Actor That Was The Glue Of LORD OF THE RINGS Has Died

We have some very sad news, Blanco, who played Shadowfax in the Lord of the Rings films, has passed away. He first appeared in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and was last seen in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003).

"Shadowfax! Show us the meaning of haste!"

When you think of celebrities best known by a stage name consisting of a single word, you think of Cher, Oprah or Madonna, but there is one more that should roll off the tip of your tongue, Blanco! He was the heart, soul and glue of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, but he tragically passed away a few days ago.

His caretaker, Cynthia Royal, explained to that Blanco had endured "serious issues with his intestinal tract and liver." Like a loyal friend, Royal stayed with Blanco til the bitter end. "Although my heart was breaking," she explains, "as my final gift to him, I stayed strong, balanced and focused, gently repeating “Relax Blanco. Let go. Walk into the light. Relax and let go” as the Blanco I’ve known so well and loved so deeply slipped away."

Blanco spent much of his screen time with Ian McKellen ("X-Men: Days of Future Past"). The two didn't always get along. According to sources, Ian wasn't fond of Blanco.  He believed Blanco's use of a mononym made him come off as a bit of a diva. Eyewitnesses say, Ian was always riding Blanco. Sometimes Ian referred to him by the derogatory term, "Nag." Yet nothing compares to the time when they had a dance-off, after Ian accused Blanco of having two left feet. To this day Peter Jackson, who judged the competition, says there was no winner, they were neck and neck.

Reports are still a bit hazy about his age. Some say he was 25 years-old at the time of death, while others have compared him to a 70 to 75 year old human. We wouldn't be too surprised if Blanco, like other celebrities, had lied about his age. Either way, rest in peace big guy. Time for Blanco to gallop off to the far green country under a swift sunrise.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - Frodo Baggins and the Fellowship continue their quest to destroy the One Ring and stand against the evil of the dark lord Sauron. The Fellowship has divided and now find themselves taking different paths to defeating Sauron and his allies. Their destinies now lie at two towers - Orthanc Tower in Isengard, where the corrupted wizard Saruman waits and Sauron's fortress at Baraddur, deep within the dark lands of Mordor.

Actors: Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom, Sean Astin
Director: Peter Jackson

Mercwitham0uth - 4/11/2014, 7:49 PM
Better ship that carcass off to France then.
Tainted87 - 4/11/2014, 7:50 PM
Nope, internal problems.
One of my exes LOVES horses to the extent that she couldn't give a f*ck about X2, but forced me to see Hidalgo. She probably only knows Tom Hiddleston as that one guy in "War Horse". I just remember her scathing comments about Shadowfax simply because of his color, or lack thereof. She liked em brown. I was like: "it's a horse...."
TheRationalNerd - 4/11/2014, 7:59 PM

Take your ignorance somewhere else. Totally uncalled for, that goes to anyone else on here making jokes about a deceased gracious creature. Why come here just to be a heartless asshole about it?
maninfinesuit - 4/11/2014, 8:04 PM
Lord of the Rings cannot be filmed. R.I.P. anyway, Shadowfax.

***Blanco had endured "serious issues with his intestinal tract and liver."***

Obviously drank all his fame and success.

I also thought Christopher Lee at first.

There was a really awesome doc on the extended ROTK dvd about the horses. If nothing else, that documentary made me think incredibly highly of Viggo Mortenson. But there's plenty of other material singing his praises.
Mike89 - 4/11/2014, 8:13 PM
for a second i thought this was an actual ACTOR not some horse.
NightForce - 4/11/2014, 8:13 PM
Lol "glue" you clever SOB
ruadh - 4/11/2014, 8:15 PM
Whether you see it as a joke that an animal has died or not, the "glue" joke is pretty tasteless. Really drags down a few notches.
legolad - 4/11/2014, 8:18 PM
Didn't even get a cameo in The Hobbit Trilogy...Peter Jackson is so heartless
thor2273 - 4/11/2014, 8:20 PM
I thought Christopher Lee died. I was ready to get sad because he's my favorite Dracula.
SugarYumYum - 4/11/2014, 8:21 PM
Poor little critter.

Must admit though the glue joke did make me giggle.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 4/11/2014, 8:22 PM
Beautiful horse. Poor thing
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 4/11/2014, 8:23 PM
I feel bad for animals when they die more than humans. [frick]ed up, but true
Bearjew - 4/11/2014, 8:23 PM
Dude don't scare me, I thought Viggo Mortenson or Ian McKellan had died you piece of shit
TheRationalNerd - 4/11/2014, 8:30 PM

Same here! Like when Sam died in I Am Legend or that scene from "The Fly 2" I cried mad crazy from those scenes man! I'm not afraid to admit it at all.
OcciferPing - 4/11/2014, 8:31 PM
Are you f****** kidding me? Over a horse? Who gives an f.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 4/11/2014, 8:33 PM
Don't remind me of Sam LOL
Swiftsword777 - 4/11/2014, 8:38 PM
Who gives a [frick] really . Kill your self for posting this worthless story
JerBear - 4/11/2014, 8:38 PM
Not just "a horse" but "the lord of ALL horses"
TheRationalNerd - 4/11/2014, 8:40 PM
revloveR - 4/11/2014, 8:43 PM
"glue"? that wasn't very nice.
BatmanHeisenberg - 4/11/2014, 8:44 PM
Yeah, same, BlackJack. Human deaths don't get me as much as when I hear an animal's death. I don't know why, but like this horse that never really effect me and my life other than being in the second best trilogy ever, hits me more than a human that had no effect on me or my life, other than being an actor in a film I like/love. I [frick]ing love animals.
BatmanHeisenberg - 4/11/2014, 8:44 PM
RIP Blanco.
