Christopher Lambert Shares His Thoughts On The HIGHLANDER Remake & Ryan Reynolds

Actor Christopher Lambert has been promoting his new movie "Ma Bonne Etoile" (My Lucky Star) and decided to discuss his past legacy and fame that he has achieved because of Highlander and Tarzan. Hit the jump to find out if he has any interest in making a cameo.

11:16 Lambert starts talking of his thoughts on the remake

Does it ever bother you that people always ask about The Highlander and Connor Macleod?

(laughs) No, it doesn't bother me at all! It's like if I was asking you the question and (brought up) Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford? First thing you'll think of is Mad Max, Dirty Harry and Indiana Jones! So, okay, now I think it's nice! I loved doing that movie. The director was great. The reason why I did it was that the script was opposite of what people thought the movie would be. And the movie was so loved because it was a romantic movie. It's not an action movie. There is a lot of action, but the romantic side of immortality was the reason. The theme (of the movie) was so (real), and so painful in some ways. This guy is living forever. And all his friends and the love-of-his-life are all dying. And yet he has to carry on living - and living with that pain. That was what I love about the movie.

So the hot rumour is that Ryan Reynolds going to be the new Connor Macleod. What are your thoughts on that?

First of all, I think he's a really good actor. On top of it, he's somebody sensitive. If I was the producer or the director, I would go as far as possible away from the original Highlander to try to create a new "original" Highlander. I am talking about the script. Because the combination of what Highlander was about, plus Queen's music, was unbelievable. So I don't think a remake would work … I think a good one would be Man On Fire, which was directed by Elie Chouraqui - a French director - and then re-made (in 2004) by Tony Scott. It wasn't a "remake" of the movie. It was a new Man On Fire. And that's exactly what I would do with Highlander. You cannot duplicate something, no matter how big it could be. You cannot duplicate The Killer from John Woo; you cannot duplicate Once Upon A Time In The West by Sergio Leone. You can re-do something, but don't try and copy.

Christopher Lambert is one of my favorite actors. I grew up watching the original Highlander and Greystoke:The Legend of Tarzan, hence my username. In this interview he shares his thoughts about the Highlander remake and Tarzan fans. He also talks about Ryan Reynolds as the new lead in the Highlander remake and if he would have interest in making a cameo in it.

Rumors of Ryan Reynolds being cast in the remake as the character Connor Mcleod but as of today nothing has been officially confirmed as of November 2012. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has also left the project due to creative issues.

Niklander - 12/22/2012, 6:30 AM
@Dynamo tell me about it I was suprised when I learned he was French and he is tapping Sophie Marceau Lmaber is a BOSS
Dev - 12/22/2012, 6:52 AM
OH crap! I forgot that Reynolds will be taking over for Lambert in this remake. Already another failed remake on the cards! -_-
reverendjonnynemo - 12/22/2012, 7:03 AM
I'm reserving judgement til i see something more on it. H1 is my alltime favorite movie, ans suffered with false hope from the ridiculous "the quickening" to what the hell ever the studio was thinking with gimp-guy in H5.

i only hope reynolds can bring dignity to connor like lambert did.
Niklander - 12/22/2012, 7:06 AM
@Dev7 Reynolds isn't officially Connor Mcleod
InfiniteMonkey - 12/22/2012, 7:41 AM
Damn, I hope Reynold's portrayal if true will be something that gets him back on the map of a vehicle to perpetuate.

He just needs a script and director that truly brings out the actor in him.

shadearts - 12/22/2012, 8:10 AM
I like Conner Mcleod Highlander and i might be the only one on hear that thinks so but to me Duncan Mcleod is the Highlander sorry guys Duncan was a better fighter he was cooler and had a better backstory not to mention Conner couldn't defeat him and gave his quicken to Duncan yall may start your hate
BlueMex - 12/22/2012, 8:24 AM
Have you guys notice how much.Thomas Jane looks like. ! Lol
stutx - 12/22/2012, 8:28 AM
dexter nailed it. prefer connon but duncan has WAY more story due the tv shows. agree with shadearts though duncan way better fighter
daveB - 12/22/2012, 8:37 AM
When I first saw Thomas Jane in deep blue sea I thought he was his son.
Seejay - 12/22/2012, 8:41 AM

Cannot imagine Reynolds with long hair.
Aeyan - 12/22/2012, 8:53 AM
Look, Ryan Reynolds SUCKS!!! PERIOD! Putting him in proximity to any the Highlander franchise would only perpetuate it's continued failure. The best thing that ever happened to the Highlander franchise, after Lambert hung it up, was Adrian Paul. Endgame should have been much better, on general principal, out of respect for AP. A remake/re-boot would be proper as long as you had the right director, producer, and the right leading man who has the talent, skill, and tact that would give the franchise the respect it deserves. I also agree with Lambert about the music. Highlander with out Queen is like... like...
XavierLehnsherr - 12/22/2012, 9:30 AM
How many times does Hollywood need to ruin their hero movies with Ryan Reynolds before they finally say "you know what, I think we've already lost too much money on this guy, let's stop doing what the Illuminati/Secret Society/etc tells us"?

Probably why all these 10's keep marrying him too.
DioFoRio - 12/22/2012, 9:51 AM
you know the problem with Ryan Reynolds isn't seems to be the directors and what they want from him. I like Reynolds. He was funny as shit in that flick with Bateman and he Played straight Laced and Serious well in Safe House. Had he played it a bit more serious in GL it may have saved it a bit...a bit. But I bet the Director and writers added the cheese for him. Question is , Who can play Menacing and badass Like Clancey Brown did? Dude rocked that shit. Punk Rock Head taker!!!
DioFoRio - 12/22/2012, 9:52 AM
Had Clancey's character not been killed It was said he was gonna cross the bridge and join up with the Misfits.."20 EYES IN MY HEAD!!"
yinyangpalms - 12/22/2012, 10:04 AM
I really hated the fact that Duncan MacCleod was pushed as the greatest Highlander above Connor Macleod in "Endgame".
Adrian Paul is not only an extreme asshole and known for it in the industry but his Highlander series sucked.

Ryan Reynold's must have a great agent because he keeps getting starring roles without any success. But he does not belong in action films. He should be doing "Turner And Hooch" or "When Harry Met Sally" type stuff. Or Reynolds could have a sitcom but hes a fish out of water in action films.
DioFoRio - 12/22/2012, 10:22 AM
@1RoninAmongBitches.......seems like a bitch got a hold of your account pickle-nuts....cause it says you reported Grif for a factual statement....seriously..."1RoninAmongBitches"? lol
DioFoRio - 12/22/2012, 10:23 AM
@yingyang...even in Safe House?
teagan73 - 12/22/2012, 10:24 AM
NOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Ryan Reynolds cannot play Connor MacCleoad!!!!! James McAvoy or Gerard Butler maybe...
DioFoRio - 12/22/2012, 10:26 AM
@teagan...perfect casting!!!! Butler all the way!
DioFoRio - 12/22/2012, 10:33 AM
More importantly who will take over for Connery?
Aeyan - 12/22/2012, 10:34 AM
@yingyangpalms: And what are your accusations about Adrian Paul based on? I've never heard anything about Adrian Paul being an "A-hole" ever before. Are you actually 'in the industry' to be able to hear this, or is this just your personal opinion?
Niklander - 12/22/2012, 10:36 AM
Allright people now who should direct the movie?!?!? Joe Wright is my pick[Hanna Atonment and Anna Karerina]
Happy11 - 12/22/2012, 10:37 AM
I loved that movie growing up so much so that I saw the sequel when it first came out on VHS and haven't watched it since. I would like an actor who isn't A list. Can you honestly see Reynolds doing a Scottish accent with long hair flowing no neither can I. Gerrard Butler wouldn't be a bad choice, tbh I don't know but what I do know is that Reynolds isn't Connor Macleod of the Clan Macleod who has lived for 400 years and is immortal in the end there can be only one, lol love that quote. Also Clancy Brown scared the shit out of me when I was 8
DioFoRio - 12/22/2012, 11:01 AM
@Happy Lambert didn't really do a scottish accent either. lol
darkness - 12/22/2012, 11:13 AM
tom jane is always my go to guy! should be the biggist actor in holywood. he was my first choice for mad max too.
DioFoRio - 12/22/2012, 11:33 AM
@Dexter....Or an Egyptian , Greek, Spaniard with a Scottish accent ...Accenttion!
CeltiC527 - 12/22/2012, 11:39 AM
@nachiwan Learn what? That the Green Lantern movie didn't have a very good script? Because if you're trying to blame the GL films failures on Reynolds, you must be really dumb. Do you think it would of made any more money or gotten better reviews if Cooper was in the role? Yeah, didn't think so.....
patriautism - 12/22/2012, 11:40 AM
Thomas Jane and Ryan Renyolds are both wrong for this, there is only one man for the reboot..

He can actually sound Scottish..
patriautism - 12/22/2012, 11:41 AM
And he also looks just like Lambert.
darkness - 12/22/2012, 11:50 AM
have u even seen tom jane? this guy looks like he was made from leftovers
SuperSpiderMan5778 - 12/22/2012, 1:20 PM
man i'd fawk the soy sauce out that asian chic oh yeah to all you RR haters fawk you. that is all.
MrSundayMovies - 12/22/2012, 1:23 PM
He's great, very cool interview.
Ceejay - 12/22/2012, 1:39 PM
There is only one Highlander movie, every thing after that is nonsensical franchise shite!
hatrick3 - 12/22/2012, 1:46 PM
Lambert is awesome personified! Not only did he make the best Tarzan movie ever, he was once married to Diane Ma Kent Lane. Game over. We have a winner.
AztecRainGod - 12/22/2012, 1:46 PM
Sorry, but the original movie was a good idea that turned out to be poorly implemented, campy nonsense with bad action sequences.
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 12/22/2012, 1:53 PM
If Ryan plays this serious it could be good. Sadly he will probably play this the same as he does most of his movies and it'll be cheesy with horrible one liners.:(
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 12/22/2012, 2:00 PM
Also this might work if they have Ryan play someone else and had this take place in the past, and have a cameo at the end with a cgi Lambert as Conner to tie them together. Sounds goofy but that way they leave the original alone.;)
