FANTASTIC FOUR: Bizarre Dr. Doom Prototype Arm; Plus Nicolas Cage Concept Art

A must see! Check out a Doctor Doom test arm that was created by Steve Johnson's XFX studio during pre-production of a Fantastic Four movie, that would've had Nicolas Cage in the villainous role.

At some point in the past Steve Johnson's XFX studio made a pitch to be the special effects team for a Fantastic Four film. Based on an early script they created a rather bizarre, yet intriguing mechanical arm for Dr. Doom. A role that Steve Johnson says was at one point filled by Nicolas Cage ("Ghost Rider"). They even have concept art of Dr. Doom's mask designs based on the shape of Nic Cage's face. Thoughts?

"This arm and original painting, which the arm design was based on, were produced by Steve Johnson's XFX studio based on an early version of the script. They were made as examples and demonstrations on how Doctor Doom would have looked if the studio had done the final work on the character." - Elemental Auctions

"Doctor Doom Test Arm - created for pre-production makeup and effects tests, made when Nicolas Cage was original cast in the role." - Steve Johnson

While this is based on Marilyn Manson, Nic Cage was to star in this version of The Fantastic 4. It seems that anything that Cage was connected to at XFX was cursed. Superman, Fantastic 4 and Ghostrider were all conceptualized by XFX and none of the films were made." - Steve Johnson

Concept Art Created By Constantine Sekeris

If you're as much of a fan of Constantine's brilliant artwork I would suggest picking up a copy of his book, MetamorFX: Art of Constantine Sekeris.

Jollem - 1/14/2013, 4:12 AM

TokenNerd - 1/14/2013, 4:26 AM
Dear Nic Cage,
Please go back to playing weird bizarre original characters and leave the comic book movies for everyone else.

P.S- You can still play Big Daddy in the Kick-Ass series.
DannyDownSouth - 1/14/2013, 4:29 AM
@scurvydog: Agree! And that arm looks like something out of John Carpenter's The Thing (and not, you know, Ben Grimm)
MrReese - 1/14/2013, 4:30 AM
Why do they insist on Cage being in CBMs so [frick]ing much. -__-

Some of these concepts must be influenced by H.R. Giger. They look like they could fit right in Prometheus 2.
Jollem - 1/14/2013, 4:36 AM
anyone else notice the thing head in the pic with all the guys looking at the arm?
astromerc - 1/14/2013, 4:43 AM
This article just makes me hate Fox more.
Christuffer - 1/14/2013, 4:49 AM
Don't know whether to say fail or win
ClarkFarley2012 - 1/14/2013, 4:54 AM
Lol wow. This would've been a fail.
Jollem - 1/14/2013, 4:56 AM
yeah, [frick] fox news!

Jimdlux - 1/14/2013, 5:13 AM
Well, the 2nd Doom face doesn't look bad... the arm is bit over the top though...Only Doom's face was scarred...
tripttwe - 1/14/2013, 5:14 AM
I hope Doom and FF go back to MARVEL. The way Fox abuses these characters will leave a bad taste/impression on people's minds that can potentially screw them forever. No saying it's a horrible look, but if it ain't broke... PS: Good job on whoever that was that noticed Ben's face!
manofmidgard - 1/14/2013, 5:15 AM
as a science fiction bad guy, or a marilyn manson video, that is pretty inspired. but as doctor doom it completely sux donkey balls.

What CBM wasn't this guy after?? I wouldn't be surprised if was up for The Shredder.
Shadowelfz - 1/14/2013, 5:53 AM
Wow, shitty designs and Nic Cage as Doom? That would have been the worst CBM ever, next to Ghost Rider 2.
shamo - 1/14/2013, 6:15 AM
Cage is a good actor but he makes bad decisions.
jessepostal - 1/14/2013, 6:27 AM
Rat Fink on the wall!! Ed Roth rip
TheRedSkull - 1/14/2013, 6:29 AM
The arm design would work for the reboot, but on both sides. It's just someone with F'd up arms and all veins and blood and shizz popping out makes things look just way cooler looking
datNAMEtho - 1/14/2013, 6:31 AM
Bionic man haha
SpideyQuad - 1/14/2013, 6:42 AM
But Doom WEARS armor, he's NOT a cyborg nor altered by cosmic rays.
SpideyQuad - 1/14/2013, 6:45 AM
Shamo, like going batnuts crazy or full total retard.

"Everyone knows in acting you never go "full retard""!
jimoakley666 - 1/14/2013, 6:51 AM
The second to last is okay but... hmmm.
jimoakley666 - 1/14/2013, 6:55 AM
Also, my choices for Doctor Doom in a reboot would be Goran Visnjic or Christoph Waltz.
darkjoker1 - 1/14/2013, 6:57 AM
hahhaaha wow that mit have been paiinfull to watch with nic cage in it -_- thank god that did that not happen..
FirstAvenger - 1/14/2013, 7:09 AM
Turrible - Charles Barkley.
LEEE777 - 1/14/2013, 7:16 AM
Eeeek cannot see him as Doom, then again the guy from Charmed sucked argh!

Doom like Dredd should not show his face period.

I like CAGE but not for Doomie :p

Cool find!
zachman2013 - 1/14/2013, 7:21 AM
Well we got a fail of a movie either way.
pepe - 1/14/2013, 7:40 AM
Yikes!!! ... Even more stupid than Cage as Superman...
Supes17 - 1/14/2013, 7:41 AM
Tim STory still sucked at Fantastic Four
Christuffer - 1/14/2013, 7:42 AM
At least their version was a bit more sci-fi, unlike the ever so white-bread version that we did get.
caveman - 1/14/2013, 8:16 AM
tron21full - 1/14/2013, 9:37 AM

Necroxide - 1/14/2013, 10:49 AM

Optimus83 - 1/14/2013, 11:04 AM

Better Julian McMahon. ...equal to the comics
Durf - 1/14/2013, 12:43 PM
