Inventor, astronaut and scientist Dr. Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) is spearheading a trip to outer space, to the center of a cosmic storm. There he hopes to unlock the secrets of the human genetic codes for the benefit of all humanity. Reed’s crew for the mission includes his best friend, astronaut Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis); Sue Storm (Jessica Alba), Von Doom’s director of genetic research and Reed’s ex-girlfriend; and Sue’s hot-headed younger brother, pilot Johnny Storm (Chris Evans). With benefactor Von Doom (Julian McMahon) in tow, the four set off for the exploration of a lifetime. The mission is uneventful – until Reed discovers a miscalculation of the speed of the approaching storm. Within minutes, the event threshold is upon them. The space station is engulfed by turbulent clouds of cosmic radiation which genetically transforms the crew. Their DNA is irrevocably altered… and so is their future. Back on earth, the effects of the exposure are quickly revealed. Together, they turn tragedy into triumph.

Cast: Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis & Julian McMahon

Wasted opportunity.
Humperdink - 6/13/2014, 7:09 PM
'Tim Story's Fantastic Four...'

I actually paid to see this in the theater.
I wanted to kick my own ass.
Liverpool4life - 6/13/2014, 7:10 PM
Chris Evans was great as Johnny Storm. After that, sigh.
WeddingTux - 6/13/2014, 7:11 PM
"Kirby gave us our idea of the modern cosmic: Before him "the unknown" meant a 50s vision of clunky spaceships and green Martians, but in the 60s Kirby took the Fantastic Four on an unprecedented voyage into pop art psychedelia, turning humble comic books into 10¢ cosmic grimoires much as The Beatles did with pop records (he and Stan Lee were the Lennon and McCartney of comics.) It’s impossible to imagine the interstellar gigantism of Star Wars without Kirby’s epic visions. And Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968 could only play catch-up to Kirby – see his comic adaptation of the movie for a real mind-blower." -Esquire

Chillies wasn't bad. Fox went cheap on how the Thing should look.
Humperdink - 6/13/2014, 7:12 PM

I think he's fine, he could be a young Reed.

I do notice though from that photo he has some scars going on.
Wonder what the story was behind that?
vtopa - 6/13/2014, 7:12 PM
Jessica Alba as Sue Storm? BAD. CASTING.

JAC - 6/13/2014, 7:15 PM
Michael Chiklis' Ben Grimm was the only good part of that series.
Maven - 6/13/2014, 7:15 PM
There was a time when I liked this film...

WeddingTux - 6/13/2014, 7:15 PM
@Humperdink hold on I'm writing up a paragraph on how miscast he is as Reed
sameoldthing - 6/13/2014, 7:18 PM
I liked the cast overall..Evans was good as Johnny & Chiklis was good as Ben but The Thing should be CG to really work.
Ian was spot on as Reed,he looks just like Mr. Fantastic & Alba was miscast but looked so good in skintight uniform.

The writing & directing was weak..Doom should be so ominous & the feel of movie should be epic not campy.
sKeemAn - 6/13/2014, 7:22 PM
WHen they say Jack Kirby inspired, does that mean they went back to his old comic books and created movie concept art based off of that?
If that's true what the hell have they been doing this whole time cbm's have been out, making shit up? All this time they been making cbm's and none of the artist went back to the original source to see how they did it? I find a hard time understanding that.
SuperCat - 6/13/2014, 7:27 PM
The Thing >> Doo Doo Man
SuperCat - 6/13/2014, 7:41 PM
Doom's costume was the only thing I liked about this movie.
Mercwitham0uth - 6/13/2014, 7:43 PM

Me too, man.. me too.

Dr. Doom was a embarrassment to the source material, Invisible Woman was miscast, the others were ok for there roles but everything else went to shit.
sKeemAn - 6/13/2014, 7:45 PM
I actually thought the first F4 was ok. Jessica Alba was just a bad casting altogether. The relationship between Johhny Storm and the Thing was one thing they actually got right.
MercwithMouth - 6/13/2014, 8:21 PM
Didn't enjoy either movie...

But it must be admitted that from a visual standpoint, the FF films rival Watchmen for comic accuracy. They LOOKED perfect.
DrunkenNukem - 6/13/2014, 8:21 PM
I actually own the first F4 movie on blu ray...and its..not that bad..

Mothchild - 6/13/2014, 8:25 PM
Nice 3D models
ThePowerCosmic - 6/13/2014, 8:34 PM
It would be a dream to get a FF film closely based on the Lee/Kirby run. A 60s scifi cosmic adventure. These visuals are incredible and any FF film should be heavily influenced by his designs.
ThePowerCosmic - 6/13/2014, 8:41 PM
Worst part of these films:

> Pretty boy Dr. doom with crappy origin.
> Jessica Alba
> Galactus Fart

Best things:

> Silver Surfer
> Doom vs. surfer Scenes
Nomis - 6/13/2014, 8:49 PM
@ HypeMusheen - That's is freaking' AWESOME!!!!

Kirby really was the KING!

JoJo1982 - 6/13/2014, 9:05 PM
Both FF movies had good things about it
It's just the overall execution of it, is what's terrible about

Good things
Ben and Johnny's relationship
Silver Surfer..... Nuff said
Dr Doom's look
Fantastic car
2 or 3 decent action scenes

Everything else was pretty bad
MightyZeus - 6/13/2014, 9:09 PM
The concept art looks great however the films where bad.
wookiefit - 6/13/2014, 9:16 PM
@ SuperCat

I agree. Doom was the only thing good. The funniest thing was having a Hispanic actress pretend to be white with bleach blond hair and in love with a guy who looked 10-15 years older than her. These movies were okay at best for their time, but overall were terrible.

LA Kings win the Stanley cup in double OT.

Succthis - 6/13/2014, 9:28 PM
Save Ms Alba this flick was cast great. What could have been...
RexDartEskimoSpy - 6/13/2014, 9:42 PM

Doom would have words with you.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 6/13/2014, 9:55 PM
There are a lot of things they got right with Foxtastic Four, it's just that the tone was all wrong. That's what happens when you hire the director of fvcking Barbershop. Also, Jessica Alba. *sigh*
2gold - 6/13/2014, 10:24 PM
Julian McMahon was such a terrible Doom. Just absolutely terrible. He wasn't menacing in the least.
Humperdink - 6/13/2014, 10:38 PM

Well I actually went to see the second one too. Silver Surfer voiced by Laurence Fishburn?! I was there. I thought it couldn't be that bad.

Then came the giant thunder cloud Derp that was Galactus.

It was my own fault really.

I'm more optimistic about the new FF, though.
I know people don't think it will work, but I actually think a different direction is just what they need. I'm open to something different if it works.
Phlegmbot - 6/13/2014, 10:43 PM
@RexDartEskimoSpy - Those movies get a lot s--t from fans for being lighthearted, but I find that's unfair for 2 reasons:

1. The movie was not going for all the angst of so many other superhero movies. It HIT the tone it was going for perfectly. It achieved what it was aiming for.

2. The fact that these were the lighthearted adventures of a bickering family is EXACTLY what Lee & Kirby were doing. Re-read those early issues. Heck, re-read Byrne's run -- not one new idea in the whole thing (save for throwing She-Hulk onto the team), and the tone was even lighter than Lee & Kirby's.
Phlegmbot - 6/13/2014, 10:46 PM
@ Humperdink - Yeah, it's a shame they couldn't come up w/anything for Galactus. I think they were stumped: "Do we make a giant in a purple skirt or do something else altogether?"

Considering how fans reacted to the first movie, I think they made the safe choice and just kept Galactus hidden. There *were* plans for a Silver Surfer movie which never happened.

All of that said, based on the casting alone, it looks like these 2 FF movies are going to soon be considered "classics."
loki668 - 6/13/2014, 10:55 PM
The best part of these films was the dynamic between the Thing and the Torch, in my opinion. The worst part of these films was everything else.
jimoakley666 - 6/14/2014, 12:56 AM
I just read someone above name Ioan as Ian. Ha ha ha. Ioan Gruffudd is a Welsh lad, like myself and we have a fairly complex language, pronunciation and spelling system. I wonder how many people can properly pronounce his name?

Ioan Gruffudd is spoken like this = Yo-an Grif-eth
gurugeorge - 6/14/2014, 1:02 AM
Evans and Chiklis were pretty good, although Thing should have been CGI to get his massiveness. The Mr F actor was pretty good too.

Invisible Girl and Doom were terribly miscast, though, and the standard of fx throughout wasn't all that great.

But most of all, while there were a few good set pieces and fun moments in the first film, the scripts for both films were really, really bad, and the second was even worse than the first.
Niklander - 6/14/2014, 2:14 AM
Ah Julian McMahon would have been such an excellent Dr Doom instead they wrote him as a whiny bitch
MrSotoMan - 6/14/2014, 2:32 AM
I often prefer the first one more then the second one. I have seen this movie more then a billion times.

A decent Marvel movie, of course fans are hurt because of the portrayal of Doom.....Beyond understandable.
Succthis - 6/14/2014, 5:06 AM

Yeah, Doom was s sh!tshow.
Floke - 6/14/2014, 6:05 AM
Ironic that his name is Kirby yet he doesnt suck at all.
