THE FANTASTIC FOUR Will Be Converted To 3D; Simon Kinberg Teases Sequel Plans

X-Men: Days of Future Past writer and producer Simon Kinberg talks here about the grounded tone of Josh Trank's take on The Fantastic Four, and confirms that the reboot will be converted to 3D. He also teases plans for the sequel which has already been dated for a 2017 release...

In an interview with Collider, The Fantastic Four writer and producer Simon Kinberg was asked about the first few days on set now that shooting has begun in Louisiana. He was once again quick to point out just how different in tone Chronicle director Josh Trank's take is and seems confident that Twentieth Century Fox have got the characters right this time around.

"The energy on set is great. Josh Trank is fantastic on set. Really in command, really clear, and the thing that is most unique or defining about the new Fantastic Four is the tone. We’re approaching it in a much more realistic, grounded, science rather than science-fiction way. The playfulness or goofiness of those other movies is very, very different from what we’re trying to do, and that is true for the production design, the casting, the storytelling. But you never know until you get on set how it’s all gonna start to feel, and just seeing those actors and seeing Josh, the way he’s articulating the tone and the way the actors are executing it gives me a lot of confidence that we’ll actually be able to make a cool Fantastic Four movie."

In news which should surprise absolutely no one, the studio are indeed planning on converting The Fantastic Four into 3D, making this the first instalment in the franchise to be released in that format. While he seems confident that the reboot will look visually appealing with the addition of those uncomfortable glasses, the fact that it's being converted isn't exactly a great sign...

"We’re definitely imagining the story in 3D as we’re making it, and it has powers that are well-suited to telling the story in 3D—not just Reed, but you have somebody that is on fire, and that’s something that can be immersive and scary. The reason to use 3D in this Fantastic Four, I think, is to make the experience feel as immersive as possible, where you feel like you’re with the characters looking at themselves and looking at each other with these bizarre powers and feeling like they’re really interacting with you."

Finally, talk turned to the future, and with a sequel already dated for July 14th, 2017, Kinberg was asked if he already has some ideas in mind. As you cans see from his comments below (the full interview can be found by clicking the link at the bottom of the page), it does sound as if he has some plans in mind. What will they be? We'll just have to wait and see...

"Well I think with a lot of these movies you have a sense that if it goes well you’re going to make another one. If it’s a terrible disaster I don’t know that you ever get a shot no matter what the date is, but they have a lot of confidence in the movie and we have confidence in the movie. And what I like about it is, as a writer you can start to think about, ‘Well what am I building toward?'"

LOL! These rights are never going to revert back to Marvel!
Abary - 5/8/2014, 5:13 PM
I don't mind movies that are naturally 3D, but I can't stand when it is converted to 3D.
TheDarkPassenger - 5/8/2014, 5:14 PM
Eat shit.
Ignition - 5/8/2014, 5:14 PM
The level of "this isn't happening, the rights are reverting" delusion on the IMDb board for this movie is staggering.
JoeMomma29 - 5/8/2014, 5:14 PM
Sounds like they are going to milk this cow dry like Spiderman........I hope the movie is decent.
Lozzy - 5/8/2014, 5:14 PM
I hate 3D in general! It's a stupid gimmick that's been going on for too long now.
ALegendaryPanda - 5/8/2014, 5:14 PM
5 pages of relentless hate incoming!
Asterisk - 5/8/2014, 5:15 PM
Why not SHOOT it in 3D?

The first Amazing Spider-Man was filmed in 3D and it looked great. Why do studios KEEP INSISTING on conversion? I have no personal problem with 3D (it's a gimmick, but it can be fun if done right, but I do have a problem with shitty 3D.
JoeMomma29 - 5/8/2014, 5:16 PM
@ Ignition

Great observation, people are wishing or are in denial on this movie moving forward.

MrCBM56 - 5/8/2014, 5:18 PM
Now people can't stand movies converted to 3d. Almost every movie nowadays is converted lol.
batz11 - 5/8/2014, 5:22 PM
Damn Joe you're an instigator, lol...start squawking when DC puts out a decent movie (live action) other than Bats and Supes!

I think this is one giant conspiracy, it's like the movie "The Game"...The studio hired people to make it "look" like this film is being made, looking at the cast, it just can't be real!...

Ok, sorry Joe, and I'm secretly kinda intrigued by this movie...especially the cast...
MrBlackJack - 5/8/2014, 5:26 PM
"Kate in 3D, I'm in..."

batz knows what's up.
grif - 5/8/2014, 5:26 PM

TheDarkPassenger - 5/8/2014, 5:27 PM

That's the only reason I'd ever go see this. [frick] I'm conflicted.
DrDoom - 5/8/2014, 5:28 PM
Movie will be shit. Kate Mara isn't enough to save this thing.
HurricaneXavier - 5/8/2014, 5:31 PM

They clearly care deeply about this movie and its success..........................................
ATrueHero1987 - 5/8/2014, 5:31 PM
I tell you one thing, If this movie isn't great in my eyes, I will be completely done with FOX Marvel movies.
HurricaneXavier - 5/8/2014, 5:33 PM
Grif you are absolutely right. Wolverine works so well in the Avengers groups.
marvel72 - 5/8/2014, 5:33 PM
what if it bombs, still gonna move forward with a sequel?

blackandyellow - 5/8/2014, 5:40 PM
Stan Lee wasted his best cameos in the FF movies. Shame.
batz11 - 5/8/2014, 5:40 PM
Avatar, Transformers 3 and The Hobbit were best 3D movies imo, actually 'added' to the experience...
SugarYumYum - 5/8/2014, 5:40 PM
So I get to watch the CBM genre have an abortion in 3D? Oh boy! Count me.... OUT.
Wingding - 5/8/2014, 5:41 PM
Until the first cast reveal and trailer, I'm reserving judgment. Then I'll tell everyone if I'll be seeing it or not.
blackandyellow - 5/8/2014, 5:41 PM
Haha batz I have it on in the background.
Nick56 - 5/8/2014, 5:41 PM
Im optimistic about the movie. No need to hate this early on.
batz11 - 5/8/2014, 5:41 PM
*hell, stupid phone
JoeMomma29 - 5/8/2014, 5:43 PM
@ Batz

You are reading my comments wrong..... anyways like I have said before I will first in line to see this movie. Also I personally do not care if this does or does not revert back to Marvel, I just find it hilarious how people are dying to see a CBM fail.

Oh yeah and how can I complain about DC when we only get one movie every three to four years........
dethpillow - 5/8/2014, 5:45 PM
@batz - i think you're on to something there, there's something going on under the surface here.

Baton Rouge isn't that big of an area, it can't be that hard to get a job as an extra on this. i think we should in an operative, a pair of eyes, one might say.

i fear something truly ungodly may be happening there, even as we speak here now.
