fans, star trek can become better or get star wars fans become a star trek fan. LUCAS is messing up star wars and I can't believe people bought that Blu ray for that price, if you want a new star wars that can compete to the new star trek, DONT agree with anything with George Lucas and buy his updates.

Babylon 5 baby :P Always gonna be about Babylon 5!
joke... Star Wars please. Star Trek is cool, but the universe is too expansive and shallow for me, I can relate in more ways to the SW franchise and its characters.

Poll shows how many idiots infest these polls and vote over and over and over again.
The Star Warts universe is SO mono-dimensional. N?o real depth, no real historic perspective.
Star Trek blows the Lucas abomination out of the water on EVERY element. The only decent Star Wars movie was the original, and now Lucas has [frick]ed that six ways from sunday as well.
Too many kids making their choices based on which toys they had growing up...it's like sayin Major Matt Mason was better than Citizen Kane.

"Too many kids making their choices based on which toys they had growing up"
Speaking purely on my own opinion, that's an incredibly ridiculous theory. and simply your opinion. sure the wars are heavier on merchandising than trek was. but all the more reason it reached more age groups and was embedded deeper in many many people's childhood memories then trek ever did, or ever could have.
" and now Lucas has [frick]ed that six ways from sunday as well. "
Oh of course he did. he added some extra special effects and dialog. so that obviously means he [frick]ed it six ways from Sunday. again, an incredibly ridiculous theory.

Hmm... Film franchises.
STAR TREK
The awesome- Wrath of Khan
The good- The Voyage Home, The Undiscovered Country, Star Trek
The Ok- Search for Spock, First Contact
The Bad- The Final Frontier, Generations.
STAR WARS
The awesome- A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back
The Good- The Return of the Jedi
The ok- The Revenge of the Sith
The Bad- The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones
For film franchises I'd go for Star Wars (Just).
But Television.
STAR TREK
The Awesome - Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The Good- Deep Space Nine
Ok- Voyager
Bad- Enterprise
STAR WARS
The Awesome- NAUGHT
The Good - NAUGHT
Ok- NAUGHT
The bad- Star Wars Christmas Special, The Clone Wars (TV Movie, also released in cinemas but still imo a TV movie)
So for TV series it's Star Trek by a country mile.
If I was to be pushed to pick one it would be Star Trek as there are so many awesome TV episodes from TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager and even Enterprise. I can also enjoy the Trek trilogy (2-4) and yes although not as good as Star Wars 4-6 there is still STVI, First Contact and the last Star Trek film. Although these are not all time sci-fi classics, they are still great films.
So for sheer weight of great work I'm going for Star Trek (Just).
The Awesome- Star

No, I said your theory was ridiculous in the sense that it makes no difference if people did or didn't vote for that reason. it's not as simple as "I like star wars cause of toys I used to have" that ridiculous. it was deeper than that. even and especially for the people who grew up buying those toys as a kid, people like myself. there is nothing idiotic about it. and it in no way proves or even supports a theory that trek is superior. Star Wars is and always will be leaps and bounds more successful than trek for the very reason that so many children have grown up on it. but success aside, it's my opinion that the stories and characters in trek never even came close to those in star wars. that's my opinion.

Star Wars. Star Trek is boring. Only exception is the new film. Oh, and the dude that played Thor played Captain Kirk Sr. which is an awesome bonus.

There is no saying one or the other is better cause they are different! One is based on humanity in the future and the other is a fantastical other universe!
Personaly I like them both but if i had to choose I would have to say "May the Force be with you"!

When I think Star Wars I can't separate the Extended Universe in my mind. The books and games flesh out Star Wars to the greatness it is. Star Trek on the other hand I haven only the shows and movies to go on personally. If I were to consider only what I had seen on screen Star Trek beats Star Wars hands down. Though to me the new Star Trek is just a fanfiction and doesn't count.

While I enjoy both they are two different creatures. ST is more based on a realistic future and ongoing issues of humanity as we know it. SW is based more on mythology and legends. It depends in which you connect with more. For me its Star Trek. I enjoy Star Wars, but for me Star Trek makes me think more about the human condition. That's what makes Star Trek not enjoyable for me.
