Michael B. Jordan Talks FANTASTIC FOUR: Has "Original Johnny Stuff" & "Fresh Take"

Flame on! Those are the words fans are expecting Michael B. Jordan to say in next year's Fantastic Four reboot. Now the actor talks about "original Johnny stuff", a "fresh take" Fox believes in and advice from Chris Evans. Click on for more..

It's no secret that not a lot of people have been happy with the production of next year's Fantastic Four reboot, especially Michael B. Jordan being cast to play Johnny Storm, better known as the Human Torch. However, in a recent interview with the Source Magazine, the 27-year-old actor was able to answer a few questions pertaining to his role in the upcoming superhero film. If you're still on the fence about the actor being able to pull off the role, this might just convince you.

First he was asked if he felt relieved being able to talk about his role publicly when it was officially announced.

"Oh man! A huge relief. It was like…walking around knowing that for like a year since me and Josh Trank, we talked about this when he first got the job. It’s something that we tried to make happen. We knew we had a lot of obstacles in the way and a lot of mountains to move but, you know, for whatever reason things just fell into place and … [20th Century] Fox believed in the situation and believed in me and yeah, we got it done. So that’s definitely something that me and Josh [Trank] celebrated at the wrap. We were just like we did it."

Jordan also confirms that when he was first rumored for the role, it didn't necessarily mean he was cast yet.

"Not cast, but me and Josh [Trank] … I was his choice. He wanted me to play the role and I wanted to play the role. So it was something that he told me around his birthday about a year and some change ago, right after “Chronicle.” And it was just like cool…let’s try to make this happen."

When asked about his experience playing Johnny Storm, the actor replied with this.

"Yeah man it's been a lot of fun. Johnny Storm is such an iconic character. There’s a lot of personality traits and things to him that people are really going to look forward to seeing. Got a lot of original Johnny stuff in there and then you have – not a NEW take but a fresh take. We have a different take on different things as well. I could go on and on about it but I think it’s something that people will enjoy."

Jordan also reveals that Chris Evans, who previously portrayed Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) gave him advice, but not in the way that you would expect it.

"Nah. It is a reboot you know, it’s its own thing. It’s its own origins story. I did get a chance to talk to Chris [Evans] about it, I met him at this event and he was basically like, “Man I can’t give you anything.” He said, “You’re great, you’re awesome. Just do your thing. And enjoy it. It’s gonna be fun.” That was just a really cool piece of information, words of encouragement from the guy who killed the role. He really did a really great job and hats off to him with how talented he is cause he’s doing an amazing job with “Captain America.” I really enjoy those films as well so that’s kind of pretty much where that was."

Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released in theaters on June 19, 2015.

Yeah! Original Johnny stuff! :/
DeusExSponge - 8/14/2014, 4:29 PM
I'm looking forward to see his take on Johnny, should be interesting to see his relationship with Susan as well.
Emblemmaniac - 8/14/2014, 4:29 PM
While i actually is one of the few that has no problem with him as Johnny... I would rather have seen him as Cyborg or Static Shock
Bekss - 8/14/2014, 4:31 PM

There's no better phrase for this article

Not only do I like Michael but I think he'll be a great Johnny Storm. But it'll be cool to see the relationship with Kate and how everything pans out.

The leaked picture of the Thing looks awesome.
batz11 - 8/14/2014, 4:34 PM
I hope this movie shocks and awes me...at least Kate is in it...
GiantNerd - 8/14/2014, 4:36 PM
Michael B. Jordan: Hey Chris, I was wondering if you could give me some advice on playing Johnny Stor...

Chris Evans: Can't give you shit, but you're great. Have fun with that.
JAC - 8/14/2014, 4:37 PM
I hope it's good.

DrKinsolving - 8/14/2014, 4:39 PM
Original Johnny stuff? This also shows that he was picked because Trank wanted to work with him, because he worked with him in Chronicle and felt comfortable.... nothing wrong with that buttt....

I just want these rights to go back to Marvel. This might be a good movie but it won't be Fantastic Four, he should have just made Chronicle 2
thewonderer - 8/14/2014, 4:40 PM
I have to agree in that Michael B. Jordan is way too good for a character like Johnny Storm.

Would much rather see him as a better superhero. But hey, maybe his career will mimic Chris Evans and he'll get a better superhero down the line.

And I wish the trolls would learn more from Chris Evans "“You’re great, you’re awesome. Just do your thing. And enjoy it. It’s gonna be fun.”

Damn right Chris Evans, cool thing to say.

Jay12678 - 8/14/2014, 4:41 PM
I think this movie is going to surprise a lot of people just like Days of Future Past did.
McNyagano - 8/14/2014, 4:41 PM

I agree.
YoungThanos - 8/14/2014, 4:43 PM
Fcuk this reboot!
Revert back to Marvel!!!

Invictor - 8/14/2014, 4:44 PM
Just like Chris Evans, he might play as Cap one day after this role.

Abary - 8/14/2014, 4:45 PM
Wait, he's actually black? I though he was just dressing up for a costume party.

JoJo1982 - 8/14/2014, 4:47 PM
Why do I get a Marlon wayans vibe from him on this FF movie
AlexanderLykins - 8/14/2014, 4:48 PM
I guess I'll get us started. This is going to be terrible.

I'm hoping it's good but I have no faith in Fox. Even after X-Men: Days of Future Past and the Wolverine. I liked both of those but they just don't give me that sense of disbelief and wonderment that the MCU movies do.

Just my opinion.

JoJo1982 - 8/14/2014, 4:50 PM
Also funny that he's the best casting out of everyone else
Toby and Jamie are some good actors too
YoungThanos - 8/14/2014, 4:51 PM
In before the blatant Fox butt licking and pretending this film is anything but a sham.

I have absolutely no problems with MBJ, but a young Fantastic Four is uninteresting, honestly.
kong - 8/14/2014, 4:54 PM
I honestly want to know what facts back up the statement that this film will be bad? I really do? What will make it bad? Will it be bad? Or are fans complaining about changes and saying it's bad because of that? I'm not saying there aren't any, but I can't think of them off of the top of my head.

Oh and too all y'all hating on my ninja MBJ cause he's black playing a white character I want you to know one thing.

DangerRoom - 8/14/2014, 4:54 PM
Is it too late to recast?

Niklander - 8/14/2014, 4:58 PM
I like Michael B Jordan as an actor but a trailer has to convince me
dethpillow - 8/14/2014, 4:59 PM
@Jojo1982 - totally. Kate Mara seems interesting too. i still haven't seen a movie, but i like how she is in interviews. i think she has an interesting personality cast as Sue Storm.

when i'm thinking straight, i realize i gotta wait some look at this movie to really know what's going on. i hope it surprises me. i'm more naturally inclined to just say [frick] this, and want it back at Marvel who would definitely make a great real deal FF film. i think.

but in this case, there's some actual chance that we're gonna get something that we've never seen before and that it'll be great. and that's pretty unusual, i think. all these movies are always super hero movies. we could all imagine a great real deal FF film. it'd just be rad to see it.

but i cannot imagine what this movie will be if it's great.

and in a lot of ways, that's more important to me. let Marvel make their actual amazing FF movie that we've all been waiting for after, or sometime later.

this is such a weird combination of things, that how could you not wanna see what it might be like if it worked?

maybe those are common heard last words, cuz it really feels like a big old mess, but who knows
blackandyellow - 8/14/2014, 5:00 PM
Is MBJ still playing Apollo Creed's kid in the Rocky spinoff? That's the movie I want to see.
Khanlark - 8/14/2014, 5:07 PM
This movie will be great, and you know it.
My boy Miles is gonna nail Reed.
dethpillow - 8/14/2014, 5:10 PM
man if he was younger, he would kill it as Miles. i'm sure he knows how not to be cocky.

now that's something i would kill to see too, is a Trank directed Miles Morales Spidey film. and i'm just going by Chronicle, of course, but i loved that movie, and if you could nail the characters of Miles and Ganke like they did in Chronicle and Miles' uncle and stuff.... whoa. that would be such a good Spidey origin film.
TheRationalNerd - 8/14/2014, 5:12 PM
Film's going to rock I just know it. lol
TheRationalNerd - 8/14/2014, 5:16 PM
Oh yeah, I heard about Jordan playing that Creed role. He's gonna kill that one too, really glad to see African-American actors not being placed in these typical "product" roles. IF the Black Panther film is handled just as well as TWS it could really be a great step forward for African-American superheroes in Hollywood.
JoJo1982 - 8/14/2014, 5:21 PM
@ dethpillow

Yeah but GoTG really made me disappointed that, Fox still has the rights to FF and a lot of its cosmic characters.
I still have some faith that this could be a good movie but if they pull the whole "found footage" that would suck
DrDoom - 8/14/2014, 5:27 PM
Shit movie incoming.
ALmazing - 8/14/2014, 5:38 PM
Teen Thing looks kinda cool

DrKinsolving - 8/14/2014, 5:38 PM

When I watched GOTG, I actually thought of Mr Fantastic when Groot was fighting and extending/stretching himself everywhere, haha.... I have no doubt that Marvel would make an incredible Fantastic 4 movie, and the Fantastic 4 and their universe would fit perfectly within the MCU.... hopefully it will happen eventually
