STAR WARS Holy Grail Figure Up On Ebay
Quite possibly the most sought after toy prototype of our generation. Kenner's L-Slot Rocket Firing is up for sale on ebay.
Ever wonder what the original 1979 L-Slot Boba Fett action figure looked like? Well, here's your chance.
Now long gone, Kenner was expanding its Star Wars toyline in 1979 in preperation for the release of The Empire Strikes Back. To help build hype for the movie, the toy company offered an exclusive mailaway figure. It cost you four proofs-of-purchase, which you had to get by buying surplus figures. That figure was the mysterious new Boba Fett who first appeared the the infamous Holiday Special cartoon segment. The first promo card showed a rocket-firing figure, but the next card had a black sticker over that portion because they'd decided not to include the firing rocket.
Rumors persisted that a few got out to the market, but Kenner denies this ever happening. The figure was originally pulled because Kenner was worried about children either hurting themselfs (you'll shoot your eye out) or swallowing and choking on the rocket. Because of this, every Boba Fett sent out had the rocket sealed in place and the back was remolded.
Because of this, only a few dozen prototypes that had been made became sought-after collectibles most fans would never have a chance to own, let alone see.
The figure is being sold on ebay, but the $22,500 asking price seems a bit much. Either way, I'm sure some lucky (and wealthy) Star Wars fan will be purchasing it.
I've added the sellers video of it, but if you want to go see it yourself, it shouldn't be that hard.
