EDITORIAL: Proof That Laurel Lance Will Become 'Black Canary' In ARROW

That's right, I'm back with another editorial, with some reasons why we'll see Katie Cassidy's Laurel Lance take the identity of Black Canary in the CW's Arrow, even though her sister Sarah is currently wearing the mask. Hit the Jump!

Good day fellow readers, I'm back with another editorial, where I take comic characters, and describe some reasons why we could see them soon in different forms of media. Today I'll be talking about Katie Cassidy, who currently plays Laurel Lance in the well loved show, Arrow. Her sister Sarah, currently wears the mask of Black Canary, but I'm here to say that Laurel will soon take the identity. How? You ask. Read on for more! WARNING: This will contain minor spoilers.

Reason 1: Laurel Is Already Black Canary. In the “post-crisis” age, there are two people using the identity of Black Canary, a mother and a daughter. The mother's name is Dinah Lance, and the daughter's name being Laurel Lance. In Arrow, the names are exactly the same. So while I don't believe that Laurel and Sarah's mother will become Black Canary, I think that something could happen to Sarah, causing Laurel to put on the costume. Laurel is also Black Canary in the “New 52” comic series.

Reason 2: Somebody In ARROW Will Die Soon A few days ago, it was reported that there was a funeral scene being shot for the show, and fans are worried for the safety of their favorite characters, and I believe that the person they are burying could very well be Sarah, who is currently Black Canary. We learned in Episode 15, titled “The Promise” that Slade Wilson/Deathstroke has intentions to kill everyone around Oliver, and while Sarah promised that she wasn't easy to kill, she may be more vulnerable than we thought.

Reason 3: The Birds Of Prey The latest episode of Arrow was titled “Birds of Prey,” and in the episode, Laurel tries to prove to Sarah that she's tough, and actually does a pretty good job of it, even softening the heart of the Huntress. And does Sarah seem like the type to ever team up with Helena? NO. But Laurel is one to give second chances, and as she said, “it's not too late to turn around.” That basically says that Laurel is forgiving, and would probably fight alongside Huntress, and with Felicity, or someone else, making, the well known Birds of Prey team.

Great article Stark. If only I knew what it meant...

Gotta catch up.
GentlemanlyBatman - 3/30/2014, 2:29 PM
Nice theory. I agree. Here: take my thumb.
GliderMan - 3/30/2014, 2:41 PM
SCREW THE LAUREL HATERS!

I agree. I'm thinking a good way to do canary cry is to have that device that Sara uses, and some incident (perhaps at STAR Labs) causes it to become one with her.....

Dun dun dun

Well it was confirmed long ago that Dinah Laurel Lance will eventually become the Black Canary. I've been a strong supporter since day 1, even when her character seemed to go in the opposite direction and was handled poorly just to create tension within the show.

That being said, I completely agree on your third point. Sara and Helena's interactions were volatile and it really made Sara unlikeable. She wanted to kill Helena not because she was personally wronged (like Felicity), but it seemed like it was out of jealousy. It seemed like Ollie was doing everything he could to not hurt Helena and Sara clearly took it the wrong way.

Helena and Laurel's interaction began through hostility but there seemed to be some common ground between them. It's an interesting relationship that I hope is explored in the future once Helena continues to redeem herself.

Yeah Laurel would be awesome and a much better character if they gave her a "becoming the Black Canary" storyline.
And for her scream, someone could've adapted Sara's device into a necklace/choker that super enhances her vocal chords.

"for her scream, someone could've adapted Sara's device into a necklace/choker that super enhances her vocal chords."

That's a great idea CherryBomb.

Proof? What proof?

The proof that lies within your heart.

Hi Imgur!

That is a really good idea for the Canary Cry. It's either that or become a meta-human and it seems way too coincidental that Laurel develops powers that mimic her sister's distraction technique. Queen industries should just invent the thing and give it to Laurel.
Bread - 3/30/2014, 5:55 PM
1) This is not anywhere close to "proof" this is your own speculation.

2) Not gonna happen.
yonny616 - 3/30/2014, 6:35 PM
She'll be Canary and everyone saying otherwise is in denial.
agni17jun - 3/30/2014, 7:30 PM
She must be Canary in the coming future of the series or else the show's reputation of staying true to the characters can take a major hit. And i would like for both of them to stay alive and Sarah to pass on the mantle to laurel after she is trained by ted grant aka wildcat. I want Sarah to become the jade canary, a mantle used by someone else in DC comics. But if it ain't how I wish, I can still be onboard if they execute the death of Sarah and origin of canary(Katie cassidy) well enough. Somehow death of Sarah can help the dynamics too as her death with eventually provoke Nyssa to come back and with her the League of Assassins...Nyssa though released Sara from the pledge of allegiance yet I don't think that she will take her death so easily as to forgive Arrow for not being able to protect him.

I actually hope Laurel dies. I used to love her as a character in season one but now she is by far my least favorite character in the history of the program, including all of the villains that Ollie has faced. I absolutely despise her. If she's still on the show next year I'll stop watching.
McGee - 3/30/2014, 11:44 PM
That's some deep shit GliderMan.
Doopie - 3/31/2014, 2:41 AM
i think you're right
GliderMan - 3/31/2014, 5:00 AM
That doesn't mean the shit doesn't stink. Look, you know what I want from you, McGee. I want TDW review. Give it to me.
megabatfan - 3/31/2014, 7:15 AM
The proof that Laurel will become Black canary is that the show's producers said that she WILL indeed become Black Canary. Plain & simple. There's been several articles (even on this site) confirming this. Yeah I knw the producers can say one thing now and take it back (no super powers), but I don't think this applies.
Im just hoping they find a way to give her the real Canary Cry, rather than the sonic device that Sara currently uses
megabatfan - 3/31/2014, 7:21 AM
@ Bread, you need to catch up with your Arrow articles. Since season one the Producers have confirmed it.
@ CherryBomb --- YOU'RE HIRED! Best idea EVER!!!
Klone - 3/31/2014, 8:41 AM
She's annoying, but she at least she isn't an atrocious actress like the one playing that sister.
DrunkenNukem - 3/31/2014, 10:18 AM
It does makes sense @EStark...good editorial!
Spideyinthemcu - 3/31/2014, 10:32 AM
We need arrow to beat up Henry cavill
JorEllinator - 3/31/2014, 12:15 PM
I bloody well hope not. I hate HATE Laurel, I hope she's the one who dies.
CherryBomb - 3/31/2014, 4:11 PM
Haha thanks for the warm reception to my Canary Cry idea guys!
jlabatman - 3/31/2014, 4:53 PM
Would love to see Laurel take up the mantle and change her name to Dinah! I like Sarah in the role, but we all know that it wasn't going to last. Plus when Dinah puts on those sexy fish nets on those long legs and learns to kick some ass, it will be awesome to see!
