Graphic Novel THE 6TH GUN Gets Pilot Order From NBC

NBC orders pilot based on Oni Press' The 6th Gun. Written by Cullen Bunn and illustrated by Brian Hurt, the graphic novel is a science-fiction western set during the Civil War era and pits a gunslinger against dark forces with an innocent girl's soul in the crosshairs.

The 6th Gun NBC
NBC has committed to a pilot for The Sixth Gun, from producer Carlton Cuse (Lost) and screenwriter Ryan Condal (Hercules: The Thracian Wars) who will jointly spearhead the project. Universal TV and Oni's production company Closed on Mondays Entertainment will share production responsibilities.

Condal, a newcomer that wrote the script for Bret Ratner's Hercules picture starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson will also shoulder writing duties on this project while Cuse will serve as executive producer and showrunner on the drama. Also serving as producers are Eric Gitter(Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Andy Borne. NBC has put forth pilot comments for nine other projects as well so the western will face a bit of competition for a full season pick-up. This pilot season features a few other comic book properties most notably S.H.I.E.L.D. for ABC and AMAZON for The CW. Hopefully all these projects can be picked up, unlike last year which saw Powers, AKA Jessica Jones, Wonder Woman and Punisher all filter out at various stages.

During the darkest days of the Civil War, wicked cutthroats came into possession of six pistols of otherworldly power. In time, the Sixth Gun, the most dangerous of the weapons, vanished. When the gun surfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, dark forces reawaken. Vile men thought long dead set their sights on retrieving the gun and killing the girl. Only Drake Sinclair, a gunfighter with a shadowy past, stands in their way.

Graphic novels are the up and up eh? How about limiting the shows to the good ones...

Yeah. Meh. I'd like to see a network grow some balls and go with a full-on, serious Batman, Spider-Man, or other A-Lister show like that. And no beating around the bush. Lois and Clark lasted a long time, and although it was cheesy, it had legs amongst general audiences. So did Smallville, for that matter, even though it took them ten years to show him in costume.

I say go all out with a big, recognizable project.

If they are gunna ANY sci-fi western-esq show to T.V., how about just go that extra mile and finally make the deals needed to get Firefly back? JUST SAYIN' I'd MUCH rather see that on T.V. again then anything else that's being brought up

I love Bunn's Sixth Gun and hope the pilot does well. In the right hands this may have the potential to be the next Walking Dead and it seems to be in good hands with writers and producers of good pedigree. Now all that's left is to see who will be cast to play the two main characters of the comic series.

I've always wanted to read the series.

And still nobody tries to make Y: The Last Man??? It couldn't cost that much to make compared to a Civil War era graphic novel (wardrobe should be a pretty penny) come on network suits get your shit together!!!

^^^ They're making a movie out of Y:The Last Man.

Is this still being published as a regualr monthly comic book?
rogmel - 1/23/2013, 6:31 AM
It's a comic, not a graphic novel. Still published monthly (mostly).

Is it worth picking up?
