Simon Kinberg Compares FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot to IRON MAN and BATMAN BEGINS

Simon Kinberg has been very busy for the past month or two, heavily promoting the latest X-film. Here, he speaks about Josh Trank's upcoming Fantastic Four film, talking about the tone, inspirations and Michael B. Jordan's casting: "I think he'll become the iconic Johnny Storm."

With shooting underway on Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot, writer/producer Simon Kinberg explained that Trank pitched the film on set of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Kinberg praised the "fresh" visio, saying that. "the tone of this movie will feel as unique as when you saw Iron Man, X-Men, or Batman Begins for the first time. It’s not as goofy as the first movies; it has humor in it, but the humor is much more real and comes from character, not pratfall jokes. It’s a much more dramatic film than it is a comedy." As expected, he compares the film to Chronicle, as well as "Raimi’s first couple of Spider-Man movies".

Of all the backlash towards the movie's casting, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch arguably generated the most. As Kinberg explained, the filmmakers "didn’t go into it saying we wanted to cast a particular race for any part. Josh had worked with Michael on Chronicle and I’m a big fan of Michael’s, so we knew he was the best actor for that part. We knew casting an African-American Human Torch would be news, but I can tell you it’s something that Stan Lee loves, and I can also tell you that having been on set and seeing Michael bring him to life, he’s really spectacular. He’s doing something really cool with the character that I think will become the iconic Johnny Storm." Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released on June 19, 2015.

Why couldn't the shit going down on Ant-Man's production happen here instead? :(
Blanka1212 - 5/28/2014, 4:41 PM
This started filming?

Shows how little I cared. It started with the casting of Michael B. Jordan and went own from there...
Brainiac13 - 5/28/2014, 4:42 PM
After DOFP......I'm looking forward to this movie.......You never know.. ;)
CherryBomb - 5/28/2014, 4:42 PM
I'm really excited for this now! Especially after seeing DOFP.
I've loved the choice of director and cast for this.

Also, the tone they're describing sounds perfect. I'm glad they're comparing it to Spider Man and Iron Man because with something like F4 which is science based (kinda) you need to keep it grounded for audience belief, but it definitely needs light humour involved like with Spider Man and Iron Man.

Like I've always said, say what you want about the average quality of Fox's CBM's, but the X-Men franchise has the most perfect tone for a CBM.

This movies gonna suck. [frick] it I guess I'll just stick to the originals as campy as they were, I at least know they're gonna be better than this shit.
WinterSoldier33 - 5/28/2014, 4:43 PM
this cast is so great, i think this will be a great trilogy or hexology
Brainiac13 - 5/28/2014, 4:44 PM
Nice find Staypuffed........You should be a Trusted User now....with all these articles. Thumbs Up! :)
Mike1100 - 5/28/2014, 4:44 PM
You took the words right out of me. I want to see this movie fail if for no other reason than to see The Avengers fight Galactus in a Marvel Studios film.
SonOfOdor - 5/28/2014, 4:44 PM
@BatManiac you're not alone on that one!
DrDoom - 5/28/2014, 4:44 PM

Movie is going to be shit.
AlexanderLykins - 5/28/2014, 4:45 PM
Wait and see approach for me. You can call it Fantastic Four, buy it remains to be seen if that's what we'll get.
Invictor - 5/28/2014, 4:46 PM
Not sure what the quality of DOFP has to deal with this, but I'm still looking forward to this. This film has made me very curious.
Nick56 - 5/28/2014, 4:47 PM
I like what I'm hearing. The unwarranted hate this movie is already receiving is pathetic really.
staypuffed - 5/28/2014, 4:47 PM
Thanks, Brainiac!

I like the director, tone and concept, but hate the cast. I'll wait for a trailer, but until then I'm not really excited for this.
MrBlackJack - 5/28/2014, 4:48 PM
"MBJ will crush it." Yeah!...What exactly am I crushing again?
MrBlackJack - 5/28/2014, 4:48 PM
Nice find staypuffed!
MrBlackJack - 5/28/2014, 4:48 PM
After seeing DOFP, I have much, much more confidence in this.
HurricaneXavier - 5/28/2014, 4:48 PM
Kate Mara is the only one of the cast that I approve of.
MrBlackJack - 5/28/2014, 4:49 PM
The screenplay in DOFP was spectacular!
ezio619 - 5/28/2014, 4:49 PM
berserk-the same person that wrote this simon kinberg wrote DOFP,
im still taking a wait and see approach to this but it has a talented cast and director and i dont mind the tone they are going for..need to see a trailer first but im much more curious of it after DOFP
AlexanderLykins - 5/28/2014, 4:51 PM
Agreed with the overall sentiment of your comment.
ezio619 - 5/28/2014, 4:51 PM
i think the tone he is describing seems more akin to DOFP tone and if it is that...i can dig it
dellamorte1872 - 5/28/2014, 4:54 PM
I def think this film will suck, an unrecognizable Johnny. Not to sound racist even if you want to paint me that way Johnny isn't black. And a realistic grounded tone isn't F4 that's one of the most scifi prevalent books. Space is seen a lot, aliens, cosmic everything. How is that grounded and realistic?
XF14 - 5/28/2014, 4:55 PM
Keep telling yourself that Kinberg. I'm more excited for Ant-Man, and I'm not excited for Ant-Man at all.
dellamorte1872 - 5/28/2014, 4:55 PM
Again why is everyone so quick to casually forget kitty can't travel through [frick]ing time?
soforizo - 5/28/2014, 4:57 PM

Is Simon Kinberg the only guy who gives interviews over at Fox now?

dellamorte1872 - 5/28/2014, 4:54 PM

I def think this film will suck...

Your mind was set even before this movie was announced. That's just how you roll.
CherryBomb - 5/28/2014, 5:00 PM
I want these costumes:

marvel72 - 5/28/2014, 5:03 PM
don't like any of the castings, especially michael b.jordan.the only good thing i can see coming from this movie is if they give us a cgi thing this time round.
ezio619 - 5/28/2014, 5:04 PM
SIDENOTE: also what do u think of the year so far ,in terms of superhero films? ,for me it has been a really good year so far, i LOVED Cap 2,its my favorite MCU film so far, I Liked TASM2 but it had big problems( i didnt care for max dillon, dr kafka, rhino were bad, rushed arcs for both harry and max) the film is all over the place but for me it came together well enough ,also id didnt think it was as tonally jarring as people were saying it was, the character moments, he relationships, the action, the performances, the humor(though some did fall flat for me) was well done..i think it has highest HIGHS of the any of the spider man films but it has the lowest LOWS aswell and i thought DOFP was just great, Cap 2 is still my favorite of the year mainly because Captain America is a character that i really respect and is close to my heart, DOFP is a close second and TASM2 is third, hopefully guardians of the galaxy can end the year for superhero films with a bang by giving us a good,if not great film!!!
Ramiel - 5/28/2014, 5:06 PM
DOFP was great. This, on the other hand, will be trash.
Omarvls - 5/28/2014, 5:06 PM
Fox/Marvel has done it
They have made the best X-Men film ever with DOFP
I can't wait for their shared universe
CherryBomb - 5/28/2014, 5:06 PM
CherryBomb - 5/28/2014, 5:07 PM

People said DOFP would be trash because of: Sentinels that look like vacuum cleaners, way too many characters, wolverine the star yet again and let's not mention .... "Urgh quicksilver looks awful this is why the movie is going to suck"
staypuffed - 5/28/2014, 5:10 PM
That's a really good point.
SuperCat - 5/28/2014, 5:11 PM
Can't wait to see this on FX!
soforizo - 5/28/2014, 5:12 PM
Btw... I'm not into changing the races of major characters either, but unfortunately this is where all Hollywood and comic books have been heading for a while now.
CherryBomb - 5/28/2014, 5:14 PM
Exactly. Looks can be deceiving.
WinterSoldier33 - 5/28/2014, 5:15 PM

this is not the comics, the movies are based on them but that is about it.
