FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot Unlikely To Share Universe With The X-MEN

FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot Unlikely To Share Universe With The X-MEN

A few weeks ago, we learned that Josh Trank's Fantastic Four weren't likely to crossover with Bryan Singer's X-Men in a future film, but now, thanks to an interview with writer Simon Kinberg, we're hearing that the two super-teams may not even exist in the same shared film universe! Check it out!

In an excerpt from a new interview conducted by ScreenCrush, X-Men: Days of Future Past screenwriter Simon Kinberg shared some details about his next film, the upcoming Josh Trank-directed Fantastic Four reboot. When asked if the X-Men from Bryan Singer's film would share the same universe as Trank's Fantastic Four, Kinberg had this to say:

"Well, it’s complicated. Because none of the X-Men movies have acknowledged the notion of a sort of superhero team — the Fantastic Four. And the Fantastic Four acquire powers, so for them to live in a world where mutants are prevalent is kind of complicated, because you’re like, “Oh, you’re just a mutant.” Like, “What’s so fantastic about you?"

ScreenCrush: “We have powers … just like that team down the street.”

Kinberg: "Right, right. Exactly, “So, I guess we’ll go to school now. We’ll go to Xavier’s school.” No, it is, they live in discrete universes."

Of course, this could always just be classic misdirection, but what do you guys think of the news? Will the X-Men and Fantastic Four stay in separate universes or will they crossover? What is Fox's secret Marvel project that is slated to release July 13, 2018? Sound off below.

In other news, The Fantastic Four reboot starring Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Miles Teller, and Jamie Bell has completed a week of shooting:

The film is expected to hit theaters June 19, 2015.
X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters May 23, 2014.

DrDoom - 5/12/2014, 3:25 PM
Who is the villain of the FF reboot? Is it Attuma?

Seriously, cancel this movie
ATrueHero1987 - 5/12/2014, 3:25 PM

So I guess we won't be seeing The F4 gravestones in DOFP then.

I loved his response: Rebooting a film that almost everyone loves was challenging but thankfully we are rebooting a series that almost everyone hates.
They could have gone on a "Celebrity Astronauts get Super-powers" route to explain why they are not hated like the X-men but that might be too similar to the first 2
DrDoom - 5/12/2014, 3:29 PM

[frick] YOU FOX

Oh man that sucks.

In much more entertaining news . . .

Cinematographer Larry Fong alluded to the teasing of the Batmobile's picture days ago on his instagram @unclewow:

That sneaky bastard.

"Well, it’s complicated. Because none of the X-Men movies have acknowledged the notion of a sort of superhero team — the Fantastic Four".

and now was their chance to introduce the F4, with the new timeline that will be created by DOFP it means a whole lot of events will happen, for example the birth of the F4 and them acquiring their powers however they have planned of doing that part..

Kinberg: "Right, right. Exactly, “So, I guess we’ll go to school now. We’ll go to Xavier’s school.” No, it is, they live in discrete universes."

the main difference between the F4 and the X-men is that the F4 are accepted by the public and dont have to hide their identities, where as the xmen, they are constantly prosecuted for being mutants.
im pretty sure there could be a story somewhere with that in mind that would pit the F4 vs the X-men and therefore having both teams share the screen in a movie..
McNyagano - 5/12/2014, 3:31 PM
Whatever, Fox needs to fire Kinberg-___-
marvel72 - 5/12/2014, 3:31 PM
well with that fantastic four cast i think i'm more than happy that its in a separate universe.
themidnightking - 5/12/2014, 3:31 PM
Some bullshit
WeddingTux - 5/12/2014, 3:32 PM
DrDoom - 5/12/2014, 3:32 PM
The fact that this reboot is getting made also makes it even more likely that we won't get a good FF movie for EVEN longer, because if this one bombs (most likely) then sure, Marvel will get the rights back, but will they even want to reboot it? The general audience will never go see another FF reboot!

[frick] OFF FOX STUPID [frick]ERS
ThePowerCosmic - 5/12/2014, 3:32 PM
These writers are all so stupid. Not that I want these films to crossover, but of course they can exists in the same universe.
The MCU is proof of it.

Imagine if Whedon said "we can't have hulk and Thor in an Avengers film because they are both super strong"! The characters stand out based on their unique personalities and characteristics. The FF would be so unique in that universe just based on the fact that they are nerdy humans that acquired powers.

These writers don't know crap about comics. This is why Fox fails. They don't understand a shared universe.
Scorpion8125 - 5/12/2014, 3:33 PM
Thank God!!!!

Keep the sh!tty FOX FF FAR away from our X-Men.

remembertheking - 5/12/2014, 3:33 PM
YESSS!! I was dreading a cross over. that would not be fantastic at all. keep the universes separate. Just because Marvel is doing it and WB is doing it we dont need everyone else to do it too. I already love the cast, the director and the tone of the reboot. I hope it delivers.
LEEE777 - 5/12/2014, 3:33 PM
It doesn't need to share the X-UNIVERSE is so vast... stupid using this crappy reboot hero team.

Look X-MEN's stuck at Fox like Spidey's stuck at SONY. At least FF and co got a chance to go bk 2 Marvel like Daredevil, Punisher, Blade did!!!

Ms Marvels to get your attention :p

MrBlackJack - 5/12/2014, 3:34 PM
WinterSoldier33 - 5/12/2014, 3:34 PM

at least dr doom will get a lot of screen time. With winter soldier it is 20 minutes of screen time then your out.
Tevii - 5/12/2014, 3:36 PM
There has yet to be ANY good news about this reboot... and unfortunately people will still go in droves to this garbage. The sooner this crap and Spiderman bombs, the sooner Disney will be able to get the rights back and do it all how it should be done
AlexanderLykins - 5/12/2014, 3:37 PM
This is now a Batmobile thread!
TonyChu - 5/12/2014, 3:37 PM
So just what the [frick] is Mark Millar doing for Fox?
Lozzy - 5/12/2014, 3:37 PM
Until I see an actual set photo, I still don't believe this movie is getting made.
Scorpion8125 - 5/12/2014, 3:37 PM
The X-Men movies have had their ups and downs, but they are a good moneymaker for FOX.

The FOX Fantastic Four have seen 2 awful movies and are rushing head first into another crapfest. Based on it's awful 90210 casting and info we've heard, it will probably be much worse than the other 2.

The FOX execs would have to be crazy to risk their big winner to try and float that nasty FF turd.

gamecreatorjj - 5/12/2014, 3:37 PM
I'm glad if only because maybe studios will start shying away from shared universes. It's not the only way to things.
FantasticSpidey - 5/12/2014, 3:38 PM
FOX shouldn't even be allowed to have either of these franchises. Give FF to Sony, and Put X-Men back with Marvel already.
sameoldthing - 5/12/2014, 3:38 PM
Why would FOX unite the franchises?...that would be the smart thing, the studio execs are ignorant asswipes.
WinterSoldier33 - 5/12/2014, 3:38 PM

i thought i was the only one
AlexanderLykins - 5/12/2014, 3:39 PM
I don't think we've seen the last of the Winter Soldier.
Ranger14 - 5/12/2014, 3:39 PM
Just because they haven't been mentioned prior, doesn't mean they can't be in the future, but then again, I prefer that they don't do it with this particular team, as Lee777 said.

"No, it is, they live in discrete universes." the comic book world they actually don't. But I guess in your world they do.
