Fox Confirms Development Of X-MEN: FIRST CLASS 2, DAREDEVIL And FANTASTIC FOUR

Tom Rothman confirms that work is ongoing with X-Men: First Class 2 and Daredevil, as well as a reboot of Fantastic Four. Read on for details on that as well as their plans to raise the standard of their comic book movies.

"We're trying like hell," Fox Chairman Tom Rothman told MTV Splash Page in a recent interview when asked about the status of a sequel to X-Men: First Class. "We're trying as hard as we can. We really want to do it. We're planning to do it." He also made it clear that its success has made the studio reevaluate how they handle comic book movies. "The reason, in addition to those two guys and Matthew Vaughn, that it was as good as it was that the script was really good. The key to making a great continuing franchise is to have a great script, so we're working hard on it."

While we already know that David Slade is hard at work on Daredevil, Rothman confirmed that they still hold the rights to the Fantastic Four and the studio are prioritising both of those projects. "'Daredevil' is still with David Slade. It's in development now. We're working on it and 'Fantastic Four.'" He added: "I think for all of us, the bar has been raised, so we've got to aim high now. Marvel's done a terrific job with their films. Where our Marvel movies are concerned or other movies like that. It's like what we had with 'Planet of the Apes' this summer. I think it's important for us to really aim high and deliver an A-level experience to the audience."




So, it sounds as if a summer of far more intelligent and critically acclaimed movies has resulted in Fox deciding to turn over a new leaf with how they handle projects such as these. The likes of X-Men: The Last Stand and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer made them money but also resulted in the studio becoming associated with poor quality blockbusters. Whether Daredevil and Fantastic Four will continue to set things right remains to be seen.

why can't they just devote all their time on x-men first class 2 & daredevil,so the fantastic four can go back to marvel.

When the [frick] should the bar not have been aimed high?! What a stupid [frick]in quote. It's taken somebody else (Marvel) taking care in making a decent movie for them to realise hey shouldn't waste millions of dollars on making a supposed cash cow?!

Put your all in to the movie from the outset if you're about to blow millions! That's why Marvel and the Batman movies have done so well...

I'm obviously going to see all of these movies but I still couldn't give a [frick] about Fox making anymore CBMs. They're just starting to disappoint more and more. Give the rights back to Marvel Studios.

EXACTLY.

And how many of you "fans" kept getting suckered into seeing these sh*tty movies over and over again?

And more importantly... how many of you will keep paying to see them once Rothman gets his way?

Fox will never learn, but then again, neither will comicbook movie fans.

It's funny, but I actually really liked FF: Rise of the Silver Surfer. I would like Marvel to get the property back (Thing needs to be CGed like Hulk).

I rewatched First Class the other day and I am getting more disillusioned each time I watch it. The script really isn't that good. The leads made the characters compelling, but the supporting cast really dropped the ball and the direction was really rushed and all over the place. Not to mention continuity errors. I finally saw Green Lantern last night, and THAT was more coherent of a story than First Class.

I hope they do make these movie and I hope they suck and that they bomb in the box office.

Then and only then will they sell them back to marvel. As long as they think that they can make money with them they will never let them go.

What is a marvel universe without Reed Richards, Dr.Doom, Galactus, Silver Surfer, Professor X, Wolverine and every other mutant. Or even Kingpin, The Hand, Stick and Bullseye.

Fox owns half of Marvel characters and most important character to the marvel universe at that.

This is why comics books are a superior art form. 4 or 5 talented people with a good vision can make an amazing story with amazing visuals, without having to kowtow to clueless executive tools like this.. A good story actually makes a movie good! Way to go Einstein! Whatever exorbitant amount of money they pay these people, it's too much...

It took them this long to realise that you can only make a good film if you start with a good script? WHAT THE [frick] HAVE THESE GUYS BEEN DOING ALL THIS TIME?! I COULD DO A BETTER JOB THAN THESE DIPSHITS! JESUS!

Anyhoo, I think Fox should just continue with X-Men and allow Fantastic 4 and Daredevil to return to Marvel Studios. After all, X-Men works as its own universe, but Fantastic 4 are Marvel's first family and their first real superheroes (since their previous ones came from Atlas and Timely), and there's great crossover potential with them, I would love to see a think tank between Tony Stark, Hank Pym and Reed Richards on screen!
As for Daredevil, he represents Marvel's ground-level heroes, and would not only show another side to the MCU, he'd also be able to crossover/cameo into titles like Heroes for Hire and the Defenders.

But, if Fox can really make good films out of these, and arent just bullshitting again, then let them do it. I still think Marvel having all their properties back would be too much to handle at this point, since they're still a fairly new movie studio. In fact, if Fox do start upping their game and producing great CBMs, I wouldn't mind Fox/Marvel Studios collaborations. If Fox were to lend their character rights to Marvel for specific movies, say a Civil War movie, each studio could provide half the budget, Marvel could develop and Fox could distribute. That'd play to both their strengths, because if there's one thing Fox is great at, it's distribution.

Fox have broken enough eggs to feed a nation for a week. If First Class is the first step toward better Fox CBMs, I'd say we're about to get some damn tasty omelettes.

Ok question i knowim goona get bashed but [frick] it....MARVEL STUDIOS doesnt always make the right decisions Ex:im2,portions of cap america, look how fast there shipping them out its like [frick]ing call of duty every year we get a cbm movie from marvel whose script isnt even superb imagine how great im2 Thor & cap wud have been if they wernt so money hungry & the biggest CBM MOVIE THREAT >>KEVIN FEIGE...by the way im not a (nolanite)im just saying the way i see it were screw anyway...as matter of fact just 4 kicks...somebody tell me how do you think marvel would handle an X_men movie????

FoX-Men has screwed up their continuity so bad they need to just let it go. It's not even X-Men when you consider how poorly most of the characters and relationships have been adapted. But it's franchising well for tripe. Not holding my breath.

DD and FF should just be given back. These two properties work so much better in a universe filled with like extraordinary characters. DD as the only superhero in his world weakens the street level heroics he focuses on. Also, it takes away the "Lawyer to the Stars" image he's had representing superheroes in court.

A good script= a good movie? What a concept! I wish that Spider-man, Daredevil, Fantastic Four, X-Men, hell even Ghostrider would have their rights revert back to Marvel but oh well, keep screwing them up, I'm sure that won't be to hard for them to do....

honestly, who cares if Marvel gets the rights back, Rothman sounds like he knows what they were doing wrong with previous movies and are trying to alleviate that, plus they know that it will make them an assload more money.

set the fantastic four in the era it came from ,steal any stan lee line and rip the king kirbys panels....fight the mole man first,as if the incredibles ending was just a setup for it,then bring in namor to steal sue,also a choreographed yancy street gang attack on the thing,just after he has beaten the molemans creature ,in which the thing gets his ass handed to him,johnny melts a hotrod in a drag race and reed designs molecules for the future supers to wear....and right at the end.....doctor doom in green cape and armour traps them in a room that is slowly dissapearing up itself.........cliffhanger...


to hell with supposed continuity and bringing it up to date......

@cbmvo- the first Marvel studios X-Men should take it back to the formation of the first team; Beast, Angel, Iceman, Cyclops, and focusing on Marvel Girl's intro to the school. Mutants hadn't exploded yet, dozens popping up all over, but still rare. Prof X is still recruiting and Magneto getting to mutants before him building a Brotherhood. You can seed the intro of mutants in Avengers movies and how Shield is reacting to it. The end would be an epic battle in the streets of a major city which outs the currently secret existence of mutants which leads to government intervention and Sentinals in the second film. Third film then goes into the emergence of the Giant Sized X-Men group of Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler etc which opens the door for a follow-up trilogy with the new team after a major crossover with the Avengers cast. Something like that. That's how I see it would go.
