That is some damn beautiful artwork.

That art reminded me a little bit of "Scott Pilgrim". So, this is one of those " What If's?" Where Gwen is alive and now is the drummer of a band and MJ is the vocalist? Could this mean we'll probably see some girl-on-girl action in the future? I hope so... and I'm not so amazed of Gwen being Spider-Woman, I kinda expected it. But, what about Peter?
SpideyFan - 8/21/2014, 6:08 PM
Oh, Peter is the Lizard now!!! Dude, what a twist!!!
PAF - 8/21/2014, 6:43 PM
The colors really pop. I love it.
Owlman88 - 8/21/2014, 6:49 PM
they're trying hard to get this Gwen loook like Emma Stone
dethpillow - 8/21/2014, 6:59 PM
@SpideyFan - ha! Peter's the Lizard?
haha. i can dig that.

i love the art too.

i'd like to see Gwen snap Peter's neck as he's falling.
that's what i wanna see.

and see her cry about it and use it to give her character more depth.

Marvel should totally do a "What If Girls?" bunch of comics like that.

and not as a joke, i mean, but to actually see what it would look like to write females as self obsessed, moody, ugly, irrational and just crazy as male lead characters have the luxury of being and being understood and taken for deep.

and I'm not ragging on Peter. i mean the whole superhero thing in general.
Peter, Cap and Superman are my easy top 3. and especially Spider-Man.
Peter's always been way more mature and complete a character, I think, then we usually get to see in comic books. Superman and Cap too.

i think tons more interesting than brooding and conflicted heroes.

From the looks of little things in the art, it seems more like Peter was The Lizard, being killed in the fight between him and Gwen. Notice his picture in black and white on the billboard, the scene of Gwen holding him in her arms in the "Previously In Spider-woman" bit, and the newspaper headline "Stacy Stalks Spider-Killer"

@dethpillow
Making the characters female won't add maturity, or completeness.
It will add breasts.

Very little else.

Character are what they are, mate. People capable of writing fully realized, complete characters can do that regardless of something petty like gender. And when they can't? They can't. Its a shame, but I'm afraid the funny-book business attracts way more of the latter folk than it does the former.
MercSoul - 8/21/2014, 10:46 PM
@Owlman88 she doesnt look like stone gwen....
dethpillow - 8/21/2014, 10:55 PM
@OptionFour - oh totally, i don't think that changing someone into a woman would add anything to a bad character.

and i actually don't think most popular comic book characters are bad characters. they're kinda ridiculous if u think about them in a certain way, but it's a defeatist way to think about them. you can make anything seem stupid if you think about it long enough, i guess.

that's why it's great to be a human being.
haha.

but I guess i came off the wrong way on that, cuz what I actually think is that the reason that a lot of women and minority characters are not very interesting or at least not as interesting as the most popular ones. (of course there's tons of exceptions, but I'm talking in general and not just about comic books),
is becuz they are written as women/minority characters.

and this doens't imply any kind of purposeful plan, it's just that a lot of people when they write as themselves, are writing as a human being. well, i mean a lot of white men when they write as themselves are writing as a human being.

when they write a female character or a minority character, they maybe stop writing as a human being and they write as a female or a minority, whatever that means for them. and that's usually gonna be trying to be broad about things. whatever that means.

but the problem is too, is that women and minorities often end up doing the same thing to themselves. they are too conscious of bringing their "identity" into things. and people's "identities" are not what makes them human beings.
"identities" are what we make up for ourselves, in spite of being human beings.
it's just that white male "identity" is the given so that's the one place thing that is invisible basically.

and that sounds really offensive and racist maybe. but i am talking about the middle, and i am talking about everyone. everyone intersects in this middle. But we all exist in places outside this middle. and there's a lot of valid and great stuff going on outside there. but i'm just talking about the middle.

And a "What If Girls?" run of comics would serve to both annoy people who I think should be made annoyed more, and it would also just show how much of a difference exists in what's acceptable for a man to act like vs a woman, or one race vs another race depending on culture you're coming from.

dethpillow - 8/21/2014, 11:04 PM
and i agree with your response entirely.

but i mean...

imagine a movie about a genius who's obsessed with figuring out some math equation. and they get compulsive and schizophrenic, stay in their room for days on end, torturing themselves, ignoring their family, ignoring their hygiene and just being determined that they will solve this math problem. that it's what they were born for, it's the call of genius. and we see their behavior hurt their family in major ways, we see that the only thing important to them is this goal.

and they are like in their 40s and not that good looking or in shape at all.

and there's an archetype like that for weird, men who probably suck at math to grasp on to. and there's a romanticism that society lets them be comfortable with. but switch that to a woman, and no one is gonna wanna hear about you.

and i'm talking again about the middle. but the middle is not having that.

and that's an exaggerated example, but there's a whole ton of things that aren't that drastic that are exactly the same.

and there's a whole argument about whether that unconsciously limits all of us in how we live our lives, but to keep it about art, let's leave that out.
it just ends up making for worse stories.

but ultimately, you're right, most writers are gonna suck, and that's what you are gonna have regardless of anything else. but that could said about anything.

why talk about having a good story, or good dialogue, when truth is, it's usually just gonna suck?

and that's the truth but that's not any way to talk about how things might be best.

also, Gwen would never be on drums.
she would be on keyboards, i think.

i guess she has spider powers tho, so maybe that explains it.
KingRainbow - 8/21/2014, 11:09 PM
