Josh Gad & Josh Trank Deny FANTASTIC FOUR Rumor

Yesterday, I and much of the internet almost had a meltdown, as the website reported that Josh Gad, who voiced Olaf the snowman in Frozen, was being considered for the role of Ben Grimm/The Thing in Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot.

Just a day ago, made a very bold claim: "Josh Gad is Fox’s number one choice for the role of Ben Grimm." 3, 2, 1, internet meltdown commence! Come today, actor Josh Gad and Fantastic Four director Josh Trank ("Chronicle") have tweeted their denials regarding this new casting rumor. You can see both tweets below, and an update from Of note: the site is questioning the authenticity of the Josh Trank twitter account. Keep in mind, that same twitter account "debunked" Miles Teller's involvement, and we now know Teller is in the mix for Mr. Fantastic. So, make of that what you will.

Update: A person claiming to be Josh Trank has denied this rumor via Twitter. We stand by what was told to us, especially since additional sources have since come forward to confirm it, but it's a long casting process and we imagine various names are floating in and out of contention on a daily basis. -

Anyone with enough time and the will to troll can create a fake e-mail account to send you bogus info.

And then "back up" said info with e-mails from other fake accounts.
Curmudgeon - 1/28/2014, 2:42 PM
BTW, Trank's twitter is legit. It's been retweeted by Fox PR people in the past.
MexicanSexyman - 1/28/2014, 2:44 PM
I bet if some random site says that Adam Sandler will play Mr. Fantastic, many of guys will believe it and go ape shit even though it's totall bs.
MexicanSexyman - 1/28/2014, 2:49 PM

batz11 - 1/28/2014, 2:51 PM

I kind of want to start the Sandler/Mr. Fantastic rumor just to see how far that'd go ha
CherryBomb - 1/28/2014, 3:04 PM

I'm really hoping/expecting they'll just announce a really great cast and all these rumours were untrue, or a decoy.
dethpillow - 1/28/2014, 3:05 PM
i have never been so happy to be an overreacting fool.

@MexicanSuperman - not entirely, it actually takes a little skill to come up with the fake candidate for things like that, the one that is really gonna be stupidly believable enough that strike as possibly having a ring of truth.

it's matching the stupidity block for the proper stupidity hole.
i have no respect for stupidity artists, but it does take a little more than just randomly picking names. u know what i mean?

Adam Sandler as Fantastic wouldn't generate a true response of any kind.
dethpillow - 1/28/2014, 3:08 PM
Batman FTW - Sandler as Fantastic wouldn't get anywhere...
u need a better one.

if shia leboof hadn't already been in the midst of his own nonsense,
he would have been a pretty good candidate.

Sandler/Fantastic is too silly and also not stupid enough at the same time.

we have to remember that reality is stupid. if something is not stupid enough, it lacks the ring of truth ands believability.

@dominicmasontykes - i'm with you on that one, good choice i think. never heard of him before.

SpideyQuad - 1/28/2014, 3:11 PM
Score another one for the power of Comic Book's investigative professionalism!
CherryBomb - 1/28/2014, 3:11 PM
I say Trevor Donovan

dethpillow - 1/28/2014, 3:12 PM
you know what tho maybe Josh Gad would make a great Thing, now that i think of it a little more.

Humperdink - 1/28/2014, 3:13 PM

dethpillow - 1/28/2014, 3:13 PM
@SpideyQuad - i think you misunderstand the site. and the article last night too, i guess.
JossWeedOnMe - 1/28/2014, 3:14 PM
Shaquile O'Neil for Ben Grimm
CherryBomb - 1/28/2014, 3:14 PM

Trevor Donovan is 35 now so yeah, he's too old.
But they're gonna use his nice, deep voice mostly so it wouldn't matter.
GeekyCheekyChic - 1/28/2014, 3:16 PM
does anybody really care if Josh Gad is Ben Grimm ? once he changes to the hulking orange rock its all cgi from there so what is everyone hating ? his voice? that he is fat? He is a good actor(see Thanks for sharing) so if he voices a cgi Thing big deal. I have more of an issue with other casting choices.
JorL5150 - 1/28/2014, 3:22 PM
rosie o'donnel for the THING
TheBeard - 1/28/2014, 3:28 PM
^^^she already is
WeddingTux - 1/28/2014, 3:28 PM
@CherryBomb Ben is actually supposed to be around 35
the official age-range from Fantastic Four #1 (1961) are as follows:

Reed is 30-35
Susan is 19
Johnny is 17
Ben is 30-35

I actually think Reed could go a little younger, since its not appropriate anymore for a 30-yo man to date a teenage girl. Ahh, the 60's...
CherryBomb - 1/28/2014, 3:35 PM

Yeah for the original F4, he's the ideal age. BUT for Trank's F4, they want younger apparently.
CaptainAmerica31 - 1/28/2014, 3:41 PM
I don't think it's true, I really don't care who they get, as long as he can play Grimm well I don't care what he looks like.
CaptainAmerica31 - 1/28/2014, 3:42 PM
Yup this is a young FF team because that's what sells tickets so they're going to cast younger members to appeal to the Tween/teen demographic. Stupid, I know. But it's a world driven by money so let it be!
