DIE HARD 2's Renny Harlin Signs Up To Direct HERCULES 3D

No, Brett Ratner hasn't been replaced! Instead, this is ANOTHER Hercules movie completely separate from the one which will star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and director Renny Harlin promises to deliver a far more serious take on the iconic mythic character.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Die Hard 2 and Exorcist: The Beginning director Renny Harlen has signed up to bring Millenium's Hercules 3D to the big screen. With a budget of $70 million, the studio are hoping to cast EIGHT leading roles within the next few weeks in order to start production this May in Bulgaria. They're hoping to have the film out by March 2014 in order to beat Paramount and MGM's rival project which director Brett Ratner and star Dwayne Johnson are teaming up on for an August 8th, 2014 release. With a script written by Sean Hood and Hanna Weg, Harlin told the site that his take will be a lot different to other versions. "It's not a comic book, cartoony fantasy thing. It's closer to Gladiator than flying horses. I think these are very different kinds of movies in their approach to this legendary character." As for what he makes of the other Hercules project in development, he said: "Obviously, Hercules has been portrayed in many different films, such as the Disney animated movie. I wish them luck. Ancient Greek mythology is an endless source of good stories ... Let's see both movies be successful."

Thank god! I did not want Brett Ratner to murder another film.

There's only one true Hercules, and he's Kevin Sorbo.

You're right. When I think Hercules I think KEVIN SORBO!

"This is the story of a time long ago. A time of myth and legend, when the ancient Gods were petty and cruel, and they plagued mankind with suffering. Only one man dared to challenge their power...Hercules. Hercules possessed a strength the world had never seen. A strength surpassed only by the power of his heart. He journeyed the Earth battling the minions of his wicked stepmother, Hera, the all-powerful Queen of the Gods. But wherever there was evil, wherever an innocent would suffer, there would be...HERCULES."

they've picked one of the worst directors to direct this upcoming 3D reboot!!!
Hellsing - 2/4/2013, 9:29 AM
Nothing can match the awesomeness that was Kevin Sorbo, I mean it was kinda cheesy and all but [frick]ing hell it was fun to watch.

Hellsing - 2/4/2013, 9:32 AM
the only redeeming thing about Ratners version is the Rock, the dude can be in the worst movie in the world but the dudes still one of the most electrifying individual on the planet.

OK, this is getting ridiculous. What, are you going to tell me that there will be two Snow White adaptations in the same year, next?...oh, wait.

One was cartoony, and the other one was more serious, too. I hope to God this won't be the new trend in Hollywood.
Hellsing - 2/4/2013, 9:41 AM
@Jolt sorry to bring you the bad news mate it is the new trend I mean we have 2 movies this year that involve the white house being taken over by terrorist, ones going to be cartoony, although bombastic seems more appropriate since that one involves Emmerich and the other seems by the first trailer anyway a serious take. So yeah man it looks like it is the new trend.

LOVED Die Hard II. Always thought it was the best of all the Die Hard films.

I think Marvel/Disney are trying to squash the Ratner Hercules movie so the Rock can be Drax in GotG. He's the only actor with all the tools to play the role.
AlexDeLarge87 - 2/4/2013, 10:33 AM
If Renny takes inspiration from Steve Reeves Hercules movies this could be pretty awesome.
Renny is not the best film maker in the world but hell he is better than Brett Ratner.

Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2, The Long Kiss Goodnight. Nuff said. :)
RexDartEskimoSpy - 2/4/2013, 11:47 AM
So, a C-list director (Ratner) is doing a Hercules movie, and now a B-list director (Harlin) is doing one, so we just need an A-list director (Ridley Scott?) and a D-lister (Uwe Boll, obviously) to make Hercules movies. And the Asylum will beat them all to the punch with Herakles.

Marvel manged to bring us a film that brought Thor to life while staying true to his Norse mythology. With that being said I hope they make this Hercules movie truely epic. I know Hollywood try's to make dark and gritty movies since that seems to be all the rage. If the film makers stay true to his mythology source material they can show Hercules go through his brutal trials and tribulations as a Demi-god trying to prove his valor to the gods. After those god aweful Titan films( the second film
Wraith was only a slight improvement) it should be a no brainer bringing this greek myth to life. Hercules is long over due for a feature film and I hope Renny Harlen doesn't fall into the corporate pittfalls of Hollywood and truely delivers the goods.

Looks to be like another Snow white battle
supermarioworldE - 2/5/2013, 7:54 AM
I really hope Harlin doesn't screw this up. I'm a fan of a lot of his movies, but the guy needs a serious comeback after all the crap he's been directing lately.
