Fanboy Complaints: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
In the 3rd part of my Fanboy Complaints series I tackle some of the complaints thrown around about the finale of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy: The Dark Knight Rises! Click on but we warned, will include major SPOILERS if you've yet to watch the movie (as if!)
Hey ComicBookMovie community! Today I respond to some of the complaints throw around about the critically acclaimed blockbuster: The Dark Knight Rises. For some reason this is the most complained about movie in the entire trilogy, and probably the most complained about in the last decade. Anyway, I warn you guys again of the incoming spoilers. In the words of Bane: "Let the games begin!".
That isn't Bane:
Why isn't he Bane? He doesn't wear a luchador mask? Last time I checked there have been many different versions of Bane and what his mask looks like. I remember he wore like this a dominatrix type mask with a spiked collar in The New Adventures of Batman. Oh, he doesn't use venom like Bane does? Well if I remember correctly Bane quit using venom before the New 52 reboot since he started to see it as a weakness. Oh his origin is different? Well not really. He still escaped the prison, even if it was with the help of the League. He wasn’t the mastermind, just a henchman? Who cares? Bane hasn't really done anything since he broke Batman’s back. Since then he's been a mercenary or a henchman. He being a henchman really isn't anything new, just thank Nolan he didn’t make him like Shumacher Bane.
Batman would never retire for 8 years:
Tell that to Frank Millar. Oh that was an else world story? You guys do realize so is this film. Batman has quit, and eventually comes back, because he failed to save someone who is important to him. After The Dark Knight, Batman quit because he failed to save Rachel from dying, he felt responsible for Dent getting blown half to hell, and he also failed to save Harvey from Joker’s corruption which means Joker won. Also Batman was gone for 8 years, not Bruce.
Batman would never trust Catwoman:
Who said he trusted her? Before Catwoman takes Batman to Bane she says “still don’t trust me?” Batman didn’t trust Catwoman; he had faith that she would do the right thing. You can ask why he fell for the trap all you want, but Batman has fallen into traps before. I didn’t know Batman had a spidey sense.
Why doesn’t Batman investigate the people he hires?
This one is about Catwoman stealing his pearls and Miranda Tate being a shareholder. First Bruce funded the event; he didn’t hire the catering company. For all we know, Catwoman could have taken out one of the waitresses and took her clothes or she could have dressed as one and blended in. The Miranda Tate argument has more of a foot hold, but then again she’s a member of the League of Shadows and I’m sure they covered any tracks that could lead to her being discovered as actually being Talia Al Ghul.
Batman comes out of retirement for some jewelry?
This is the dumbest one I ever heard, but it was still thrown around. Batman doesn’t come back, Bruce gets the pearls back. Batman came back for the finger prints, not the pearls. Also they’re not just any pearls; they’re the pearls that Bruce’s dad gave to his mom before they died. I’m sure he’d go to hell and back for those pearls.
How does Batman heal his broken back so fast?
It’s a comic book movie; suspension of disbelief won’t hurt. Also many people think he healed his back in 3 days when in actuality he healed it in about 4 months
How did Bruce get back to the city so fast and how did he get in?
He’s Batman, that’s how. Seriously though, I didn’t hear anyone complain about how Batman found Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight after interrogating Maroni. I wonder why no one complained about how Batman disappears, or how he disappeared on the roof in front of Gordon and Dent turned around to find out he was gone and Gordon seemed to not know where he left to. Also in Batman Begins Bruce manages to travel by sneaking onto ships, and when Bruce leaves the pit there's 2-3 weeks left on the bombs timer. I'm sure if he traveld through ship he could have gotten to or a city near Gotham within 2 weeks. Also the bat was in the bat-cave last time we saw it, and maybe that's how he gets inside the city and parks it on top of Wanye Enterprises. Wayne Manor isn't in the city after all.
How did Blake find out Batman’s identity so fast?
Blake didn’t find out Batman’s identity in that scene. Sure I’ll agree this scene should have been fleshed out more or Nolan should have written that Blake was the kid that Batman saved along with Rachel in Batman Begins and he heard Rachel call him Bruce. Yet this is what we got. Blake found out Bruce’s true identity, he saw through the mask of Bruce Wayne to his real face: Batman’s face. Fans should have loved this scene since it's basically saying Batman is his real face.
Batman wastes time vandalizing a bridge:
This is Batman using one thing that was taught to him in the first film by Ra’s. He’s using theatrics. He was told that theatrics and deception would be powerful weapons. It gave hope to the city and got that cop guy to lead the assault on Bane’s army and it got Bane worried as well.
Batman would never quit (Ending):
Batman didn’t quit, he died. Batman died and Bruce lives on. Bruce finally moved on from his parent’s death as well.
So there you have it! My responses to some of the complaints about The Dark Knight Rises. Hope you guys enjoy the read and thank you so much for your time.
